  • This video describes how I made a model building for my Gn15 model railway. The technique used here can be used for other scales like HO and O scale or even for war game or dioramas. The foam when carefully carved and painted gives a convincing representation of brick or stone. For a more detailed tutorial watch the RUclips channel Night Shift for even better quality result. Watch his video here: • Carving An Old French ...
    The video took more than 2 weeks to make due to hand elbow surgery (you can see a hand brace in some of the video scenes). Also my French bulldog can be heard in the background sleeping. It’s hardly noticeable.
    Super enjoyable process, play your favorite podcast or music and carefully make a gazillion bricks.
    Modeling a railway set in the 1930s off the coast of Italy in a fictional village called Amalfitano. The people and the railway have their stories. Along the way I will share these stories, how to’s and updates on the little Gn15 scale railway.
    The layout is L shaped. Construction started on November 7, 2020.

    Gosh i forgot about that. Yes I typically cut myself, knock things i already glued on the layout (especially the lamps attached to the outside walls of buildings).

    using the tip guard of an electric clipper is what i use on foam . just scribe it along ..it makes suberb downward notches for brick as well

    Very cool how you did this! Love your use of the foam as a base, the initial cover of the diluted white glue, the painting of the bricks and your method of adding the sanded grout dry and then spraying it with alcohol.
    Very cool results. Definitely will add this to my repertoire!!

    Great instructional video, love the idea of the thin sections being built up to represent old plaster / render . Definitely one to remember and save .Many thanks from the UK🇬🇧

      Proxon or equivalent is a revelation it makes that effect so easy to do.

    Nice build using foam. Would have never thought it would turn out that good. Are the scenic tables, chairs, people, etc. made from foam as well? I think that it wold be hard to do for HO scale but easier for O scale since I do both. Cheers from eastern TN

      No just the buildings, retaining wall and staircase are made of foam. The chairs are 3 d printed, boat is made of paper.

    You progressed from a band-aid on you thumb to a wrist wrap. Just how hazzardous is this scratch building? Looks great. Thank you for sharing.

      My wrist is from carpol tunnel from my day job (real estate finance). Thumb is from cooking dinner. So I would say model railroading is less hazardous than real life

    Hi , Your video came up and it is a very informative idea . I also do this method for HO retaining walls , Viaducts , Tunnel portals etc . I use a solder iron and a metal straight edge . it is so much faster and gives excellent results .

      @TravelinginMiniature  Год назад

      Small pencil soldering iron? Sounds promising. I presume you're wearing a mask so as to not inhale the fumes. Thanks for the tip!

    Can anything be added to have these buildings outside?

    • @TravelinginMiniature
      @TravelinginMiniature  Год назад

      I’m thinking my buildings are pretty fragile to remain overnight outside and the sun might fade the paint. If you stored them indoors Dr after use then maybe. Here are a couple of helpful articles I found www.mylargescale.com/threads/hollow-foam-buildings.88092/ or modelrailwayengineer.com/garden-railway-buildings-the-best-materials-to-use/amp/

      Yes unfortunately I cut myself often. But knocking things over with my elbows or spilling glue is even more common. Hahaha.
