I Always Cry When I Hear The Windows 7 sound because I used to have a Dell computer that ran one Windows 7 and it made that exact same sound. That, right there, is the sound of my childhood.
Windows XP makes me remember a lot of parts of my childhood, because my first computer was ran by Windows XP, and I have the honour to still have a computer with Windows XP. Also, I used Windows 7 and Vista. When using them, I got surprised, because there was not a single sound left from Windows XP. After some time, I started getting used to Windows 7. A little later, Windows 10 come out (I didn't use Windows 8, by the way). I didn't use it by first, but recently I started using it, in the same computer I used Windows 7, modified it and installed Windows 10. I got pissed off because Windows 10 was too silent, it hadn't enough sound, not even mini games. The only good thing of it is its improvement.
I remember back in elementary school (yours truely here born in 1995) a majority of our computers ran on Windows 2000 and XP. Ah, I'll never forget using those operating systems just to play with KidPix on a rainy day when we couldn't go outside for recess or for perfecting our keyboard knowledge with Type To Learn. I'll remember that shit for the rest of my life
Earl Vińbiłco Putinov I'm fairly sure a daycare I used to go to at a pretty young age had 2 computers running XP, then an upgrade to Vista. I remember playing Pinball on it because there just wasn't a lot else to do.
InkDreamerFandoms, actually, I've recently found out that my first computer used Windows ME, but I didn't use it for anything but for little children games. It was a computer with the shape of a box. Then, they bought an HP PC for the house, but especially for my brothers and I, because my father had his own computer and my mother didn't know how to use them. Casually, when I used Windows XP, I already knew how to use internet explorer, how to connect my computer to a Wi-Fi connection in case it was necessary, I played online games, and I knew how to use Messenger and how to use the file manager, but no one ever taught me how to use them, I just knew it at the age of 5 years. I also knew how to recognise dangerous websites, so I never fell for Bonzi Buddy. Now, I remember playing Pinball about last Sunday, because I got a Windows XP Virtual Machine, the Windows XP computer that is in my house is not really mine, and it doesn't sound anymore. It works good, but I can't get connected to internet when using it. I also recently realised that Windows 7 is still better than Windows 10.

Ah, what a memory. Back then when I was very young, our home computer was 98 and XP. Even after all those years, I still can heard Start up sounds of 98.
The Longhorn sounds are fake. They used A: XP sounds B: A mix between XP and Vista RTM, with the exception that the startup and shutdown weren't added yet, so instead they used the logon/logoff C: Vista RTM, with the logon/logoff as startup/shutdown D: Vista RTM.
The Windows Me startup and shutdown sounds are actually from Windows 2000 beta 3 builds 1983-2000.3. Those sounds were only used in those builds and never again. Windows ME used the normal Windows 2000 sounds and not the W2000 Beta 3 sounds.

All they had to do to release Longhorn before they restarted was to just stop adding code too quickly, test it more, fix the unsecure code and tell people it will be released in a later time period.
Ah, windows 7. I used to have a computer with that Windows OS. But sadly, it got slower and slower until it could do basically nothing, and I was stuck with no computer.
