5 years ago but it helped me in knowing how to feed my babies because even though I go outside to feed them, the flies jump around and escapes 😩 thank you thank youuuu!! :)
Thank you! New jumping spood owner and I JUST found the tiniest sling on my laptop and hoping to keep him too. Been driving all over town trying to find fruit flies for him with no luck. My spood is eating mini mealworms but this tiny sling I found needs fruit flies, so I ordered some online.
Thanks for the vid! My wild caught female gave me a gift of 9 baby jumpers before she unfortunately passed away. Just got a shipment of fruit flies in, and I found this very helpful. Just got them in the fridge now. Thank you! 🖤
The Stork just brought 23 little slings from a purchased Phidippus I suspect was wild caught. It could be one of two suspects: Phidippus regius or P. johnsoni
Your details were exactly what I needed to feed my tiny lions. Or Phiddipus regius slings. I only have two and still the things you shared have moved me into the level of “Wow, I can do this” Thanks Man
It was a help thank you. I have my first jumper coming in a few days and a container of fruit flies. Kind of hope my jumper is not real small kind of looks like a pain in the ass dealing with those fruit flies.
Thanks for making this. My first jumper is coming in the mail this week and even though I have everything i need, I was a bit nervous. This helped a lot 😊
Great video, separating the flies into a tiny container first was a clever step. If you spray the water on the lid then you dont risk spraying the babies
Locked on like a scud missile 😂 Sooo.... Are you saying he probably will miss the target? 🤣🤣 Nice job 👍👍 it's hard to find a feeding for tiny babies and been baffled by using fruit flies without them getting away. Most talk about it but don't show it... So this was great to see, thanks
Great video bud. I don't use any substrate for my little female jumper. Just a water dish. She's has made 4 sacs lol now all of them are running lose in my room. Keep up the awesome work bud.
Yea they don't need substrate. They live off the ground anyway. I have jumpers running around my house too I'm sure. Probably sub-adults from the first sac! 😂
No. Eventually they will start to hunt one another if you keep them together. They are solitary once they get to a certain size until they go in search of a mate.
I'd also like to know how often do they need to eat ? And if you only want one breeding pair of spiders ,how many fruit flies do I need to have before their arrival ,and how long does it take to breed these flies
I found a jumper sling on my window and decided to raise it. I’m worried it isn’t actually eating the flies I’m giving it. I find carcasses, but the sling’s abdomen doesn’t seem to be expanding. Perhaps the flies are dying on their own, or the sling is just killing and tossing them? It’s only about the size of the flies, but I’m wondering if I should offer a different type of food. I’ve only had him a week, but would love to see this little guy grow into a healthy adult.
Wild caught spiders, even slings can stress out in their new enclosure. I have received 2 phidippus regius slings that i bought captive bred yesterday. You will know when the fruit fly is eaten because 1. Abdomen is bigger. 2. Fruit fly is shriveled up from the spider turning it into a smoothie and sucking it out . Also, some wild caught spiders, even jumping spiders, don’t do well in captivity. Release him into the wild because hes so stressed out that hes not eating :/ If you want an amazing jumper spider pet, get them captive bred. They’re much less stressed out and used to being in enclosures their whole life.
my question is I have I believe a spider🕷 eggsack on a walmart guava fruit 🤔 how could I let them hatch in a safe container for them I don't know if it's real yet I am curious 🤔 I bought the fruit a week ago the white item was not there because I like the smell of the fruit I am picking and washing the seeds not to grow a tree🌴 just green🌱🪴🦤 for the fun of it thank you have a great day take care ya'll 👵🐟♎⚖🕊 sorry I like emogis
I just found a spider not sure if is a jumper but I found a jumper 2 weeks ago. Now this one is way smaller that the ones on the video what should I do .
I actually just found a baby jumping spider, I think it's a zebra one but it's hard to tell cuz I think it's a newborn. I also read some where that you couldn't put them in the same place or they'll start fighting is that true?
@@torpedoesntarantulas5758 and also if you don't mind I have one more question; my baby zebra jumping spider was very active in my jar and then I moved and adjusted his habitat a bit and now I can't find nor see him in the jar, I'm scared I might have killed him 😅. Is that normal for baby spiders or....?
They are tiny and hard to spot sometimes. He may have found a spot to hang out. That's why I put them in a cup without anything in it. They don't need plants and cork bark and all that stuff. That's more for the visual appeal of the keeper
@@torpedoesntarantulas5758 thanks for helping! Also update; we searched the WHOLE jar and found my spider not in there. It escaped when I was moving its habitat. I feel so bad...
We got some jumping spiders that came in enclosures. Do you move them into the solo cups for feeding? Or are these where you keep them until they are bigger?
What do youb feed the baby jumpers that are just a few weeks old? I've had 3 wild caught jumpers 2 Platycryptus undatus and a Phidippus audax and all 3 had babies! LOL Now I'm trying to find out how to keep the babies alive until they are big enough to eat fruit flies.
I just got one baby jumping spider it’s very small I don’t think it’s even gone through it’s first molt. I’ve tried to feed it fruit flies for two days and it doesn’t seem interested at all. I’m wondering if I have to wait for it to have its first molt? I’m worried that it won’t eat and it could die. Is there anything else I could give it besides water, or should I leave it alone and wait?
There are several sites where you can get them. Just Google fruits flies for sale. They will last a couple of months. But if you buy fruit fly food you can keep them going longer by making new cultures. Just put some food in a new container and add some flies. In a couple weeks you have a bunch more flies
I thing I've learned, through error, is that if you kill some fruit flies in the freezer get your colony ready to dispense, pull the container out of the freezer, dump it, and if you're fast you can dump some more in and close it up and the air will still be cold enough they'll slow down immediately and you won't have to put it back in the fridge
so far my spider hasn’t eten im rlly scared cos shes getting skinny and she wont eat mealworms or the flies idk what im doing wrong and i dont want my spider to die
As far as I know, people have bred a breed of wingless fruit flies that is sold online to spider keepers. Though I don't have experience with buying them so can't say more than that.
You just have to know how to mist. Very fine mist so the drops aren't too big. Moist paper towels and sponges and such are a no no. They harbor bacteria

Hi thanks for the great explanation i just got my first jumping spider yesterday and he's started building his little house. 😄
Glad I could help
I have them in I love your video. I learned something about baby spiders.
wow...this must have been the 732th video i have seen on feeding jumping spider (I'm a new dad) and this tops them all!!!! great video bud!!
I watched a ton of youtubers on this and they were all completely useless compared to your videos! Thanks a ton for this
Thank you for the information. I getting a baby jumping spider Tuesday.
So tiny. They're adorable. Must take FOREVER to care for a single clutch, much less multiples!
Awesome for showing me how to make it easier to feed the babies
If I helped one person avoid some of the mistakes I made then the video was worth it
"Hopefully there will be somone out there that cares for baby spiders"
Me! I'm carzy enough to do that!!!

Can they live communal for there whole life
No. Eventually they will start to hunt one another if you keep them together. They are solitary once they get to a certain size until they go in search of a mate.
Thanks for the video! Just got a Phidippus regius Bahamas baby so this was really helpful :)

This is great. My family is just getting into jumping spiders and we had a very messy disaster with the first fruit fly feeding lol
The starving female jumper I caught off my bedroom wall and put inside a terrarium was pregnant. She made over 40 babies and I collected 25 of them.
Where can I buy the clear plastic enclosures that are housing your jumpers?
Thank you!!! This helped out a lot.
Glad I could help!
Thanks!
Aww they are so cute

How would you u feed a grown up one?
Just drop bigger food in its enclosure. They'll take care of the rest. Just make sure the prey is not larger than the spider's body
Are you talking at the times that you’re able to witness the takedowns? Maybe the vibrations from your voice can affect their hunting behavior.
What did you use to put the whole in the deli cup?
I use a needle and put a bunch of holes in it
Can you let's say 5 or 6 flies in with one spider and they can feed on them for awhile ..several days ?
so far my spider hasn’t eten
im rlly scared cos shes getting skinny and she wont eat mealworms or the flies

Hell yeah baby... That is what I think it's kinda AWESOME about spiders casue they will FUCKING get there prey regardless how big they are
The only thing I would recommend is to use a damp paper towel to water them so they don't drown in water droplets.
You just have to know how to mist. Very fine mist so the drops aren't too big. Moist paper towels and sponges and such are a no no. They harbor bacteria
I wish I could like 100 times.
The mist needs to be even finer than that or you can drown the babies extremely easily 😞
