  • The unending bumper crop of winter snow is now bumping up against safety and the snowpack could pack a punch for spring flooding. We haven't seen his kind of snow since Nixon was in the White House.

the real problem with reservoirs is when they are full, the lake temperature stays stable compared to open exposed rock, and tree cover also keeps temps regulated, moisture stable. When in a drought like we just are getting out of fro 3 years, the lakes were so low that the bottom was exposed to sun and THAT really changed temps fast, also created a wide area around the lakes that was extra dry and hot from ambient temperature. It also got cold faster, creating violent storms, and deflecting all moisture from ever staking around. We need to focus on our forests and lakes, and make sure to keep them healthy as best as we can!

This is mother nature healing that region. Although it rarely snows in So. Cal., there has been so much drought and wildfires that snow is a great remedy.
Snow saturates into the ground and keeps it moist a lot longer than a rainstorm does.
While this record snow is a real problem for people right now, in the big picture, it will alleviate drought conditions in the coming months.
Mother nature takes care of itself.

ROFLMAO! Yepper, a real winner here. The hotter it gets, the more it snows, it says. LOL. Thats why you find ALL the best ski resorts in Brazil, Central America, huh . Your ignorance is surpassed only by your isolation in your delusions.
Its not getting warmer. Its getting colder and colder. For four thousand years its been getting ever more cold. During this time every 1,100 years there has been a very brief warming spike, each colder than the last and each ending in a rapid drop in temperature to the next period even colder than the last. During the Holocene Optimum came the Minoan Warming. It lasted a few hundred years. When it cooled, it became even cooler than before. About 1,200 years of cooling later came the Roman Warming. A brief spike in temperature which failed to reach the highs previously followed by a rapid drop in temperature to levels even colder than before. About 1,100 years of cooling later came the Medieval Warming. A brief pause in the fall, the temperatures rose once more, but like before failed to reach the highs of the previous warming. Then came the plunge into the Little Ice Age, a period much more cold than before. After about 1,000 years of Little Ice Age came the Modern Warming. Like before the temperatures but failed to meet the highs of the previous warming. Draw a line down those very brief highs and extend it to today there we are. EXACTLY where expected and when expected. The temperatures haven't gone up in decades. We met the peak and today begin the ride down the falling side of the thousand year warming cycle. THAT is why we are digging up farms, cattle ranches, fruit orchards, gardens and whole villages frozen solid in Greenland Permafrost. PERMAFROST! Farms, orchards, fruits cannot live, cannot exist on land which never thaws, ice that never melts. Because its colder than merely a thousand years ago and its begun to get even colder once again. For the fifth year in a row its been snowing in the Sahara. Never ever before. The only thing more extreme is your ignorance. Crack a book once in a while. Learn something, would you? Look up some temperature charts that go back ten millennia. Get some perspective... and stop spewing nonsensical bull crap. Dont be such an ignorant puppet. We have entered the fall into the next Grand Solar Minimum. The Eddie Minimum is expected to accelerate the coming cooling. As this planet cools the growing seasons become shorter. As this happens harvests are reduced. Global crop failure is forecast before 2030. In the end your going to be your own worst victim. Pull you head out of the smothering stench you buried it in.

Lake Powell and Lake Mead are fed by the Colorado River Basin. They have very high snowpack, too. They are slightly above 2019's Snow Water Equivalent with a few more storms to come. Because their levels are so low, Lake Powell could rise 70 feet this year. (Reservoirs are shaped like funnels so the first 50 feet take less water than the next 50 feet) someone said that he is thinking it will rise 100 feet. But more likely 45 to 70 feet depending on evaporation and soil moisture. Lake Mead is in a different position. They aren't allowing Lake Mead to fill until after the other reservoirs above it are full and until Lake Powell has enough water to have power at the dam. So it will likely not raise until after Lake Powell releases water to Lake Mead.

A great record setting winter in the western U.S. for sure, raising water storage in most lakes and providing huge amounts of snow for runoff after it melts. But two or three years like this are needed so the ponding basins in the valleys can resupply the ground water which has been being used incessantly during the drought. Get the ground water replenished, with full reservoirs and high snow packs and the west will be back to operating condition. This year is a great start but there is a long way to go.

    • @truthwarrior2149

I want to know the measure for that. Replenishing the aquifers is consistently identified as the true measure of whether the drought has ended and I can't for the life of me find a measurement for that. Are the aquifers 20%. 50%? How moist is the soil? We all know the snowpack we all know the reservoir levels but these alarmist keep telling us about the aquifers that they tell us nothing about. Stop treating us like children and show us the numbers in an understandable fashion. Everything I find on the internet is incomprehensible.

Actually, you're correct. Warmer temps cause more ocean evaporation because warm air holds more moisture and when it hits higher elevations, it gets colder and falls as snow or rain. Simple. It's called the water cycle.

@@V8_screw_electric_cars OMG, you can't be serious! You can't keep adding a gas to the system that will eventually overtake the Earth's ability to stay at that temperature. Sure local patterns might be OK, but globally they are always going to go up. It doesn't matter what we do, as long as we pull fossil fuels from the ground, we will be adding to the global temperature. Until we find an energy source that meets all our needs without burning something, this problem will only get worse. You can't change the laws of physics, no matter how much politicians, laypeople or the delusional say otherwise. Pull fuel from the ground and burn it ===> Increased global temperatures. It's quite simple math.
