    4:25 Now that has got to be a great tip. Manual rise and fall. I made a steam bender from PVC two years ago, but it started to melt. I was bending 1 x 2 and bigger. I then made one from wood, and had reasonable success and I made the slips to hold in the glass in the round windows. Steeped them in water for a half day before steaming. Mahogany does not really like to be bent. I think oak is one of the best. Love the plugs being proud of the shelf. Stay safe

    • @TheGrantAlexander
      @TheGrantAlexander  4 года назад +1

      Thanks Pascal, the manual rise and fall is what makes it a real poor man's spindle sander. Good to know about the PVC melting I'll make sure to take that into consideration for the next iteration of the steam generator. I'm planning on building toboggan for my son for next winter and I already bought the Ash wood I'm going to use. The plugs are proud so that i can remove the sheriff if I ever want to paint the wall, but it's also a nice design feature ☺️ Thanks for watching 👍🍻

      @@TheGrantAlexander I am now subscribed to your channel Grant but maybe on false pretences, I enjoyed some woodworking but my workshop had to reduce dramatically in size and my health reduced in quality, I now enjoy binding the odd book and having fun with calligraphy and whatever takes my fancy, I am ancient of days and I let the modern world go by. Self isolation is not much change for me, I subscribe to Dirk and Chris's channels and enjoy seeing how people create. I feel I should have projects on the go to subscribe to creative channels though - internet etiquette is not instinctive to me! My sons enjoyed my workshop when I showed them - now with the digital world they show me! By the way, on the canals in the uk in the heavy industrial era when two narrow boat owners both needed to use a lock at the same time the competition was decided by shin kicking - the loser shouted "Sufficient" and the winner used the lock. I have heard that shin pads used by sportsmen originated from the protection used by bargemen! Your useless fact for the day!

    looks great, love the steam bending. do you think steam bending is something you would like to do again?

    • @TheGrantAlexander
      @TheGrantAlexander  4 года назад +1

      Thanks Adam, I do plan on more steam bending in the future. I'd really like to make a toboggan and a pair of traditional styled snow shoes. And I'm sure there are other things that could use some bent wood! Appreciate you watching and commenting and thanks for putting together the Coat Rack Collab playlist 👍🍻
