@@heavenlypath1065 Yeah I gotta agree, while I absolutely love Donnie Yen and have for years, he's almost 60, and while he looks amazing for his age, he should play one of the senior Triad members in Sleeping Dogs, and not Wei Shen himself at this point.
TheSparklyWriter _ In a one on one fight, unless your opponent or yourself has incredible striking and takedown defense, the one who dominates the floor typically wins the fight.
Before Donnie Yen made movies, he was an underground MMA fighter (before MMA became legal). He was a trailblazer during his younger years. He joined the Boston Combat Zone back then when he was in the US. His parents had to send him back to China and Hong Kong because of his undisciplined attitude towards martial arts (always trying to pick fights). Along the way, he took up karate, wushu, wudang quan (influenced by her mother), taekwando, boxing, kick boxing, wing chun, jeet kune do, hapkido, muay thai, judo, jiu-jitsu and even wrestling. He's specialty is wushu, wudang quan, taekwando and kick boxing where he earned the highest degree level. No wonder his a bad-ass fighter. It's sad now because he already had multiple injuries and his already 52 years old. If he was younger like in his late 20s or early 30s and joined MMA or UFC, he would have kicked so many assess!
Donnie Yens fight scenes are so realistic to real fights sometimes it looks pretty but it can be a messy brawl and scrambling on the floor but he still makes it look so COOL!!!!
Harte Septian None of these fight scenes are realistic. You call receiving heavy blows on every part of the body several times and keeping on fighting for 10 min realistic? At least some of the fight scenes in this video are less exaggerated and more believable
The raid is not realistic. Special ID is quite realistic. Raid just has no flips and all that, but the techniques used in Special ID has been proven to work time and time again.
donnie yen is really adapting and evolving with the times... So many MMA/practical stuff in these scenes. It's quite amazing. I've heard that he's been training in MMA ever since it started to gain track and BJJ even before that. A true martial artist that never stops learning. Go Donnie Yen.
Yes he is following in Bruce Lee's footsteps. Because Bruce was the first to incorporate many styles, including grappling into his art called Jeet-Kun-Do. He even demonstrated some of that in Enter the dragon against a younger Samo Hung. Opening scene
1:26 in this scene here, Donnie is staying on the ground while kicking the antagonist who was standing up. The antagonist yelled at him “get up”, while Donnie Yen told him to “come down”. This is a reference to a famous match between Muhammad Ali and the wrestler Antonio Inoki. Inoki stayed on the ground the entire time, while Ali couldn’t do anything about it except angrily telling him to “get up”.

This film is Sleeping dogs with just another name over it, I mean look at the way the fights performed and acted out....It's Sleeping dogs alright, the freestyle Japanese and Chinese fights are always the quickest ones. If you haven't seen any of "The Raid" films then I suggest you do
*News flash* Sleeping Dogs is a homage to classic HK action cinema --- particularly the cinematography/lighting of many of these films. Wei Shen and his fighting style is actually based on Donnie Yen's character in SPL and Flash Point.

Marissa-sue Rattansingh Watch any kung fu film with Yuen Biao, Yuen Wah, Hsiao Hou. These guys pioneered martial arts tricking you see Scott Adkins and Jaa do in their films. But beside that, Jaa's style of Thai martial arts is unique and deserves credit for bringing something fresh in the game

It's always entertaining to see Donnie fight. But, why weren't the thugs throwing knives or attack together and instead, they waited patiently for their turn?
