What do YOU wish you'd learned in your first year of playing guitar? Let me know here!

I was nearly 50 when I started. After learning the basic chords from a book, I went to a tutor. The first thing he taught me was barre chords. I'd been playing for about 3 weeks, and I thought playing them was impossible. I had blisters from the open chords, and the pain in my first finger from the barre chords was pretty bad. No-one told me that learning guitar was a form of self-inflicted torture...
I am so glad I read this comment! I am 57 and just started learning 3 weeks ago. Barre chords definitely seem impossible to me. I decided yesterday to start taking lessons to prevent practicing mistakes. I have my first lesson today.
45 years ago, when I was 13, I wish I had RUclips and a tuner. 😆
yes !!🤩🥲u took the words right from my head lol
glad I found this video to go with your 10 day course. I got a proper 3/4 size acoustic guitar in a charity shop recently for £15. my fiancé helped me fix it up and starting tomorrow I'm going to be starting your 10 day guitar course as your 10 day ukulele course helped me learn to play in 2020 so I know your one of the best people to teach me.
Andy : places capo at 7th freet and do a d maj shape
My Mind : here comes the Sun
I wishi had known about that mini barre that is a finger relief ...thank you so much sincerely for all your you tube videos Andy! I believe you play more beautifully than I've ever heard anyone ...and then the ability to teach and play and still make it interesting , challenging and learnable. So ,yes , I do adore you and hope to be half of the guitarist that you are !
Great video Andy, I will be checking these out 🙂 excellent work my friend 🤘🙂👍
Great beginner tips Andy. If anyone sees this one of the easiest songs to play is Dead Flowers by the Rolling Stones. 3 chords D, A, G and ifi you can play an F chord another one is Free Falling by Tom Petty F, C, Am, G
One other thing, Andy, best guitar instruction by far. Thanks a million.
Thank you very much Andy for this very good lesson. Cheers from Indonesia.
All good advice. Cheers Andy
Useful stuff!
hands down best guitar channel out there!
Thanks! You give good advice. :)
Great tips Andy. They would have been ideal for me in my first year to have a meaningful focus to make more music. Which is what it is all about. My number 6 has been to play with another musician. In my case a drummer. Cheers always great videos
Very informative 👏 👌
The Angles has good rock tunes with barre chords. Very few guitar lessons on the Angles music. (Australian rock band)
I wish I new about getting a guitar set up and string height. It would have saved me years and I would have kept my first guitar.bought for me as a present by my better half. This is never stressed enough and most off the shelf guitars come with a ridiculously high action.
Wow Andy, those "cheats" are going to be a game changer for me. I only started learning guitar in January this year and although I'm doing reasonably well, because of my age(70) and it's associated joint issues, I am finding barre chords exceptionally difficult. I use the third F chord fingering you demonstrated quite successfully, but I find B to be almost impossible using the fingering I was shown in Yousician(I bought a one year subscription to it). I will be having a look at your courses and will, almost certainly, buy one quite soon. Which one would you recommend for an old fogey like me?
School by Nirvan should be a must learn because how easy it is
Can you make a tutorial for the solo can not figure it out my myself
Very nice 👍
Thanks!
Good video Andy.
Thanks Paul!
Loving the video Andy really helpful 👍
Quick question what level is Hendrix’s and mayer’s songs?
Early intermediate to as advanced as it gets, but I've done plenty of songs by both artists on my youtube if you fancy giving them a go!
Cheers already checked out purple haze and can competently play it 👍
Hi, can you please teach how to play Phil Collins - You'll be in my heart ❤️
Almost 1 year down the line, I check 4 boxes, never went through the music theory one... Next step it will be. Thanks
Awesome video!!
I am 40 and just recently bought myself a acoustic guitar to learn & play. But i am really struggling to get my fingers moving to form the chords . Been practicing each day for anything between 5 mins to 30 mins.
Is this normal or are my fingers just too old to learn guitar 🎸?
Are you practicing specific changes to help play a song? Or just random chords?
Never to old! 🎸🎼🎶🎵🎶
I’ve hit a complete chord switching roadblock
Theory? I just want to rock! 😲
Hey, Andy--what's your favorite capo?
Hii
Jesus Andy , I am ashamed to admit I've been mucking around for ages and never knew some of these tips. 😔
Andy, if in the first six months I learned to play 30 songs by heart, do I have a little talent?
I played songs from my imagination and found out they been played by very famous bands and singers .playing them without knowing chord's names.
Brilliant. I have been trying to play Brian May's accompaniment to "I who have nothing" and struggling to get the G to F (F sus2) and muting the top E string is a game changer!
