  • "I might be slow but I keep my flow. I won't stop till I reach the top", with this attitude when D.P. Singh entered the auditorium, a roar full of motivation from the crowd was clearly audible. He began the talk by with “I am blessed.” He shared his life experience of school time that made him understand that whatever happens, happens for a reason. He also shared his experience of ‘The Kargil War’ in which he lost his one leg. Despite several failures, he never lost hope. He truly believes in the saying - ‘Actions speak louder than words’. Blessed are those who face big challenges as “whenever there is a storm in your life, just take it something big is going to come your way”. He concluded by saying “Feel blessed, stay happy, stay cheerful and JAI HIND.” His speech truly motivated the audience and left them awestruck.
Major D.P. Singh is known as the India's blade runner. His grueling efforts and the ability to convert adversity into liability has set new standards of bravery and endurance for people like us. Today, he holds the Limca record for being the first Indian to run a half marathon with the blade -- a feat that has earned him the epithet of India's Blade Runner.
On July 8th, 1999, India was taking on Pakistan in the Kargil War. Major D.P. Singh fought bravely but was severely injured by a mortar which was fired from the other side of the border. He was declared dead at the Army hospital, but another doctor saved him. Singh's legs were amputated in order to keep him alive. He did not let his disability affect him as he took up running and wanted to be a part of the Delhi Marathon in 2009. That was how long it took for Singh to recover from his injuries.
