I WORKED WITH MICHAEL SELDEN AT KNUS IN DALLAS 1978-1979. I WAS SAD TO HEAR HE PASSED AWAY A NUMBER OF YEARS AGO.

I've returned several times to enjoy this, Mike Selden was my very favorite D.J. while we had those wonderful days of AM radio. I started listening to him when he was on KXOL, and gladly followed him to KLIF before I had to move away too far to hear DFW stations. The day Elvis died, I was listening to him, and when he said please stop calling, his voice was so sad, it broke me up so much.

I'm a little surprised that KLIF still played 45's at that time. Many stations had started putting all the music on carts. Thanks for sharing this wonderful blast from the past.

Many regional or larger stations played Currents and Re-Currents on carts. "Gold" or "Oldies" hits, were pulled and played on 45's and sometimes LP, but mostly 45's. The Top rated Top-40 & MOR stations I grew up listening to did it that way in the early 1970's.

Judging with the way he threw a cart across the room those studio machines and cartridges weren't too reliable at that station...lol

In the early 90's I left the Philadelphia area to go to college in Dallas and learned about KLIF through personal research on "Boss radio". I walked past the old station trying to imagine what it was like and the great times they had like others during that time besides "my" WFIL. Oh man...that shot of him in the Triangle Point Building with those cars passing by @1:46...I'm very grateful for this snippet to see "life" happening. But, knowing the "shell" it had later become and how most peeps born from 1980 onwards don't have a clue what took place there...sad man, just sad. Oh yes, I forgot to mention, this guy is top notch smooth!👍

Back then, you could call in and actually talk to the DJs and request a song. I’d walk in my apartment, turn on the radio, and not turn it off until I walked out the next morning. I asked Mike Selden why he was on both KLIF and KNUS, and he said KLIF paid more, but he could be more creative and free on KNUS. Ken Dowe, Cousin Lenny, Dick Heatherton, Jim Hilty (Mother)…all of them were such a part of my life.

One of the great 1970's Presenters/DJ's! A golden voice plus educated awareness. The golden wheatfields of Alberta Canada. Imagine any US Jock having this awareness today?

This was Dallas AM radio back then. Latter-day jocks sound like they're either trying to be Ron (Ralph) Chapman (RIP), or are jacked on amphetamines.
