- This is my buddies 2002 Ford lightning. He let me take it and do a review on it today and it was such an amazing truck. Super easy to drive and very fast.

A 650hp lightning cant get you in trouble real quick if your not careful. I have one and my uncle used to have one that made around 670hp. These trucks are heavy so you better make sure the steering wheel is pointed in the direction you wanna go when you stomp it with that much hp. They make a lot of torque down low so shit happens real quick!
Show build specs to get that much HP, I have a 2002 f150/Harley davidson
They are very light compared a full size truck the whole bed is fiberglass. Cool your uncle had one I have one and the reason they don’t stay straight is because of how light the bed is
Tell me about it... My 650HP L is totaled... Happened In Mexico. 650HP and the streets of Mexico is not a good combo.
@@alexgadson Built engine, a 2.3 whipple will do, 8lb lower pulley proper fuel system, and a full exhaust. Cooling mods always recommend. This is my current set up in my 02 HD. I just finished up the build so I'm not sure what I'll make. I'm aiming for +630

Everyone that really knows lighting knows you dont mess around with the shifter, unless your turning od on/off. Just let the truck do the shifting.

csr801996 it’s my lightning ...you can shift it like that, I always do. Was low in fuel and the gas sloshed in the tank...the truck fucking up had nothing to do with how he shifted it
@@ModernStreet101 I didnt say anything about the truck messing up. I was referring to it's a well known fact that on the 4r100 you increase the likelihood of breaking something in the trans by manually shifting it. Not only that but manually shifting will loose you races due to the fact higher horsepower trucks go through the gears so fast you are better off leaving it in drive.
csr801996 at the track yeah...leave it in drive, roll racing on the highway I drop it in gear. WOT downshifts actually do a lot more wear and tear in a trans than people think. If it blows up I’ll build one idc

Why do you keep saying "Work Truck"? The lightning was anything but a work truck.. Suspension from factory was stiffer and lower, seats ,gear ration,engine ect....

John Henderson it’s my truck...I always race it that why the trans LOVES it...there wasn’t any gas in the truck he floored it and it sloshed. Had nothing to do with how he shifted it...
@@ModernStreet101 I know I'm just saying those transmissions dont like to be manually shifted. It's just the design of the trans, same transmission in the power strokes and work trucks. Not for high performance.
John Henderson when they are built they take 1000hp just fine...they were intended for the 6.0/7.3 trucks but it turns out they are actually really good for racing and hold up well when built.
@@ModernStreet101 if your lightning makes 1000hp it likely it will make over 1000lbs of torque. That trans wont be around long.
@@ModernStreet101 How much horse power can these transmissions take before they need to be built. I have a built motor, upgraded ported heads and one pulley smaller then stock.

God damn this is by far one of the sickest 2nd gen lightning exhaust sound ever and thats coming from a lightning owner itself. Let me tell you lightnings aren't nothing like f150s bro everything on them is modified from the suspension bushings to brakes, motor, and trans aint no f150 here bro Mines is the 1st year of the 2nd gen lightning got full exhaust on mine JBAshort tube headers hi-flow cats with dual 3" super 40ty flowmasters ending on twin magna flow stainless steel tips. 👌👍🤙✌️

@@juanmiranda807 I use to laugh would see my brother in law do this in his srt10 truck. He was shifting his auto transmission at the track and his transmission blew. He was like man something is wrong with my truck, I knew they fucked it up when they worked on it. Lol umm no you just blew it up trying to shift it at the track.

Was afraid I might hate it but nope the whine is perfect. OEM rims are not black. My 2003 red one. Yours is louder than I would like. "Have to pedal it" how does it not impress the Hell out of you. Security guards Galveston TX child burn hospital they just said okay and let me really perfect my Tokyo drifting at 3:30am. Most empty parking garage so I took advantage. Best vehicle ever made. Mr Red Rocket is 18 years old not selling. If you get an even abused one you can actually tune it and make it faster. Best purchase of my life.

ive put my lightning up for sale a lot of times, i just cant sell it because its a beautiful truck and very fun to drive! Perfect dailys and very quick for a pick up truck. The whine gets you everytime!!

I have one fully built bottom top making 600tq on stock blower only 11 psi of boost
To the tire? I'm having issues with a customers truck right now. Fully built with trick flow 185cc heads 44cc chambers and stage 3 ported eaton blower with billet rotors. Pullied up to 15 psi, no cats, equal length headers. What I did is Turkey pan mod, evap delete, egr delete and pcv delete and now it has no low end power. Possibly leaking blower gaskets? I replaced the intake base gaskets with metal ones. No vacumm leaks either. Only made 420 wheel.... is it the tuner guy? Customer isn't happy

How can I make my stock lightning to get up to 420 or 450 HP?
Cold air intake, cathback exhaust(magnaflow) 6lbs to 8lbs lower pullie and a good dyno tune. And if your not satisfied with that then you can do a stage 3 blower port or just swap it for a Kenne-bell or whipple at 13#-15# boost(with support mods of course!)
450 HP.. No problem. smaller blower pulley, bigger fuel injectors, bigger fuel pump/regulator, high flowing exhaust & air filter and a performance tune.

@@brianwenzel8791 to get to 450 wheel you're gonna need a ported blower too a fbo truck normally does around 400/500 to the wheels with fbo with a non ported blower. Or you can do ported heads and cams and get up there but that is getting around the power level where the stock rods dont like it.
Just FYI. Those brakes are bigger than stock 1/2 ton brakes. Their actually 3/4 ton big brakes. Their awesome trucks. Not basic work trucks.

It didn’t get near that bad. I think it got like 15mpg probably if you were good

scat pack 1..2...Drive. Truck was low on gas and is sloshed in the tank causing that. The mess up had nothing to do with how he shifted it...it’s my truck

LOVE the truck but don't like the gas mileage... a nice V-6/small block V-8 in it I would buy it...don't need that much power..speed limit here in the city is 25-35 where I do most driving...love the look and styling
If gas milage is one of your main considerations but speed isn't the lightning is the wrong truck to be looking at. It's like total opposite of that lol. This is a hot rod.

Luv the truck!. I have an 01 that I bought brand new. I’m not sure about built motor lightnings, but stock 5.4 Lightnings, most people whom drag race them turn the overdrive off, leave it in drive & ease into the gas from a dead 🛑 stop. 12.95 quarter mile for me on hankook ventus tires.
