Just came across this clip chaps! Some nostalgia and a little reminiscing for me! I was a young plant foreman from 1974 to '76 running a ready mix concrete plant for RMC just prior to it closing! Known as the Woodside depot in the middle of the old Handley's brickworks the plant was dwarfed by the remnants of the sheds and kilns set on a considerable tranche of land! The lake/pond or pit as it was known all the time the plant was operational was used as a dumping ground swill out point that the ready mix drivers would spin out their drums often with half loads of concrete that had only there to go on returning from their delivery address. It was not not unusual for unwanted machinery and alike to be dumped only to be covered with concrete and waste and diesel washdowns! The plant was home to some 7 mixer trucks and what with 3 other plants in the Croydon area that would frequent that pond,And no doubt it would be hard to figure the unbelievable volume of unwanted crap that got glued to the bottom! All the above sounds wrong but there was very little environmental thought or control back then. "Sad to say"

Fished here since I was a kid way before the new housing estate was there. Remember there used to be 4/5 lakes over there at one point. I’ve seen Motobikes and cars go in. Went over there about a year ago and pulled out 18lbs carp. There was more in there but polish and romainians stated bagging them to eat.

I have fished this place on and off for 35 years and this was potentially the most exciting thing and then the most disappointing thing I have ever seen on the Internet !

Do you still fish it, Chris ? (Feb 2022) As it is local, I was hoping to take my grandkids there for some silver fish.

I think the lake was cleaned when the estate was built. I know for a fact there were a few motorbikes & at least one car dumped in there in the late 70's. Such a shame all the fish have gone now.

Have all the fish gone ? I saw a clip from 2016 showing a 22lb carp. As it is local, I was hoping to take my grandkids there for some silver fish.

@@0779mike loads of good sized fish in there now, the carp have been breeding, there are big perch and decent sized roach. i lost a huge carp last October and a couple next to us had a massive carp out. not sure what bait they were using. I was on maggot and worm.
