Check the waterpump seal. Gear oil is what most people run in the chaincase. A little shavings is fine on the magnet. The best oil to use is marine mercruser gear fluid. But 80/90 is good. They where fun sleds. I put many seasons on a 93 xlt sks.
@BigJakesGarage I've heard of people using atf but that's too thin. With all the heat in the chaincase gear oil will thin out. I've even added an ounce of grease or Lucas in with gear oil to thicken it up a bit. Chaincase tension is key also. Loosen jamb nut and tighten bolt finger tight. Then tighten jamb nut while holding bolt from moving.

Thank you for the reply! Will definitely check that out. I’ve been told never to use 80/90 but I will check into that.

Honestly anything is better than having nothing in the chaincase. People can argue about what's better bla bla bla. Lol
If your head is gone and its burning coolant you would smell it in the exhaust
That’s the thing I haven’t smelled it yet but it’s definitely going somewhere guess I’ll have to tear into it and figure it out!
