To follow up on my question from earlier, the circuit board film has a greenish tint to it. That results in the green panel tint from standard factory/incandescent bulbs. Just wanted to post this in case anyone else has that same question. Thanks again for the teardown/how-to!
Awesome video! I bought a used 1998 Expedition and none of the cluster bulbs are working and I didn't want to try and figure out how to disassemble the dash on my own. Your video is very clear and concise and has great pointers. Thank you!
Just bought an 1998 f150. All my dash lights are out. So im thinking its a fuse... because in my head no way that many bulbs all go out at once. Reading your comment your saying every bulb was bad when you got the used expedition? I know its been some years hope my comment reaches you

LEDs mode that I have done have the potential to be lit in only one direction so be careful of this.. it is not just a plug and play. So if some of the bulbs do not lite up. Dont worry to much. Just reverse them. Take them out and turn them 180 degrees and the lite should now work

I have a 2000 Ford F-150. I am replacing the instrument cluster lights with blue T-5 LED bulbs. The T-5 LED bulbs are polarity. When I install a LED bulb in the high beam indicator, I only get the LED to light up when I pull back on the left side turn-signal stalk or lever. When I push the stalk forward toward the dash so that the high beams are on all of the time and also for the high beam indicator light bulb to stay on all the time, I get no LED light at all. When I reverse the LED bulb polarity, I get no high beam indicator light at all in either direction. Does your T-5 LED bulb for your high beam indicator light up in both directions, forward for full time high beam or reverse (towards you) just to flash oncoming cars to warn them of a cop up ahead or whatever? I'm thinking I may have to use an LED bulb that is non-polarity, works in both directions like the factory original bulbs. But I do not see for sell on Amazon or EBay to where you can buy only one LED T-5 bulb that is non-polarity. Let me know on your truck if your high beam indicator light works in both directions (forward and aft or reverse). Thank You!!

Black Mickey, you made this video almost two years ago, so I was wondering if the LED's are all still working? After having them for a couple of years now, are you still satisfied with the way they look in your dash?

The green tint is caused by the very thin electronic board. I imagine that there are different tints, but I am not sure on that. With your LEDs that should change the tint since they are bright enough. I also bought blue since it matched my stereo color.

Yeah , a lot of work . Just did mine on a 98 f 150 pickup ,no more just reaching behind the dash like back in the 50s or 60s pulling the bulb out and putting a new one in. Haynes truck manuel has good instructions if you can find one that old.

Seems like you removed more then you need to. But thanks for the video. Also, when I took mine out I used Meguire's ultimate compound to polish the scratches. Two problems worth noting. The warning lights deteriorated quite a bit. Also LEDs aren't dimmable, so be warned.

Nice video, but you have 1 led not working at the fuel guage, you just need to turn it 180° degrees and put it back, then it should work.
Ah yes, thank you. I must have over looked that during the edit.
You welcome bro.
Nice a lot of work though
Yeah , a lot of work . Just did mine on a 98 f 150 pickup ,no more just reaching behind the dash like back in the 50s or 60s pulling the bulb out and putting a new one in. Haynes truck manuel has good instructions if you can find one that old.
Does this work on 97 expedition ?
Yes same dash panel
can you still dim them ? and i think i would have used different color for the warning lights
Yes you can dim them.
Black Mickey hey I wasn't sure if you would still be active on this video but since you have commented , what number or what type of LED lights were they ? And where did you buy them ? I'm looking to change them on my truck thanks
I bought both types on eBay.
1) 10PCS Blue T10 5050 5SMD LED Car Light Wedge Lamp Bulbs Super Bright DC12V
2)10x T5 3-SMD Blue Instrument Panel Cluster Dash LED Bulb Light Lamp 74 70 37 17
Black Mickey thank you I'm most likely going to do this
I did changed it to blue lights but still green uhuh how that? Have to remove the paper of the green or what?
Juan Ruiz good question
Did you figure out how to remove the green film?
“Run” is the position before start, and those are incandescent bulbs, not halogens!!!
how did you get steering wheel cover off ?
Bob Haddock All I needed to do was pull up firmly on the cover and it popped off upward.
Videos pretty informative but the music is distracting shouldn't be any music
Background is very distracting and gets annoying quickly
thank you sir
Dohvakriid No problem! Thanks for watching!
what size bulbs were they?
Small ones are T5 and big ones are T10 I believe. Bought them in packs of 10 on eBay.
yo tengo una 1997 ford f250 que focos yeba en El tablero si mepuedes desir place
Seems like you removed more then you need to. But thanks for the video. Also, when I took mine out I used Meguire's ultimate compound to polish the scratches. Two problems worth noting. The warning lights deteriorated quite a bit. Also LEDs aren't dimmable, so be warned.
hanksgavin are you smoking crack ?
Havent seen an LED that isnt dimmable...
Sin of Wrath people are dumb as hell
Did you have to take off that green tint behind the gauges within the cluster?
Chris Hoolahan No I did not
So all you did was put in the blue bulbs and you are good to go? And what if I only replace the black mobs in the back with blue LED and now the small tan ones what would happen?
Chris Hoolahan Yes I literally took out the halogen bulbs and put in the LEDs. They can be whatever color you would like.
What if I only change the T10 bulbs to LED and leave the T5 bulbs halogens. What would happen?
Chris Hoolahan I replaced all mine at the same time. I believe they all should still work fine no matter which you replace. They are just lights nothing more :)
So did u only change the t10 bulbs
I changed both the T10 and T5 bulbs.
the fucking music dude seriously
Bro how did they preform no flashing or such after 1 year
Great video, thanks bro
Hey how did the blue look in person ? Was it a nice blue or was it purplish like in the video ?
Xxthe_best_mwxX To me it's a nice blue (not too bright and not too dark). I chose blue since it matches my interior lights and radio display.
Black Mickey alright cool the leds are on their way I'm gonna try & install this with my dad this week oh and also I only ordered the 10 T5 leds, those only work for the speedometer right ?
Xxthe_best_mwxX Keep in mind it does take some time to install. I don't exactly remember the exact placement of the different lights but that sounds right. I took mine apart to see how many of each led I needed.
Black Mickey okay since I only ordered those type of leds are they only for the speedometer or can I use them for the other bulbs (ex like the fuel gauge)
Hey I think I have the wrong LED lights for the speedometer mine are much smaller and don't have the blue casing around it and the extra light pointing up. I put them on right now and they look green(I limited the sunlight around the windows and made it darker) should I wait till darker to see them ? But I ordered these- 10x T5 3-SMD Instrument Panel Cluster Dash Ultra Blue LED Bulb Light Lamp 74 70 37 17 from amazon
Are you in CO?
Would this work on 01 xl?
mike nelson yes
Real fkn nice,, gonna try this on my 2000 5.4🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠
OK, I replaced mine and now on the left side of the mph gage isn't getting light to the numbers.
moped jankins Try flipping the contact points around. That seemed to work for me.
Good point. Let me get to the cluster again. I put those Sylvania LEDs from auto zone (10 dollars per bulb) because there so bright. And I also had them in other projects
moped jankins Ok. I would make sure every light is working before you put everything back. Same thing happened with one of my turn signals and had to take apart the dash again.
OK I found out that the bulb in question isn't working just right. It likes to be touchy with the contacts. So I swapped it out with a different led. Now it works but on the top of the gauge isn't fully lit around the 50-60.
OK I figured everything out. :)
Gonna try this with Red LEDs Thanks👍🏼
You forgot to say what size the small bulbs are.
T5
