- My 2 track bikes had to be retired due to mechanical issues by November 2020.
I took out my commuter, a mostly stock XSR 900 to the track as a back-up. Stock suspension, stock brakes, Michelin Road 2 tires, 12,000 miles. The steering damper, clip-ons, rear sets, and HealTech quick-shifter help make the ride more comfortable at higher speeds, but the cold weather, tires, and suspension held me back a bit.
The helmet mounted camera was a first for a big track like Thunderhill, as I usually like to mount my cameras behind the windscreen of sportbikes.
I’d just like to point out that this sport naked retro bike treats sport bikes like obstacles in his way. I love my xsr900 and the rocks it tosses on corvettes.
Got me a 2021. Gear it lower for a track like this and you're GOD
Gearing I was pretty happy with. The suspension and brake master cylinder needed major work.
are those the woodcraft clip on? How do you feel about the riding posistion compared to stock? also how tall are you if you don't mind? Im 6ft and am thinking of getting the same ones
They are great! I like sportbike riding position so this is the middle ground between sportbike back breaking position and the OEM upright.
XSR OnFire!!!!🤘✌✊
Thanks for the vid. Thunderhill is on my bucket list. Its a longer haul for me, where I am closer to Willow Springs, Buttonwillow, Fontana, Chuckwalla, etc. But I want to take my 2016 XSR to the track!
I moved to WA but drove 11 hours to go to the track with my buddies. I know the feeling!
I have zero track experience so forgive my ignorance, but were you feeling out the first lap? You got on it after that. Also it appears you are not allowed to pass on corners? Watching your other laps you had the ability to pass on that first lap but did not. I know it's against the clock not other riders per se.
Hey, yes I generally force myself to go a bit easier on the first lap, even with tire warmers. It's a way to force my suspension, brakes, engine, body, and mind to warm up. You're allowed to pass, which I did about halfway though the first lap (between turn 8-9 at 1:46).
@@boogieman065 Thank you for the clarification. You were killing it. I was looking for photos or videos of the lean angle capabilities of the xsr900. I own a 2018 model and know I can get lower but it's just trusting it lol. Very entertaining video and great riding.
@@XSR_RUGGER thanks! Best to do your technique refinements on the track. I certainly do not lean as much on the street haha. Ride safe and have fun!
Similar set up to mine. Nice riding. What steering dampener are you using?
FXCNC eBay/Amazon one. Works fine, but I can't speak to the durability of it. It reduced the common headshakes I was getting on this bike.
@@boogieman065 did you have to trim the plastic on the tank to fit it?
@@alexmuccilli I did have to trim about 1cm off the front. Not visually noticable.
Nice riding!! Thinking of getting an XSR 900 as my next bike, coming from an sv650.
I've ridden both, it'll be a big and fun improvement.
I road a loaner sv650 while my xsr900 was getting a tune. You'll have a blast on the xsr900 ;)
Bro, can U tell what’s the difference between stock & woodcraft on d racetrack when cornering?
I cannot because I only kept the stock bar for a week. Everyone wants different ergonomics, I'm from a sportbike background and even the Woodcraft is a bit too upright for me.
What tires are you using? What's your preferred pressure in front and rear
I was on Pilot Road 2s. Kinda old. I ran 31psi front, 32psi rear due to the colder weather. If this wasn't used for rain commuting so much, I'd throw on Q3+.
Thank you!
Where did you get your quickshifter?
HealTech, got it from a seller on ebay.
Nice vid!
Is that a stock speedo/display?
The speedometer display is all stock but the gauge has been relocated lower with a Graves relocation kit.
What handlebars are you using?
Woodcraft clip ons with medium drop.
nice screwdriver technique!
Nice bro
