  • Fly Fishing has influenced myself to take this passion on as a career and elevate the challenge to a competitive level. To most people it is simply a means to escape the daily challenges of life...& covid. In this video I am joined by Jude Duran, who like myself has elevated this passion to the next level. Come along and enjoy a great day with us out on the water. #NMAKTIMAFLYFISHING #EURONYMPHING #FLYFISHING

Thanks for sharing. I grew up in the South Valley in Albuquerque NM fishing for anything that swam in the ditches. Guess it was instinctive to fish but fly fishing was a foreign concept. My Dad fly fished when I was a kid but when we would go to CO or Northern NM that was his therapy. I never got into Fly fishing until my late teens when I bought a Scientific Anglers set up. I moved to Seattle in my early 20s because there were only 2 roads out of here and they didn't lead anywhere. I frequented the fly shop asked questions and bought the cheapest equipment they sold because it was all I could afford. I became addicted to fly fishing for steelhead and listened to stories of the old timers tell stories of greaslined skating muddler minows and October caddis waked across the surface. Eventually I caught my first steelhead on that cheap Scientific Anglers combo with a game watching me fight it and eventually landing it with a barbless fly. It consumed me and I continued to go into the small fly shops and gained their trust with secret patterns here and there maybe a beer or 2 and eventually some good whiskey a quiver of Sage medium action rods an XP fast action. I graduated to the spey rod and steelhead numbers dwindled but I continued to swing days on end without a grab. Had some epic days only one close friend will ever know about. No IG selfies or hero pics. I was lucky to learn from the old timers like Aaron Reimer, Mike Kinney who invented Skagit style by splicing lines together and casting 14' broomsticks living in a house without electricity or running water. Pioneers like Jude who paid their dues and organically studied all the dynamics that is fly fishing. I always supported my small shops even though I didn't have the budget in my 20s. The fish gods will remember you where your money goes and the chingasos thrown on the river for breaking bottles or poaching fish. I've fished BC, Montana, North Cal etc. Looked forward to summers on my then homewaters in San Diego sight casting for spooky corbina in the surf or cruising leapord sharks. It's good to see fly fisherman/woman such as yourself who are passionate about the sport taking their wife and Dad (I presume) more excited to see them catch a fish instead of being on the camera. Jude who is obviously a pioneer in his own right and shares that same passion and humbleness. There will always be the DB ( D-bag not drift boat) who you want hit in the head with a cone head streamer. You just don't fish with them or people who use bobbers for steelhead 😁 j/k. Fly fishing is teaches many important lessons in life. No matter how bad ass of a fly fisherman you think you are are in your home waters "every man is the man in they own hood" It's good to get some humble pie all over your Pattagucci's every now and then 😁 Just means we're learning. Thanks for sharing! Good content 👍🌊

WOW ! Jude can talk more than me. Great bit about care for the fish. I am always thinking of the fishes well being when netting and returning. Keep them near to the water or in the water. No long periods out of water. Like 13 seconds. Steady and calm as not to spook the fish to much. Limited handling. Happy Days. Nice one Norm. Shaun. UK.

Nice interview. You picked someone who could talk, and had an interesting story, and you let him talk. In the fishing part you kept him in the video. Beautiful. Thanks.
