I was nearly 50 when I started. After learning the basic chords from a book, I went to a tutor. The first thing he taught me was barre chords. I'd been playing for about 3 weeks, and I thought playing them was impossible. I had blisters from the open chords, and the pain in my first finger from the barre chords was pretty bad. No-one told me that learning guitar was a form of self-inflicted torture...

I am so glad I read this comment! I am 57 and just started learning 3 weeks ago. Barre chords definitely seem impossible to me. I decided yesterday to start taking lessons to prevent practicing mistakes. I have my first lesson today.

glad I found this video to go with your 10 day course. I got a proper 3/4 size acoustic guitar in a charity shop recently for £15. my fiancé helped me fix it up and starting tomorrow I'm going to be starting your 10 day guitar course as your 10 day ukulele course helped me learn to play in 2020 so I know your one of the best people to teach me.

Great beginner tips Andy. If anyone sees this one of the easiest songs to play is Dead Flowers by the Rolling Stones. 3 chords D, A, G and ifi you can play an F chord another one is Free Falling by Tom Petty F, C, Am, G

Great tips Andy. They would have been ideal for me in my first year to have a meaningful focus to make more music. Which is what it is all about. My number 6 has been to play with another musician. In my case a drummer. Cheers always great videos

The Angles has good rock tunes with barre chords. Very few guitar lessons on the Angles music. (Australian rock band)

I wish I new about getting a guitar set up and string height. It would have saved me years and I would have kept my first guitar.bought for me as a present by my better half. This is never stressed enough and most off the shelf guitars come with a ridiculously high action.

Wow Andy, those "cheats" are going to be a game changer for me. I only started learning guitar in January this year and although I'm doing reasonably well, because of my age(70) and it's associated joint issues, I am finding barre chords exceptionally difficult. I use the third F chord fingering you demonstrated quite successfully, but I find B to be almost impossible using the fingering I was shown in Yousician(I bought a one year subscription to it). I will be having a look at your courses and will, almost certainly, buy one quite soon. Which one would you recommend for an old fogey like me?

    Awesome video!!
I am 40 and just recently bought myself a acoustic guitar to learn & play. But i am really struggling to get my fingers moving to form the chords . Been practicing each day for anything between 5 mins to 30 mins.
Is this normal or are my fingers just too old to learn guitar 🎸?

Brilliant. I have been trying to play Brian May's accompaniment to "I who have nothing" and struggling to get the G to F (F sus2) and muting the top E string is a game changer!
