"It's really hard to be violent when you're overwhelmed by beauty." -Erwin Raphael McManus. How beautiful!

I love Erwin's comment about ignorance is the enemy of beauty. As an interior designer this comes up a lot in my business. Working with clients who have different ideas of beauty opens me up to new esthetic experiences. Also, what comes up for me, off topic, ignorance is the enemy of embracing different cultures and lifestyles.

Minimalist tip: if you love the minimalist aesthetic but are struggling to "decorate" in that style, try looking at your existing decorative pieces and keeping only the ones that you personally feel are beautiful. I stumbled into the aesthetic a couple weeks ago when I finally decided to be honest with myself about each individual piece of art I own.

That's so true. I recently did that myself.

Easily the most thought-provoking and insightful episode I've watched. Chockfull of wisdom nuggets that would otherwise just sound social-media-pretty if it weren't for Erwin's genuine-ness. When he said ignorance is the enemy of beauty, it reminded me of people hating others because the underlying reason is being afraid of not knowing, not understanding who they are.

Appreciating beauty is sometimes immediate and sometimes needs time for us to be ready and open to appreciate it.

As someone that struggled for years with a severe shopping addiction, I don't know what made me turn the corner, ( I know why I struggled) I was trying to heal from a dv marriage and two of three kids with bipolar and endless hospitalizations, but it was something. We've now given away or sold (mostly to charity) probably over 10, 000 worth of clothing , shoes , boots, ect , ect ..I'm not exactly a minimalist but I have so fewer things that it doesn't take me hours to clean our home anymore. It's freeing and my mind is clearer. I kept only the the things that meant the most to me. My grandparents, my aunt and uncle who've all passed away some years ago. MY COUSIN keeps sending my mom boxes of things and my mom doesn't even remember her family members having these ' things " .I recovered because I retrained my brain in a whole new way of thinking .Also at age 54 I'm not chasing clutter .I want to see the beauty if life and enjoy my artistic side , photography , making my own decorations, scrao booking ect .....!! The hardest thing for me to get rid of is two dollar store figurines .So strange.

Hygge is beauty to me because it evokes a “cozy” beauty. Pillows and blankets are essential because I live in the North.

“Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder” … what is beautiful to one may not be beautiful to another person … and society and culture plays a large role in identifying something as “beautiful.”

Just when I was trying to decide whether I could part with my authentic lava lamps, I hear beauty is wonderment. Now I’m confused. 😄 I guess I’ll have to compare them the the fiber optic art items. 😊
