Jesse thanks for your video. For me Selmer make the greatest saxophones on the planet they have their own particular sound. The reference 54 is fantastic I bought on when they first came out and have not regretted it - it’s a pity that they are going to discontinue it. Enjoy playing music On this great instrument. God bless you and yours - Bill - UK
It's a beautiful instrument Jesse. I hope you really enjoy playing the Ref 54. You'll never want another alto again, especially if you like Selmer instruments. They have their own sound. I wish you much joy and success learning about it . It takes a life time of playing. God bless. Bill. UK
The fact that 20K people have watched this video is astonishing to me! I didn’t realize how much people wanted to know what came with horns we pay so much for, thank y’all!
I think that saxophone players are still interested in Selmer saxophones no matter what they say! The Mark 6 set the standard. The Reference 54 is not a copy of it but it is a very nice saxophone to play. Many years ago I sold a Mark 6 and lived to regret it. The 54 is easier to play and is a fine instrument. Once we have our horns it takes a lifetime to get to know them. They have to become a part of you and like everything else you have good and bad days. There are many great horns out there but there will always been an interest in Selmer's instruments. They also make very fine clarinets ! God bless you for posting this video. Enjoy that beautiful instrument ! Bill - UK
It’s definitely not a copy. I’ve played on Mark VIs and could not stand how awful and inconsistent they were. This takes the core sound and fixes all my complaints about it!
i don’t think so, each Mark VI is unique and that’s what makes them more independent and individualized. References took the “best” and made it a copy. with a somewhat modern twist to it.
I can’t remember exactly how much I paid for it off my head. But I know that there was no tax. There was a $35 shipping fee and that was it. I paid for the horn and shipping and nothing more. I think in total I paid ~$52/5300
I keep forgetting to make a video updating my thoughts. I’ll try to make a video going more in depth But basically I love it and I haven’t changed much on it
@@hincapiej4 honestly I don’t know and haven’t checked their site in awhile after I got my soprano (not from them) I just figured since they’re so close to a lot of the factories
When I can remember to record one and not be busy teaching. It’s very smooth and even across the whole range and even altissimo. To me, the dark lacquer reference is a very sweet sound. I love it for jazz but I have a difficult time keeping it dark for classical. I’m making time to record a sound video after some months of use.
Jesse Urquieta , I have a king tru-tone alto from 1921. I’m not an alto guy. I prefer a tenor. But I still love playing it. My tenor is another King from the early 60s. It’s been played hard since it was manufactured and looks it. All altos feel weird to me ! Lol
I really wanted to see this unboxing. But it was very frustrating, watching you struggle with one hand on what is clearly a two hand process. I couldn’t get past a minute 32. Too bad. ,,,when you tried to open the lig with your left hand, i said bye. Bye

Beautiful mate! look forward to you hearing you giving it a blow!
ForteeTwoTwenty I finally put up a video of me playing the horn. It’s a classical piece
PS Most pictures are of course very personal the Salma soloist Cstar it’s a great classic Mouthpieces Originally from the 50s - enjoy - Bill
Yo tengo un Reference 54 mate y su sonido es de lo mejor que he probado. Te felicito. Es muy buen instrumento
“This is very, very reminiscent of a Mark VI” Because the Reference 54 is an exact modern copy of the design of the Mark VI.
Pageboy25
It’s more of a “tribute” than a copy. A great horn in its own right, but not exact.

You need a camera mount, which will stabilize your videos and leave both of your hands free.
The way you opened it made me cringe so much because it was 1 handed
Friend it was too dang hard to prop up my phone! I finally gave up and hit record
Thomann is a German company, you just bought from their English website.
Great horn, no doubt. Plays great too, played it at Thomann. ;-)
Hi Jess, so you can buy a horn cheaper if you purchase it from a European store?
How do you like the horn and mouthpiece? I use a 1960’s vintage soloist C* and I love it. I imagine you love yours too.
I absolutely love the horn! I’ve had it over a year now and am so happy I purchased it! I actually use a S90 now
Rất tuyệt và xuất sắc , banp có thể bán cho mình 1 cây cũ ko sài tới ko , vì mình ko có khả năng đổ mua
Shiny! Love it
Have a question, is it safe to buy these kind of expensive instruments on Thornnman online?
OMG! What a beautiful gold!
yes..., my Mark 7 have the same colour... like Caramelo color
I think the matte looks nicer
Looking to get this exact same one with the deep gold $8,900
Can you give a little insight concerning customs & duties as to what additional cost if any?

Very nice but the cannonball you’re mentioned is a pro horn
TONY FINNEY yeah it is, it’s what I play for tenor. This was my first pro alto
What country from France 🇫🇷 ?
Muy lindo 🎷
Waaaahhh beautiful
The new saxophone was SEALED by Selmer Co. or store company?
Thanks.
boris aranchuk as far as I could tell, it was sealed by selmer. Shipped to thomann and then they sold it as it was.
Price ❓

do you jazz and can you play donna lee
I do play jazz actually! I haven’t started learning that chart yet however

Well I dont have enough money for that

No white gloves? Forget it, cheap! 🤪😜😝

Every cheap instrument I've owned has came with useless white gloves, every very nice instrument has came without white gloves.
Sir someone sell me this same saxophone in approx 1000 $ I have a doubt its real or fake. How to know
its a fake
The real Paris Selmer saxophone has a print which is pressed on the instrument.
If you buy straight from seller you won't have to worry if it is fake
