Those westerner guys in the past decades who flocked Asia only to hook up and get them impregnated then leave them didn't help either.
      Here in this "particular" Asian country, Asian-Americans who grew up in the states and went there to visit their families or whatever, are often described as "too liberated", and often frowned upon for their "very American behavior" and ill-mannered way of speaking to elders and stuff like that. .

And the stereotypes go both ways, their ideas of what an American is, is the same as an American who travels and wants to date because of K-dramas. Korea is still very much an homogeneous country, so most of their ideas on foreigners in general comes from media.

      @mchjsosde 3 года назад +29

      I actually saw a video of a black girl who was mistaken for a prostitute in one of her many trips to Korea. For some Korean guys, that may be partly where the misconception is coming from. Many Korean guys go to brothels during their mandatory army time and it is quite common for human traffickers to trap women into prostitution in foreign countries. The way black women are treated in porn or popular media (not too different tbh) wouldn't help either.

As if Beyonce is the only Black woman they ever seen. It's not only him too literally a whole bunch of them; it's a chain reaction. The other thing they could like relate or piggyback off is just what they see on TV. I have a shape as well and by shape I mean I have a body that is not the average Korean size so there's many times where they will always keep comparing me to Kim Kardashian and when I tell them that her body is fake and she's not Black it's a shocker to them for some reason. I took a language course at Seoul National University and I know how their teachers categorize students from western countries and underdeveloped countries. I was so disheartened that I left the course in the middle. Although, I was so hurt but I have a message for all people around the world who have or still are facing discrimination, looked down at just for being born in an underdeveloped country. If anyone thinks they are superior, this thing only exists in a box which is their mind. It has no reality outside. If someone discriminates or uses hateful words, it shows their own low shallow self. Keep in mind no matter how hard the wind blows, mountains are never moved by it. Be happy and strong for who you are, not because what they think you are.

      Most Korean women are not rude at all, they don't hide their true intention to just have some fun time. In the past days Korean women couldn't have chance to take higher education like going university and learn language, that luxury was only for men. But now most girls go to university and they are well educated and have manner. Also they are getting to make their careers, women are more independent in the financial way, still get paid 2 of 3 comparing with male workers but they're trying. In opposite, many men are likely to get more assertive in the way they make relationship with women and men both. As many men still expect their partners being submissive, and have control on their relationship with their dudes too, they often bluff about numbers of women they slept with. I'm talking in general, not everyone is like this.

They ask really inappropriate questions. They will say things that they think is okay, but it's not okay. They get all of their info from movies and tv and music videos. Especially with black girls. No one watches a Brad Pitt movie and think, "Oh wow, I gotta go to US to get me a Brad Pitt."
      However, social and community aspects of society that are portrayed in tv series, movies, and personal broadcasts are somewhat accurate in depicting the actual reality.

    Interracial dating is in fact complicated.
    Guy from the west is most likely gonna be labeled as having yellow fever of some kind when it comes to dating an Asian woman. And similarly, an Asian woman is gonna be perceived as having some type of selfish interest when it comes to dating a guy from the west.
    On the other hand, there are people who like to appreciate and embrace characteristics of their own race (it's a choice after all). So when they are into co-racial relationship, they are labeled as ignorant or racist even. This type of phenomenon is quite interesting.
