even though it feels very out of place especially the second optional part I always play the fall hazard room experience thinking of it as part of the story because of how the first part of it is forced upon you. recently I watched a streamer place slide three and chose to skip the second optional part then it became very frustrating watching them play the rest of the game out knowing about certain features.
I think the implication is that Dr. M was taking the elevator up so that he could then cross over & change the security code himself, but didn't get the chance to because he was interrupted by the phone call. Explains both the little oddities, which he is too intelligent a character to let slide. Super excited for this! I know that the consensus is Sly 2 is the best, & I can't really disagree, but 3 is definitely my personal favorite.
Kaine Island may not have been planned to be fully explorable, however playing the earlier builds of the game it is possible to load into missions on the map that aren't included in the final game, like one similar to Murray's Ball Form challenge from China, where you're meant to use Ball Form to bounce up to the highest point of the map. That may explain the collision across the island.
Really happy to see this. Been a Mario Sunshine fan for most of my life, and seeing your Sly 2 compilation being uploaded finally convinced me to play the game beginning to end so I can see your commentary on it. Your first KH video was also uploaded a few days after I started my first playthrough so all of your uploads have either lined up perfectly with what I was playing or inspired me to finally try some games out. I like to think that the reason we get caught during the heist is us knocking off those Little Rock’s we step on while going across the ledge since it’s right before we’re caught. Like an attentive guard caught something we usually don’t think about. Also not sure if this is something people notice but right next to the vault is a pile of replica canes. So that comment sly makes to dr. M could be him noticing those.
Sly 3 was my first Sly game, so after being recommended the full Sly 2 breakdown a few days ago, I've been looking forward to the potential of this breakdown ever since. The forced tutorial is also less of an issue to me since I actually had use for it, but I do agree that it really doesn't need to exist after 1 and 2 introduced mechanics so organically, and even this game gives a great tutorial just prior.
The biggest thing that could've saved the hazard room was if they let the player essentially make their own jungle gym to test themselves in. Imagine once you completed all the trials, a new set of levers spawned, letting the player drop different kinds of box structures and platforms, add guards, change characters, etc.
i remember going over a friend's place who had a PS2 when i was a kid and seeing Sly Cooper and that was one of the first moments i thought i might not be straight.

I replayed the first mission so many times as a kid. Well, every mission. Found it cool how M had piles of Cooper cane replicas next to the vault door. I love the pause you had between the sly videos. I got sly 3 as a christmas present so the timing just couldn't be any better.

As a French viewer, I just want to add that in the translation, Dr. M never mentions the code (he talks about it but he doesn't say 1-2-3) which always left me wandering how they got the code in the first place. Another funny translation is Agent Deep Six is called Nemo (because the expression translates to 20k instead of 6k if i remember correctly)
Very excited to see this! One a note about the collision and the lasers dealing damage, while I'm certain there were different versions of the island during development (it's inevitable), I think the reason the objects behave the way they do has to do with the engine. From what I can tell, each object is hard coded to behave a certain way regardless of where it's placed in the level to simplify coding (that is, all spires are programmed to be jumped on even if they're placed OOB as decoration; this makes it so a programmer doesn't have to scrape an entire level to make sure all of the pertinent spires/ropes/ledges/etc are activated). The island looks to be mostly made from objects rather than a terrain map, so those objects probably just had their collision hard coded even when they're only being used as set dressing.
Growing up and playing these games on PS2 - PS4 when I was a kid, still love them at 25yrs old now. Hoping for an eventual PC release so that I can replay them! Thanks for bringing these titles back. Love the videos

12:47, When it's mentioned that the Theivous Racconus in this scene is the same as the one in the start up screen for the game, it is true that the vault illustration is replaced by Sucker punches logo, but what's ALSO true is that the Cane illustration in the top left page, is also Rotated 90 degrees Counter clockwise with the addition of Sly, Murray and Bentley's "icons" being "attached" to the cane :)

A little surprised you didn't bring up the alternate intro that was shown before the game was released - what was replaced by the scene where Sly flashes back to the story so far as he's squished by the huge chimera. It's been a good, god, 20 years since I saw it on IGN or something but it was Sly lying on a beach looking like he'd survived a plane crash of some sort, panting and a little singed. While he's lying there, he THEN starts talking about what led him to that point. Not sure what the original plan was here from Sucker Punch but I've never forgotten it.

Oh man, I was fully expected and ready to wait for the KH1 Breakdowns to be done before this. What a pleasant surprise. Sly 3 is definitely my favorite of the trilogy, so this is gonna be a blast. It's funny to think that this series could actually end before the KH1 one depending on video releases given how much shorter it is.
As a speedrunner of the sly trilogy and a lover of everything sly I can't believe this is happening so fast. The sly 2 one was my favorite series, and I'm so excited to see this one too
Some things about sly 3 that i think could be fun to mention when you get to later parts of this: 1. All the paintings you look for hidden numbers in through the game are concept art depicting locations from earlier sly games like the india levels and prague. 2. The grapple cam can enter every safehouse if you press it up against the windows and spam the X button, you can even see it if you go back inside. 3. You can quick kill General Tsao by using the knockout dive and knocking him into a wall then quickly press triangle, square when close enough to where he lands. 4. You can kill Carmelita in the levels she roams around in by shrinking her and blowing her up. She will return to normal size and you can move her using more bombs. (I like to leave her outside the safe house like a doormat.) 5. Characters in the game appear bigger the further away they are. This is most noticable when you're walking into Tsao's castle in the photography mission as sly.
Fun fact, Sly 3 was actually the 1st Sly game I started with. It was a trip when I played the other games in backwards order and realized about the Clue Bottles since Sly 3...doesnt have any See, back when Insomniac, Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch were all adjacent to each one another, Up your Arsenal, Jak 3 and Sly 3 were literally all made and developed in under a years time and man replaying the games you can see the crunch time and how after these games released it became clear that Naughty Dog and Insomniac were going to be the powerhouses for Sony going forward.
Sly 3 was the second game I ever purchased myself for the PS2, never touched the series before. Found Sly 2 & 1 later on at my local used game store, and played the series backwards. (My first purchase was Lego Star Wars)

I think Square Enix is now obsessed with transitioning from gameplay to cutscene and vice versa seamlessly now, which arguably started with Final Fantasy VII Remake and Kingdom Hearts III. I geeked out when I first noticed this especially now that the gameplay graphics are good enough to be special cutscene graphics. So, no more videos playing excluding endings and teasers. Final Fantasy XVI really goes crazy with bouncing between them.
The good thing about doing this series now is that on the 10th, the Ps4 and Ps5 remaster is coming out. Maybe most of the stinky Sanzaru porting will be fixed up in it
