No crank/No start 3.6L GM FIXED!

  • 2010 Buick enclave, 3.6l no crank no start with the fuel pump running constantly when key is on. Did a re and re on the engine to replace and then experienced a electrical failure a couple days after the install.Could not get the scan tool to read. Traced the fault to a bad connection on a ground terminal. Re-soldered the connection and fixed the problem.
    An easy check would be to find the ground wire on your MAF sensor, center one, black/white. Put a continuity tester from that pin to any ground on motor, then reach to the front of motor bank 1 and wiggle the harness connected to the cam actuators. That harness goes just behind the head and is bolted there. If the tester flickers on and off, you have a poor connection at the terminal where the wire is soldered on. There are 9 wires in that cable that will all have a bad ground because they are crimped as one.. 1 goes to starter relay, 1 to MAF , a couple to transmission and a few to ECM, For some reason the fuel pump keeps running as well. A scanner tool won't read anything after the ABS, and there is no voltage at DLC pin 7, and elevated voltage at pin 4/14 and 4/6 above the standard 2.6V with key on.
    If this can help anyone from trying to find a wire fault, I hope so.

    Thank you! Last week I spent three days helping a friend with similar issues on his Acadia. He had put a new timing chain on about 6 weeks ago and it started one time then wouldn't start again. Had it have been anyone else I would have figured that they didn't know what they were doing. However this guy has his own shop and is the guy that everyone take their stuff to when they can't figure things out. So it was one of his kids vehicles and he was working on it in his free time and getting frustrated big time. I was researching on the internet what I could find since last Monday and we have been trying different things. We also had checked the fuel pump module, body control module and PCM and changed relays and went all through the wiring. From the way it looked to us we had a grounded out positive wire, however I'm guessing now that the 50amp fuse that showed power when the battery is unhooked on the positive side and two jumper wires, one hooked to the positive side of the battery and the other hooked to the positive cable must be hot at all times now. Otherwise it wouldn't have had a ground to complete the circuit.
    Anyway I watched this video tonight and called him up and told him about it. He called me a hour later and said you found it, and he said that SOB finally runs! THANK YOU again for the video!!! YES IT HELPED!

      Thank You for the Video. I had my engine replaced back in Dec 2022. After getting the engine replaced, it started with the No crank No start situations. I'd taken it back to the mechanic who put the used engine in and he could not find anything wrong with it. I then took it to another mechanic and they could not find the problem and suggested that I take it to a GM dealership. At the GM dealership they replaced the Fusebox and tge Bcm. I the found your video and texted the mechanic and he then repaired the 8 ground connectors. I probably would still be working on this if not for your Video!!! Again, Thanks!!!

      @@Farristpthat is the same thing that happened to my friend! Except he is a mechanic and has been for years. All he did was replaced the timing gear and chain, and it ran for a short time, then nothing for a ling long time, until I helped him and found this video.

    Thank you my 09 enclave wouldn’t start I shook the cables to the fuse box and it started. The next day I shifted into reverse and it went into reverse and stalled restarted it and the same thing happened, I restarted later and it went into reverse and backed up normally. I saw your video and was convinced you found the solution. I also saw a comment on an enclave forum from a GM tech. Guy who said that this was a defect that GM tech’s knew about and he said he fixed most of these type of cars by simply doing this. Anyways I had my mechanic remove the fuse box and he found the ground was badly rusted he cleaned it up put it back together and success. All codes gone and the car runs better than ever.

    Thanks. Mine was loose. It's a 10mm bolt. Would have been nice if it had been a 13mm or 14mm instead. Having long arms helps to reach behind the cylinder head to access the bolt. I used a 5 to 6 inch long box wrench and felt around for the bolt and wire. When i first plugged in scan tool I found high voltage on Bank 1 Crankshaft Position Sensor. Then I started having intermittent no starts. Finally vehicle shut off as I was driving into the gas station one day and would not restart. Another scan of the vehicle showed the same results as yours. i used a test light at ECM fuses and Starter Relay and noticed how dim it was. That's when i knew I was dealing with a bad ground somewhere. Tightened the bolt to that ground cable and all is good.

    My 08 enclave would only click to start, I knew it was the relay since I had a dodge that did the same thing. Just got the relay today and bam it started right up. After 4 tries I knew it was fixed. Welp so I thought. I took off to buy dinner and the first thing I noticed the ac got hot then the gauges started bouncing like crazy. Then it didn’t really have power to drive. I got home and removed the good relay and disconnected the power cable to reset system. Put old relay and nothing, new relay and nothing. Saw your video and pulled the cable and it started with old relay then 5 miles out speed gauge was bouncing ac got hot again and made it home turned off and now lost all power again. What caused the gauges to bounce? Anyone else had this issue?

      @jr.roccafeller419  2 года назад +1

      I'm not sure Jasen, but if it is happening all on the same bank, it would be something I would check out. If you look online for your cars wiring schematic, you can trace back to where those coils are grounded. I wouldn't be surprised if it were in that bundle of wires I mention in the video, there are quite a few crimped together where its bolted to the engine there, and that crimp is so poor that it leads to corrosion and eventually looseness. Good luck.

      The first time I took it off from below, I used 28 inches of extensions with a swivel on the end. I rapped electrical tape on the swivel so it wouldn't move around a lot. When I installed it, I was able to get it back on from above with a 1/4 drive ratchet and deep socket, laying on top of the motor. Lots of cursing, and anger at such a stupid place to put a ground that controls so many things.

It winds to the back of the head and is held on with a 10mm bolt, if i remember correctly. It's a tight fit to get your hand there because the firewall is close to the motor. Hope that helps.

    I've had an issue with all kinds of things. Misfire in number 4 coil keeps going bad thought it was a bad coil. Replaced like 4 times. Code coming up for the fuel pressure sensor. I've been having surges driving when my speed goes to 40 to 50 mph. Problems with my AC blowing in the back of my 2008 Cadillac SRX 3.6. Door locking and opening issues. Well I thought I was having Alternator problems. Had a little smoke coming near the harness of wires near the back of the engine. Smelled electrical. Changed the original one out for remanufactured one. Thought the remanufactured one was bad. Drove it the Service Charging System light came on again. Had it checked said the Alternator was bad. So I got another one installed it a second time. Same thing happened driving it about 6 miles. Then I started looking in the wires for a bad ground and found the main ground and the covering on it had melted on the wires so I'm guessing here is my problem. I've been dealing with this all week hope this is the problem. I really do think it is. Let me know what you all think?
