No, your conjecture is incorrect. Dropping just TWO weights as they did, was the normal procedure when approaching the wreck (they have done this on every dive). If something was wrong, they would have dropped ALL their weights. Sorry, but this was a perfectly normal dive up to the moment of implosion.
Both ends of the submersible generally were intact. The middle section was the weakest part of the vessel which was devastated. The other end of the vessel, which was unseen in this vid, was basically a semi-sphere would have simply popped off like a cork.

Any ceramic material is not as stable as it may seem. One moment it's intact, then it's dust. You can even break glass with a newspaper if you hit it one too many times.
That sub should have been fitted with a black box like they use on commercial airplanes for accident investigations. It makes life so much easier to find out what happened and why.

That is again typical american inconsistency of data measurement: Depth in Meters, pressure in PSI ... No wonder mistakes pop up everywhere
