    Ruqyah refers to the recitation of some specific verses from the Holy Qur’an or to make supplication using words that are mentioned in the Hadith of Prophet Mohammad (saw). Ruqyah can be described as a spiritual healing prayer in which verses from the Holy Qur’an or the supplications from the Prophet are used in order to heal oneself or somebody else from sickness and evil eye.
    Ruqyah is a Sunnah of our beloved Prophet Mohammad (saw). He used to recite ruqyah for himself whereas some of his companions (Sahaaba) used to recite ruqyah for themselves.
    We know for a fact that the Holy Quran has been sent down on earth as a guide and cure to all human beings. Allah (swt) has said in the Quran that
    Allah (swt) says in the Quran, ‘We send down (stage by stage) in the Quran that which is a healing and mercy to those who believe’.
    Allah (swt) says in the Quran ‘If a suggestion from Satan assails thy (mind), seek refuge with God; for He heareth and knoweth (All things), and ''And when I am ill, it is He who cures me’.
    Allah (swt) also says in the Quran, ‘We send down from the Quran that which is a healing and mercy for those who believe”.
    These verses from the Quran ascertain that Allah (swt) has told his followers to use the words from his Quran to cure us of all evils and illnesses. This treatment is known as ruqyah.
    There is ample evidence from the ahadith that prove the significance of ruqyah in Islam.
    Sahih Bukhari Hadith (Volume 7, Number 634) narrated Aisha (RA) Prophet Mohammad (saw) ordered me or somebody else to do Ruqya in case there was a danger from an evil eye.
    Sahih Bukhari Hadith (Volume 7, Number 631) Narrated 'Aisha (RA): During the Prophet's (saw) serious illness, he used to recite the Mu'auwidhat (Surat An-Nas and Surat Al-Falaq) and then blow his breath over his body. When his pain became intense, I used to recite those two Suras and blow my breath over him and make him rub his body with his own hand for its blessings." (Ma'mar asked Az-Zuhri: How did the Prophet (prayers and peace be upon him) use to blow? Az-Zuhri said: He used to blow on his hands and then passed them over his face.) Hazrat Ayesha (ra) also said that, ‘Prophet Mohammad (saw) instructed me and everybody else to do Ruqya in case of danger from evil eye’.

      Al-Isra (The Night Journey) , Sura 82 of ayah 111
      وَنُنَزِّلُ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ مَا هُوَ شِفَاءٌ وَرَحْمَةٌ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَلَا يَزِيدُ الظَّالِمِينَ إِلَّا خَسَارًا
      وَنُنَزِّلُ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ مَا هُوَ شِفَاءٌ وَرَحْمَةٌ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَلَا يَزِيدُ الظَّالِمِينَ
      إِلَّا خَسَارًا
      { Translit }
      Wa Nunazzilu Mina A l-Qur' ā ni Mā Huwa Sh if ā 'u n Wa Raĥmatu n Lilmu'umin ī na ۙ Wa Lā Yaz ī du A ž-Žālim ī na 'Illā Kh asārā an
      { Elmir Kuliev }
      We send down in the Qur'an that which is healing and mercy for the believers, but it adds nothing to the wrongdoers except loss.
      { Abu Adel }
      And We send down from the Qur'an that which is a healing [[The verses of the Book of Allah are a healing for the soul from such diseases as doubt, hypocrisy, and ignorance; and they are also a healing for the body when they are recited to a sick person.]] (for the soul and for the body) and (also) mercy [a cause [[Belief in the Qur'an, reciting its verses and pondering over their meaning are a cause for gaining the pleasure of Allah. And it is a manifestation of the mercy of Allah that the Qur'an contains beneficial knowledge that is necessary for a person, both for his Faith and for his life in this world.]] for gaining the pleasure of Allah] for the believers. And for the wrongdoers [disbelievers], it [the Qur'an] only increases the loss [disbelief and error] (when they hear it) (since they do not believe in it) .
      { Interpretation by al-Saadi }
      We send down in the Qur'an that which is a healing and a mercy for the believers, but it adds nothing to the wrongdoers except loss. [[The Qur'an is a source of healing and mercy, but not everyone can reach this source. This is true for the believers who believe in the Qur'an, recognize the truth of its verses, and begin to practice them. As for the wicked who refuse to believe in this Scripture or to follow its commands, the Qur'anic revelations bring them nothing but loss, because they deprive them of the excuse of their own ignorance. The healing that the Qur'anic verses bring is the removal of doubts, ignorance, evil views, harmful fabrications, and evil intentions from the hearts. The Qur'an contains knowledge that cannot be doubted, which destroys all doubts and errors. The Quran also contains sermons and instructions that help to get rid of base desires and passions that contradict the commands of Allah. And along with this, the verses of the Quran are able to heal human bodies from pain and ailments. As for the mercy that the verses of the Quran bring, it consists of righteous deeds that the Quran calls for. And if the servant of God fulfills these commands, then he manages to find mercy, eternal happiness and reward during life on earth and after death.]]
      { Ibn Kathir }
      Allah the Most High speaks about His Book, which He sent down to His Messenger Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) . And this is the Quran, to which no lie can come either from the front or from behind - a revelation from the Wise, the Praiseworthy. It is also a healing and a mercy for the believers. It heals the diseases of the heart, such as doubts, hypocrisy, shirk, uncertainty and the tendency to error. The Quran heals all of this. It is also a mercy through which faith, wisdom, the desire to do good and love for it are established. And this happens only to those who believe in it, believed and followed it. For such, it is a healing and a mercy. But for the unbeliever, who is unjust to himself, listening to the Quran will only increase the distance from the Quran, and disbelief. And here the trouble is in the unbeliever himself, not in the Quran. As Allah said about this : ( All rights reserved . ( Say: "It is indeed a guidance and a healing for those who believe. But the ears of those who disbelieve are deaf, and they are blind to it. Those are the ones who are called upon from afar." ( 41:44 )
      Allah also said : ْ زَادَتْهُ هَـذِهِ إِيمَـناً فَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ ءامَنُواْ - نَ فِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ فَزَادَتْهُمْ رِجْسًا إِلَى رِجْسِهِمْ ( And when a surah is sent down, there is among them he who says, "Whose faith has this increased?" As for those who believe, it increases their faith, and they rejoice. But as for those who believe , whose hearts are afflicted with a disease, then it adds doubt to their doubt, so they will die as disbelievers." ( 9:124-125 ) There are many other similar verses. Qatadah commented on the words of Allah: ( And We send down of the Qur'an that which is a healing and a mercy for the believers ) - i.e. if a believer hears it, he will benefit from it, learn it and will ponder the meaning.
      ( And for the unjust it only increases the loss ) - i.e., on the contrary, such a person will not benefit, will not learn, and will not ponder the meaning. For Allah has made the Quran a healing and a mercy only for the believers."
