I’ve the Vivofit 2 for YEARS, and I’ve loved it. I pair it with the Garmin chest strap. Would you say the 3 is an improvement from the 2? I’m debating if I should upgrade or not. The 4 is a no go since it won’t sync with a chest strap. On the 2 you can hold down the button for it to backlight; can you do this with the 3? One thing I don’t like about my vivofit 2, even with the chest strap, is that is automatically logs all of my workouts as walking or jogging, but I mostly do cross training, HIIT, similar workouts. Since I use the strap, I’m able to get the calories burned; however, I’m wondering if you know of a fitness tracker in this price range that is better for someone who mostly does these type of workouts? Thank you in advance & thank you for your helpful videos!
how does it differentiate between walking as an activity vs what you would normally walk throughout the day (ie, getting up, going to the kitchen, etc..)?
+Valerie S if you are walking for an extended period of time (10 minutes straight for example) it assumes you are exercising, but if you are walking for just a minute or two and then stop, it assumes you're going through normal every day activities. You can also long press the button and it will enter into a workout mode and log whatever movements you are doing as a workout.
Hey Eric, thanks for your videos. I am following your channel now. Could you give me an advise on which device would be the best option for me? I normally do body weight exercises like 3-4 times a week (freeletics). And maybe some bike around the city not to take the car. So I was looking to monitor the daily activity, sleep, etc + that kind of workouts. As I have a FR305, I was thinking on the FR230, the vivofit3 or the vivosmart and use that chest strap to improve the accuracy. What do you think? Maybe other device will suit me better. Thanks in advance
+Rafael Dominguez the Vivofit 3 will be fine as long as you use the chest strap. Without the chest strap, it looses a lot of accuracy. The Vivosmart HR isn't a bad option, or the Vivosmart HR+ if you have more money and need GPS.
Hello, thanks for the review, can you tell me after some time how long the vivofit 3 battery could last if used in conjunction with the heart rate monitor with 1 hour training sessions to have the frequency under control during training? Thank you
Good Review. I am torn between Moov now, Fitbit charge 2 , Garmin Vivo fit 3 and Withings Activite Pop. Since you say it's not good for tracking pushup , CrossFit , strength training. I feel getting a longer battery is better than recharging often. Do you recommend Moov Now compared to all my shortlisted products? Most of them rate it better than most in the market. Thanks
+bharath yelavatti the Moov Now is really only good for steady state cardio like jogging and cycling. For crossfit you will be disappointed because it doesn't have a built-in heart rate sensor to track your heart rate, which is the most important metric to track for CrossFit.
Techy Agent So do you recommend an all rounder charge 2 ? As a good investment ? I have seen moov now can be connected to heart rate external straps ... but all those are too much and I am not hard core athletic . I want to track my basic daily activity , sleep analysis .... and something which motivate me to take steps towards active lifestyle. Thanks
I have another question. I'm torn between this on the Vivoactive HR.. I read that they are both Smart Bluetooth/ANT+ compatible. I recently pledged the Vi headphones by LifeBEAM on kickstarter, which are not ANT+ compatible but are smart bluetooth compatible. Will either/both of the Garmins work with it?
+Valerie S i'm not sure that they will. My understanding is that both of these fitness trackers have Bluetooth, but only so that they communicate with your phone, they are able to transmit the fitness and health metrics that it's collecting from the watch to the phone. That's the only function the Bluetooth can do. But they also each have ant+ which is used for pairing with a ant+ heart sensor.
I just got this today and as soon as I sinked everything and put it on my wrist I had about 150 steps just by walking up and down the stairs once, then it's like I sit down then I walk to the fridge and it would put on about 60 ish steps so I was just wondering if the step tracker is accurate or not
+Dominick Stahl make sure that you put it on your non-dominant hand. Also, it will tend to pick up movement on non-stepped based activities. For example, I've seen where playing the guitar can make it think I am going for a walk
If it only has 1 button how to you do the equivalent of hitting a enter button to activate the option once you have got it on the screen? Like how would you view the Calendar events or how many steps you have taken?
When I had brought mines, the calories where already set at 750 even though I didn't walk or do any kind of exercise with it the vivofit on. Is there a way to zero out the calories?
+C D not really. It gives you credit for calories based on your base metabolic rate, so even if you aren't wearing the band it will count calories. It does this because it wants to take into account the amount of calories your body burns even when you are not really doing anything other than breathing and resting.
I know itll track distance throughout the day, but lets say for two hours I want to play soccer and I want to know my miles for just those two hours withing the miles I did all day, can I do that?
Yes, you can start a workout manually, and it will track your steps, distance, calories, etc for that workout...which in your case would be playing soccer.
i got the vivofit 3 and a hrm tri, the heart rate do appear on the vivofit display but i cant download the heart rate data to my phone, can the vivofit 3 send heart rate data to my phone like the step or calo guys ? thank you for reading
+Greg Day it depends how you define better. For me, I personally like the looks of the Alta better, but the Vivofit 3 still wins for its durability and waterproof ability
Advantages of the Vivofit 3 over the Alta: waterproof, doesn't need charging, you can set an activity timer, can pair with a chest strap for heart rate monitoring, always on watch face, a physical button instead of irratic tapping of the screen. Advantages of the Alta: you can argue it's better looking, weak-ass notifications.
Yes, in the app but there's a bug. You have to choose split screen when you first install the app/make an account, it won't work to change it in the settings.
For a girl, you might want to change the bands. Also it pairs with the chest strap which is more accurate for some exercises. For me the Vivosmart Hr was 50 dollars more.
+Techy Agent It was so bad I ended up returning it and getting the Vivo fit 2. There are hundreds of people talking about this problem on the net. I wish I could have kept it because i bought a VF2 for my son and he never had a problem. That is why I ended up going for it instead of getting a fit bit which I've heard too many bad things.
Seems like the move iq doesn't work at all? Or do I need to do or press something? Probably garmin hasn't tested this product before releasing it! Damnit this would have been the greatest activity watch.
+hunterXenios, my personal experience. I testes two pedometers simultaneously, Fitbit one and Garmin Vivofit 3. Just by sitting at the table and waving my hands I hit a few hundred steps with Vivo.
I just stood in the middle of my room, spun my arm in a circle for 10 seconds (while wearing my VF3), and I was SHOCKED to learn that you are full of shit.
Great video. What wearable do you recommend like this one but with a built in heart monitor? Near this price point. Thanks

Raegan McAdams just go for Fitbit Charge 3, don’t care about Charge it has 5 days and do it over night and keep repeating it shouldn’t be pain

Techy Agent thx I was wondering the same thing this is so helpful and now I know thx
Have you try it for other features like swimming?
Does the band just completely die after 1 year or can you replace the battery or do you just have to get another one?
+Greg Day you can replace the battery with a watch style (coin cell) battery
Oh OK cool:)
i just bought this with the garmin premium soft strap . its my first fitness tracker, was it a good choice?
+daniel barrak yeah, Garmin is making some good fitness trackers. It's a good choice!
thanks for replying so fast. +1 subscriber
I just bought this fit bit 3..I've set it properly, etc. at sitting, when I look at steps, why do the steps change when I'm seated?
Sophia Bellas because it is loading
If it only has 1 button how to you do the equivalent of hitting a enter button to activate the option once you have got it on the screen? Like how would you view the Calendar events or how many steps you have taken?
+Dallas Dal it requires you to use the one button by doing quick presses to scroll through the menu and a long press to select something

Good Review! Will worked vivofit on h7 polar heart monitor ?
My watch counts steps by self, during I put it away, so when I don't care the watch. It's weird.
I really dont like it. Cant set alarms. Cant get it to save settings.
I give it a -20 out of 10.
Thinking about returning it
What is the name of the program

just got mine but I did pair but not seeing the red light on mine up top
How much is it?

Yes, it should be sending the heart rate data to the application once you are done working out or doing whatever activity you have recorded.
is it compatible with scosche rythm+? thank you.
Yes, it is.
Hi, is it possible to turn it off?? If yes how?? Thank you
+Elisa Campaci I imagine it is possible, but I never tried it, sorry
What is better in your opinion this or the fitbit alta?
+Greg Day it depends how you define better. For me, I personally like the looks of the Alta better, but the Vivofit 3 still wins for its durability and waterproof ability

Will this track steps on a treadmill or stationary bike?
Clayton Musgrove yea
Thank you for posting this. Could you tell I searched your channel yesterday for a review of this device? :)
+mjsolomon haha! It's a little late, but I was recovering from being sick so it took me a little longer.
I was wondering how u would clean it without messing it up
hi person n
Is that always on display?
Wahyu Ardani yea
Get Vivofit 4 now unless u want to pair it with a anti strap heart rate
Hi, Video very helpful, thank you. Can the screen split (split screen) so i can see time and steps at the same time.
+Theresa Thirion No, not that I am aware of
Yes, in the app but there's a bug. You have to choose split screen when you first install the app/make an account, it won't work to change it in the settings.
is the chest strap just called "garmin chest strap"?
How do I charge it??!!
what about notifications and alerts from your phone and all that?
+BboyJDA it doesn't have any smart alerts yet. No word from Garmin if they are coming in a firmware update.
+Techy Agent hardly seems worth it at the moment then, when for only 20 bucks more you can get the Vivosmart Hr
+BboyJDA that's a good point.
For a girl, you might want to change the bands. Also it pairs with the chest strap which is more accurate for some exercises. For me the Vivosmart Hr was 50 dollars more.
is it waterproof?
+James Tilden yes
is da vivo fit waterproof
+k sad yes, it is
Hi eric big big thank u for getting back to me re..vivo 3 have a good night xxx
Anyone else has the problem that reads running as walking. how to you fix this?
+Xavier Vel I haven't had this problem, has anyone else?
+Techy Agent It was so bad I ended up returning it and getting the Vivo fit 2. There are hundreds of people talking about this problem on the net. I wish I could have kept it because i bought a VF2 for my son and he never had a problem. That is why I ended up going for it instead of getting a fit bit which I've heard too many bad things.
i did. i was running and walking and it couldnt seem to differentiate
I love Garmin!
Xiaomi Mi band 2 crushes this..
the NOT the TARGET number of steps its how much MORE STEPS you NEED
i have it...it is basic but i love it
+david kelly yep, it gets the job done
yes... i like the light on it. and u dont need charge it up! and it being water resistant, shame the screen a tad too small.
Do a review on the new Xiaomi Mi Band 2 please
+Oznya yes, I'm hoping to get one soon
Sounds good! :D
Great video! Thank you.
+blackorchid76 thank for watching! 👍
*thanks
The VivoFit 3 can do your heart rate
+Sonia List yes, I can only do your heart rate if you pair it with an external heart rate sensor
*it
how can i track my mountain bike training ?
+JoProduction You could get the Garmin Vivoactive or Vivoactive HR. It has GPS and sports profiles for things like mountain bikes
So i cant track my distance like in other1 walking mode?
+JoProduction The Vivofit lineup does not include GPS, so it's not going to be great for tracking distance
Mine reads military time and i can’t change it!
Seems like the move iq doesn't work at all? Or do I need to do or press something? Probably garmin hasn't tested this product before releasing it! Damnit this would have been the greatest activity watch.
Eeeeww in my opinion that has a way to small screen!
Otherwise I like it
+Apple tech Pro yeah, it's weirdly small, don't know why they downsized
Garmin
Completely inaccurate. Just by spinning your wrist you can hit 300-400 steps. The best step counters are the one worn on the belt.
Mr.Sojek wtf who told you that
+hunterXenios, my personal experience. I testes two pedometers simultaneously, Fitbit one and Garmin Vivofit 3. Just by sitting at the table and waving my hands I hit a few hundred steps with Vivo.
Mr.Sojek
should i pick the fitbit charge 2
you are a great lier
I just stood in the middle of my room, spun my arm in a circle for 10 seconds (while wearing my VF3), and I was SHOCKED to learn that you are full of shit.
Mooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
