The DM model was specifically designed with an offset cab. It's essentially an R model set up for dump truck and mixer configurations. The offset cab provides better visibility on streets and in tight places.
At one time in the 60's they Mack also made the U model,, same cab but was made in a tractor, or straight job for freight, oil trucks, a lot of freight companies used them. The R model was made at the same time. U model was eventually phased out . My dad had them at Mobil Oil for awhile.
Them mack DMs are some TOUGH trucks
Ufff!!!! Great to see your creation I transformed that truck from a roll off to a dump love the final result I miss that truck

Crazy question, why's the cab offset? Looks so freakin weird & lop-sided, BUT all n all it's a GRRRREAT dump truck!!!!

Shortened wheelbase to allow for easier turns on tight roads. The result was a cramped drivers compartment. The offset cab corrected the problem.
I Always ask the same question. Thanks
