I HATE this grinding poverty-
To toil, and pinch, and borrow,

The spectre of to-morrow.

I hate the praise that Want has got
From preacher and from poet,
The cant of those who know it no
To blind the men who know it.

As always iam gathering main theme of poem and poet biography briefly here it’s poverty major theme is scathing indictment of hardships and misery it brings . Compared to his other works it’s characteristically blunt , evocative, capturing despair and frustration of those living in it grip . Henry Lawson ( 1867- 1922) he was Australian writer and poet, along with his contemporary banjo Paterson, his is among best known Australian poets and fiction writers of colonial period. He is often called Australian ( greatest short story writers ).

Dear sir Alex, i loved the poem. It reminds me of a line in one of those british spy movies that goes like this, " the fool thinks there is virtue in poverty" the name of the movie is a dandy in aspic.( don't know what they mean by aspic, googled it up but the answer did not fit the title). Anyways Alex just as much as i hate poverty, opulance revolts me. Firm believer in the middle class.
