I was just there in June. One of the highlights of Lisbon for me stunning place. I am a big lover of cemeteries and this was my first in Europe. I’m from Canada Love all the cats there. Thank you
I love these beautiful old cemeteries. They each have their own personality. The inside of the mausoleum are very interesting. I would like to look longer also. There s so may details to see. Great video!!
My grandmother was buried there in 1972, the next time I make it to Lisboa I am going to visit her. As for the airplanes, Prazeres along with Campo de Ourique, is under the flight path of the airport. Fortunately, that will change with the new airport coming on line in the next 10 years, south of the river Tejo, in Alcochete. Prazeres reminds me of Pere Lechaise in Paris. and the wonderful time I had there in 1981 trying to find Jim Morrison's gravesite.
@@1622i After a lot of trouble, indeed, I found Jim Morrison's grave with the help of a local policeman. That was 43 years ago, how time flies. A few years later, Morrison's grave was moved because all the monuments surrounding it, many of notable people, were being vandalized. Doors fans would overturn and paint arrows on the tombstones and on the cobblestones to indicate the direction leading to Jim Morrison. So Jim was moved to a more secluded place in the cemetery, where he remains to this day. Where his millions of fans can visit without disturbing the graves Victor Hugo and other French notables.
I'm Not a fan of cemetery's ..But i must admit this one it's absolutely Beautiful, however, some seems being forgotten long ago..Still beautiful thought!
Very nice. But you have to see the cemetery of Athens. Full of sculptures all grate works. And the flowers everywhere, seems like an exhibition of flowers.
Thank you so much! I checked out the photos, and it looks fascinating. I haven't been to the Greek mainland yet, only to a few islands. I'll definitely visit this cemetery when I go to Athens. Thanks again!
There is no unpleasant smell, and everything is the same as in a regular cemetery. In the crypts, only bones are buried in coffins, not the entire body. Each coffin contains a zinc capsule, so even if the outer shell is damaged, the remains are still protected. This is a very old cemetery, and some of the crypts have deteriorated, leaving coffins exposed to the elements.
This is a video of a historical and beautiful cemetery in Lisbon. If you are also interested in airplanes, I have a video about it on my channel. Enjoy watching!

@@1622i So there is an airport nearby? So no rest for the dead - like the Montparnasse cemetery in Paris where there are crypts right underneath the multi lane freeway that in (later times) has been built over and across it!

This actually is a beautiful cemetery, but some of the interiors look horrific 😳
Yes, there are abandoned crypts there, but for me, they add to the atmosphere.
Read "The Year of the Death of Ricardo Reish", beautiful novel by José Saramago, 1984.
He writes about Prazeres Cemetery as well. ❤
Thanks a lot! I'll definitely read it🙏

Venice symbolized Brodsky's European cultural identity, holding a place closer to his heart than the USA.
The most beautiful cemetry is in Genua Italy!!! Not here with broken windows and coffins!!!

Any evidence of ghosts in this cemetery?
