I needed to replace my Ghost Max which I’ve used mainly as a LR run shoe for over 300 miles. I went into my running store open-minded, but expecting to love the Rebel4; however that shoe was too baggy on my medium-narrow forefeet. I struggled to get a decent lockdown by cinching the laces tight, and it just didn’t provide the support in the upper for my need case. The more substantial upper of the Mach6 fit me like a glove and the slightly firmer but fun (much improved) midsole gave me the kind of ride I need for long runs. While the Ghost Max didn’t feel heavy, the Mach is lighter and even more nimble. I’m also pleased they improved it with a grippy outsole while not adding significant weight. I feel it will be an excellent and versatile general trainer with more durability than past iterations. It also looks very classy in black with white midsoles if you’re not fond of the mermaid color trend.
I've got almost 30 miles in the Mach 6 now and I feel the rocker quite a bit and the shoe just rolls along so smoothly with that bouncy midsole. I like it for easy runs or for picking up the pace. This is the first HOKA that I've really liked.
I was a big fan of the Mach 4 and, for cost reasons, skipped the 5. But now I definitely need a new pair and will go for the Mach 6. Appreciate the general thumbs up to validate my choice to continue with this line!
I’ve run in Mach 4 and 5, tried the 6 for 5k and definitely much narrower than the previous versions. I have a larg-ish foot but was never a problem until this version. Regarding the comparison with the Rebels, I’m afraid the Rebel’s midsole blend will lose its “bounce” after a couple of hundred km, in Mach 4/5 fashion… looking forward to the comparison to come!
I got the Mach 4 on discount a while back....ended up finding it just way too narrow. Even tried taking the insole out which I do to a lot of my shoes...somehow that made it feel even worse. So I sold it on ebay. Hokas in general seem to not be the best fit for my feet. Always a hot spot or some blister issue. Only exception was the Bondi 4 waaay back when. Really enjoyed that one. If I try anymore Hokas...I should probably stick to the Bondi line.
Woah! The Mach 6 is very promising. I am looking for a good speed work out/daily trainer outside Asics Novablast and Superblast. I'll try to save up for this kicks. Also, I am one of those minimalist folks, wants to keep 1-2 shoes in the rotation (3 if something really caught my attention and liking). BTW, congrats on reaching 20k subs! I am happy with your progress as a vlogger. I've witness it and I am there when you only have less than 200 subs!
glad it's an upgrade, i loooved the 4/5! just not too keen on the overall design of the 6. i think the predecessors had more character, these look more like a streamlined clifton.
So far I’ve been more impressed with the Rebel V4 based on the reviews. I really want to get myself at least one pair of Hoka running shoes but it’ll probably be one with a plate.
I thought I’d favor the Revel4 also based on reviews. But for my use case, I walked out with the Mach6, to my own surprise. It fit my medium-narrow foot far better and felt more solid as a general trainer. For context, I’m nota huge fan of super soft midsoles. I also couldn’t get a satisfactory lockdown on the new Rebel, and the forefoot swam on me.
@@Martha-fluterunner I’ve had lockdown issues with NB except for Rebel V3. It’s like the child from a different parent. Maybe I should try the Mach 6 also.
I don’t know.., I have had 3 Hoka shoes.., Clifton 7, so so… Mach 4 was fine but died early.., and tecton x.., the only on that has impressed me so far.. So I am on the fence on hoka road shoes
I've really liked their trail shoes but didn't like their road shoes at all until I bought the Rocket X2, and it was the best road experience I've ever had. I just bought the Cielo and I love it too. Evidently, I really get along with their carbon plated shoes (the Tecton X is one of my favorite trail shoes ever).
Better in what way? What do you expect from your running shoe. For daily training if you want more cushion (for long runs) and stability Speed 4. For the price this one will cover everything for you but with no plate.
Having tried both, I’m backing Emily’s comment. My use case for the Mach 4 is general trainer, including long runs. I tend to go too fast for my “easy” LR’s in my Speeds (I’m still finishing off a pair of 2’s) so for the easy ones, I prefer a solid, supportive yet still nimble and fun shoe and I ended up with the Mach 6 after comparing it to the Rebel 4 and other candidates. The Rebel was far too baggy on my forefoot and I couldn’t get a decent lockdown as a result, which is why for my use case I ruled it out. The Endo Speed, Ghost Max and Takumi Sen all cover my speed work and other faster runs amply. I expect the Mach 6 to be far more durable than past iterations and also very versatile. They happen to fit my medium narrow feet perfectly. You must try on shoes for yourself in the end; it becomes very clear then.
I'm nervous about it because the Mach 5 is the best shoe for me that I've run in. Mach 6 is a very different shoe. It may be great in its own right, but in terms of running experience any big change from the 5 would be a loss imo.
You are a bit to young to know about the TV cartoon Speed Racer, but as soon as you mentioned the Mach 5...it would of been a TOTAL crack up if you played a brief inlay of the theme of the cartoon....that would of had some of your views rolling on the ground laughing.....to funny!
Speaking as a 49 year old welder (child of the 80's, visual crippler, etc.), those colors are hot fire.

New find Endorphin Speed 3 mushy.. Will try the Mach 6..
Great review Emily! Bonus style points for matching your LED lighting to the Mach 6. 🙌 Dang that’s a pretty shoe. 😍
just bought it, can’t wait!
Great review colors remind be of 80's early 90's. And hi ruby where ever you are

LFG!!!! Heller my beautiful friend. 😊
It sure looks great !
Great review as always !

I have the 5 and tried on the 6 at the store. I agree they are narrow. I just ordered them in wide so finger crossed they will be fine.
Great review. Totally dig the music in this one 😎🔥

Yes unfortunately their shoes are generally narrow
I wanted to love the Mach 5 and used it for shorter speed work but found it to be too narrow and my foot isnt wide

Did you get the Mach 6?

What about stability? Compared to the Cloudmonster or NB4?

@@Martha-fluterunner true you just have to try them yourself. I’ve liked some shoes that most reviewers didn’t.

Solid, Good, thanks
Trying to choose between the Rebel v4 and Mach 6. I've been through the Rebel V2 then Novablast 3 and now Mach 5, so I think it's the Rebel's turn lol

Hopefully the new midsole on the Mach 6 (which I chose among a few candidates in my running store yesterday) is another story entirely.
Mach 6 vs Rebel v4?
Going to do a comparison video this week
So this is better than the Saucony Endorphin speed 4? I wanna know the answer.😢
They’re different. If you’re looking for a speedier shoe I’d go endorphin speed. This is more of a daily trainer type shoe and less of a hybrid
Better in what way? What do you expect from your running shoe. For daily training if you want more cushion (for long runs) and stability Speed 4. For the price this one will cover everything for you but with no plate.
The Endorphin Speed have a plate, like the Mack X, I would not compare them with the Mach 6 or Rebel v4

Hi all this upper has the same narrow as the clifton 9?
It’s going to be a bit narrow yes
Brooks ghost max, Mach 6 or Clifton 9? Thanks
Haven’t tried Brooks Max
I’d probably go with Mach 6
would you say the hoka mach 6 is a firmer ride to the speed 4?
No I think it’s softer
I'm nervous about it because the Mach 5 is the best shoe for me that I've run in. Mach 6 is a very different shoe. It may be great in its own right, but in terms of running experience any big change from the 5 would be a loss imo.
That’s fair. It is a nice ride though!

Vegan Easter egg running shoe.
Mach 6 vs Kinvara.
Nice review, ugly colorway! Can't wait for your review of NB rebel v4, which I just purchased but haven't wore yet. ☮️
I have a review of the Rebel v4 on my channel already, but I will be comparing the Mach 6 to the Rebel v4 soon’
Hi, I wore the rebel v4 today and they are awesome! Extremely lightweight and super squishy, love them!!
