Jimmy, you remember us touching base on Steam and me being a bit blown away? Talking about how I was a bit starstruck? That's because I've been fighting depression for the past decade, and you hitting me up on Steam was honestly one of the high points of my past five years on Earth. You're an inspiration, 100%, and you should never forget that. I know that doesn't make it easier for you, but, for some people, you really are a sort of lighthouse. Your presence brings a few thousand people happiness, and that matters. The several thousand among us who are subscribers are subscribers for one or another reasons, and for some of us, that reason is very personal. It might just be what keeps us going, and for those people, you're a godsend. Please never forget that.

Jimmy. I'm pretty new to your channel. You've mentioned you have had problems and the way in which you said it made me suspect depression. I didn't realise how severe your depression was.
I can relate. I'm 33 now. I lost the latter half of my 20s to depression. There were telltale signs when I was younger that I was prone to depression but it is only in retrospect that I saw it. When I was in my 20s I started to become depressed and some days I couldn't deal with going to work, so I'd throw sickies. My work actually paid to send me to a psychiatrist and I was told that I was severely depressed. Being in a depressive state of mind, I didn't actively help myself and despite my diagnosis, my work terminated my employment due to my lack of attendance.
That was a major blow and I was at rock bottom. I sought another job as at the time I was sharing a flat with my brother and needed work so that I could pay the rent. I literally reached breaking point. I woke up one morning, purchased some rope from a hardware store (after having researched how to tie a noose) and headed out to a wooded area that I know. I wrote a suicide note and put it in my pocket and sat on a tree branch with the noose around my neck rocking back and fourth trying to get up the courage to do it, however I did not trust my rope tying ability and didn't want to be left scrabbling around on tiptoe. This was meant to be quick and painless. I then went to a cliff by the sea and contemplated juming, but again wasn't sure of whether the fall would kill me outright. I then found another cliff, this time away from the sea that I was fairly sure would do the job. I kept thinking of the people that I'd leave behind, especially my mother. That would be the biggest slap in the face I could possibly deliver. I decided that for the sake of my family and friends (my two closest) that I couldn't do it to them. It would be selfish and I didn't want to cause them pain.
I knew then that I had to seek help. I told my mother of my breakdown and we went to my doctor. He referred me to my local mental health centre. I attended sessions with psychiatrists, psychlogists and occupational therapists for the next few years. I have been out of work for nearly ten years but with the help of family, friends, mental health workers and a local employment trust that helps people return to work, this year I've started work again.
I'm happy to hear that you are taking the right steps to help yourself. I also think your honesty is admirable. Not everyone understands what it is like to have a part of your brain that is constantly laying into you. It's like having an angel and a devil on each shoulder but the devil is running you down and the angel stands there and says pretty much nothing. I'm sure you've had this said to you, but depression isn't something that goes away unfortunately. The trick is learning how to manage it, and like I said, you seem to be doing all the right things. I wish you the best of luck Jimmy and I hope 2017 is a better year for you :)

@William YOUNG @Hidden World Hi, and thanks for your concern. Unfortunately life hasn't been too good. My mother passed away last year. Understandably this has made my struggle with depression more difficult. I'm doing my best to not let it get on top of me and have continued taking my medication and have kept drinking to a minimum because I get very low when I drink. Fortunately I do have the support of my family and friends, but admittedly I rarely find talking helps because a large part of my struggle is internal. I'm just taking things one day at a time.

    - I can feel a broken man... Someone who didn't as felt himself. I can hear a body, with almost no energy, suffer.
    - Now... I see, a man full of life, someone who enjoys life. Being a YTber, a SimRacer, a guy that won Le Mans with a team which are now his friends. But most importantly... He's happy with himself again.
I'm writing this after seeing your 2019 round-up. I'm a sub from mid 2018, and I really feel a broken Jimbo in this video. I don't have nor the age, nor the experiences to say: "I understand how you felt." I only want to say...

Same situation. Long-time stream donator. Subbed in mid 2018 during a rocky, abusive relationship; Early 2019's content helped me through uncomfortably quiet patches in the aftermath!

Jimmy i have no words... Last year i bought a £2000 gaming pc, streaming equipment, designed my own gaming channel etc.. i still havent been able to upload anything because of horrible mental health issues. I too drank, smoked and fought my way into Oblivion, destroying everything around me. Having just seen this video though, its genuinely made me smile as you have made it and have realized the dream that so many of your followers thought was impossible for sim drivers. You have given me the courage to just say fuck it and start making content again and it really is inspiring. I think alot more youtubers could take a leaf out of your book and start promoting mental health charities on their channels too. You are genuinely inspiring and one day, i hope to meet you on the virtual racetrack. I think some kind of MIND racing championship or something similar could really take off. Thank you jimmy, as youve given me hope and determination. You deserve it.

Sucks that the NHS told you to just "man up" because when I went to my GP about the fact I was suffering from anxiety and scratching holes in my arms (I have allergies and my eczema got horribly infected bringing on anxiety and depression) they had me in the next day and talked to me at length about how I was feeling and gave me reams of paper with numbers to call and therapists in my area as well as putting me on the right medication first time. In a selfish way, I'm glad it was just to calm me down and not because I want to throw myself off a bridge onto the M6 but when I see two of my favourite RUclipsrs talk at length about it (you being one of them) it reminds me of the six or seven months I spent with the curtains drawn and not wanting to go outside as what I had done to myself for the first time in my life made me ashamed to go outside or see anybody and I've always been good about going out with red, cracked hands and stuff. And also, watching people talk about it makes me want to help. You've got a good community behind you and we're always here.

So happy for you Jimmy. Your passion and personality is what makes your videos special, you have an admirable attitude and I have learned a lot from you. Thank you for showing us the best of times, and the worst of times, we need more discussions like this in the world. I have been watching you for over a year and it really brought tears to my eyes when you announced that you were racing in real life and your dream came true. Nobody deserves that more than you Jimmy. Love and support from a nowhere town in the USA ❤️.

This is the main reason I subscribed. I heard you talking about mental health so openly and honestly, no sugar coating and that’s something immensely reassuring to hear from someone else while you’re going through similar things, it makes it feel less isolating I guess. Anyways thank you for being so genuine it really is so refreshing to see.

Well you have a new sub. It's great to find someone who will openly speak out about "actual" mental health problems on a social media platform. I had a very similar year to you but luckily I didn't get so far down the path of substance abuse but I was close. Right now my depression is under control and the only thing currently holding my back is panic attacks/anxiety and that's something I hope to get under control this year. I only just came across your channel about 30 mins ago because I'm just getting into sim racing but I already feel I relate to you. Keep your head high and have a positive 2017.

Incredibly brave to not have taken this video down out of shame, It's unbelievable how much you turned it around. You can tell this is real because of the monotone voice, long drawn out breaths during each sentence, especially nearing the end of the video. Mental health issues are real and more men with them NEED to speak up. I used to be like that, everything felt like so much effort, failure was a constant result, not a variable and my self esteem was at the floor.
I really wish younger me could've watched this around 2016 when I was going through tough times, if anyone is going through something similar, no matter how trivial you think it is. REACH OUT, no man is an island and all it takes is one good friend or a hobby to take the edge off.
It's easy to be negative and to hate and to be angry, it's hard to love, to find happiness and to forgive. Especially forgiving yourself can be the toughest part of recovery.

With a family member lost deep in the depths of depression and other related ailments for more than 10 years, I have a slight inkling of what you've been going through and how hard it can be to get help. Dear Jimmy, Having only discovered your channel in 2020 during lockdown I was amazed at your commentary skills whilst driving. Your enthusiasm, passion and humour draws people in and I'm sure it won't be long before you are celebrating your One Million subscriber and being offered a commentary job on SKY, whilst being allowed to continue on RUclips. Now though, that I have watched this video as well I can't believe its the same person. You have really gone through the mill and back out again, thankfully to a better place. Having mental health issue in my own Family I know its a horrid experience to watch let alone actually feel. You should be so proud of yourself for not only your fight with this disease but your openness and frank retelling of it which has brought this to the attention and understanding of all those that watch your channel. Continue the good work and I wish you well both mentally, physically and spiritually.
