Just cleaned up the speedometer board on my '92 4runner and got it working right, whereas before the speed wasn't showing until the speedometer warmed up. My capacitors weren't popped, but at the end I noticed the smaller one had leaked some of the gel out the bottom. This is probably similar to an issue on the board of a '92 3000gt, where it was known that the capacitors would start leaking over time (when depended on temperatures and humidity), and mess up the board. Since I didn't have new capacitors on hand I didn't replace the Toyota ones, and cleaning up the board with isopropyl (just like in your second video) got it working again. Thanks for the video!
I am having a problem with my speedo . They were gonna charge me over 300euro to get me a new one. Or above 100 euro to fix my old one. This really helps. Capacitors just cost cents and some patience to replace. I owe you a beer.
don't forget to check the big solder joints on the board, the highest ones on the board that stick up off the board and secure the speedo mechanism to the board, mine were cracked as shown in my video and causing the speedo to act wonky. let me know if you get it figured out, id be curious to know it gets working for ya, watch "hilux speedo2 FIXED"
I’m 21 and just got my first hilux 1993 carby space cab and I’m not the most amazing when it comes to fixing/servicing cars but I know a fair bit My speedometer and odometer are not working, this looks pretty tricky rly hope I got this would love if I knew you to help lol thanks for the video
I have a 94 Toyota pickup that the speedometer is toast on. I believe that the capacitors are shot. How did you go about testing to find that your capacitors were shot? Or did you just visually inspect it?
That is to reset the 100,000 km diesel timing belt change light, once it illuminated at 100,000 km and after you change the belt you reset the countdown with that button for the next 100,000 km
Found circuit board cooked near 100uf capacitor outer leg. All the coating on copper dark coloured and flaking off. Prior to failure a new battery was installed and noted voltage reg was clicking lots at idle. Volts at battery 14.5 to 14.9 so may have been cause. To be fixed...
Hi Walter, do the two capacitors need to be the same voltage? My local shop didn't have a 10uf 25volt so I got a 10uf 50v and a 100uf 25v. Put them in and speedo still runs 15mph slower than actual speed. Thanks!! John
did you watch my repair part II, there was actually crack in the solder board I had to repair and that finally fixed the issue. In answer to your question, No, they dont have to be the same voltage, the higher the voltage the physically bigger the cap is and at some point it gets hard to fit on the board
James Taylor, my speedo circuit board was cooked so I had to buy a new dash cluster and swap the circuit boards, had to find one with similar kilometers on the odometer and then pay the difference on road user charge tax.

Hello buddy, what is that second little button for? Opposite to the trip reset button? Thank you

Hi, my 94 hilux surf has no speedo, its stuck on 0, would replacing those 2 capacitors do the trick?
I have the same issue, did you manage to get it fixed?
