A few years ago, On DMX’s interview on The Breakfast Club he was asked about if he liked Drake. He said he hates the way he looks, the way he dresses, the way he talks etc. I believe the line in Not Like Us, is an homage to DMX, while agreeing with DMX as well.

Is it just me or is the owl in the cage all along? Looked to me that from the owl’s perspective, he can’t see the bars that trap him, he can only see Kendrick. But from Kendrick’s perspective, he can see the owl in the cage, already trapped as it really is.
As a person who grew up in the hood and has a deep love and appreciation for hip-hop as well as cinema tied together by things like metaphors, Easter eggs, similes, allegories, and things alike.
