His gift of empathy is enthralling and Age of Adz translates this. Love this album and I believe this is the most evolved pieces yet of Sufjan. Thank you. The gift of music. Music is Love.
Instincts and sounds... Something to which he's very faithful. Somehow he embodies an atmosphere and can translate it and give it back to share perfectly.. He's so inner rich.. Love what you do Sufjan
I think this album would have been appreciated a little more if it had been engineered a little better. The sound is atrocious through most of it. It's a clipping nightmare. Noisy for the sake of being noisy and that buries some REALLY GOOD songwriting in some really audibly awful soundscapes.
Josh Sater I’m pretty sure that’s a big point of it. I’ve listened to a lot of music. A lot. I’ve heard awful, awful engineered music. The Age of Adz is not one of them. I was not a fan of this when I first heard it. I was not a fan of In Rainbows when I first heard it. I was not a fan of Talons’ - Rustic Bullshit when I first heard it. These have grown on me to become my favorite LPs of all time. They have many things in common, but the most apparent is how they portray life in art. Each one of them is a concept piece, using different techniques to replicate emotion. These resonate deeply, Talons’ field recordings to Thom’s songwriting parallels in his analogies. Adz does something different. Many are confused about how I believe Adz emulates and pulsates with life unlike many others. Here’s why. Life is messy. Life is unorganized. Life is also inconsequential and insignificant. As sufjan himself explains, this album is erratic, instinctual. Whether for the purpose of the concept or not, when paralleling this LP with the narrative it provides, it LIVES. It breathes and moves on its own because of these strange soundscapes. It’s sufjan’s vessel to emulating a concept album that is true to its source material: a living being. Tl;dr: Adz uses the soundscapes many criticize it for to bring itself to life with emotion that is erratic and impulsive as a living being is.
"The Age of Adz" will be known in my mind forever as a work of genius; it seems it may go on to be very underappreciated, but only time will tell.
It really is a work of genius.
I can listen to his monologues, and find them fascinating. This guy is the genuine article.
I love his universe. He really managed to get me inside of it. He's magic.

"...the spinal chord, and the nervous system"
wOOooPp!
I always love "The Age of Adz".
"I Walked" is one of my favorite songs of all time. It's both catchy and thought-provoking.
If someone ever finds an audio book where Sufjan is reading, gimme. I don't give a crap about what book it is.
At some point he should do that. Some book that inspired him.
my life will not be complete until i see Impossible Soul performed live

Through is music I feel like we are of the same mind, but when he speaks, I realize that his awareness is far beyond anything I could ever attain.
Unfortunately now two years after your comment, it is entirely underappreciated, but that doesn't mean us select few can't absolutely love it.
eu te amo muito seriokkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
