The biggest thing for me personally is that if they keep the pick, you take the highest ceiling player. The reason is because you fill the roster out in the offseason instead of relying on a rookie to do something special. Slowly develop that player and watch him grow

Dalton Knect is better than Reed Shepherd. Damn the age. 6'6 3 level scoring SG/SF. Is the best off ball player in the draft and is athletic? Not a stand of Ivey either. I'm a stand of telling the truth and objectivity.

Didn't you people say we need a defensive center?? Or a stretch 4 actually. If another guard is chosen this year it sends the wrong message.
I'm not looking for someone with terrible defense. Knetch even being discussed as a top ten pick speaks to how weak this class truly is.

Reed Shephard is Pritchard 2.0 with slightly better defense. Hard pass. Fun fact Cade and Ivey's Defensive rating is exactly identical. That's what I've talking about this miss information routinely comes out.

The team with Aussar's twin brother probably will take Reed Sheppard first.
I think Ben undersold a bit of Sheppard's upside potential, basically he put up completely unprecedented stats for a freshman this year, with efficiency that only pure dunking bigs tend to put up, and the tape looks like he can be a point guard eventually. and also, he had crazy steals and even block numbers, so while he's not a perfect defender he'll probably not just be a rag doll people target.
Yes, your always a bit cringy with smaller guards who doesn't just have completely insane athletcism (Rose / Iverson / Morant ) , but we've seen those type of guys sometimes ending up as one-two time all-stars or even more.
Still, I also don't think Sheppard is like a great fit with this current group of Pistons either, granted the problem might be that there is just no good fit unless it's some sort of perfect wing that is also a great shooter (if such players are around and it's obvious they're usually top 2 pick types though, Risacher is probably the closest approximation but even he's probably not totally there.)
I think they might want to trade down a little bit to like 8 or something, where probably one of Knecht / Mattis will still be there, if they can weasel a future pick or just generally smooth out their roster a bit in the process as well that would be good.

Trajan Langdon type players are Ron Holland, Cody Williams
Those two are extremely different prospects.

Ku has gotten some calls wrong such as Hayes. However he was constantly saying the same thing about killian:s upside.
He didn't change from Hayes to Ivey, but rather he changed his opinion about Ivey this spring.

If we draft a guy that's not ready that puts a lot of pressure on the front office to get good free agents. If we draft a guy that can actually play then we have a little more flexibility in few agency.
I think Cade, Ausar, and Duren is enough upside. We need more good players and they better be able to shoot. If we can trade down and draft Dalton later, I wouldn't be mad at that. There are so many holes in each player that i don't want to pick at 5 at all but if I'm forced to, give me Clingan. Duren can learn how to play defense and be the backup. Clingan's passing will help unlock minimize Ausar's awful shooting. We'd still need more shooting after that pick.
I wish I had that level of confidence in Duren learning how to play defense, but he might remain a shitty player forever.
I'm not mad if we pick swapped with the Blazers and got Jerami back. And then with the 14th pick (if we got 7 this would be different) take Ke'lel Ware or Tyler Smith if he's still there. Or hell, do the Edey gamble if you can see him becoming Brook Lopez lite.

Again Piston fans, we can easily keep our top 6 young players including Fettecheno....then use 5th pick for a rim protector to share time with our starting center...whether he starts or used as a back up. Use our money to bring in good veterans; thus giving Monte finally good bodies to coach

I don't see the upside of Clingan. I would rather draft Ware who has the potential to be a stretch center with versatile defense.

Buzelis if Trey can bring in his people to develop him like he did with Herb and Murphy. Knect if you want the best movement shooter who can immediately contribute. Clingan if you want to replicate Dallas Lively/Gafford setup or you're out on Duren (insane to give up on him now, but if we take Clingan, I'd at least understand it if not love it)

Castle is literally a smaller Ausar & how many more bricks can we get from a wing?? A fair point can also be said for Buzelis, but he's shown he can shoot before + that G league team was so trash
Shepherd is Payton Pritchard at the NBA level - good bench player but doubt he'll get his shot off against NBA-calibre athletes/size + will get targeted on D repeatedly. Not someone I'd want at #5

If you want shooting Shepard is the guy if he falls. Or get Ware, probably by trading back a few spots. Ware is likely available at pick ten so we could do a deal with a team looking to move up a few spots.
Buzelis is 6"10 and Castle is 6"5. Again, if we didn't have Ausar I'd be more interested in Castle but having both doesn't make any sense when they're the exact same player. It's more a fit issue than talent comparison

Reed is a much more complete player as a teen.
I have Shepard third with Castle at a close fourth. After them Im not fond of the other options. I would prefer to trade back a few spots for Kel'el Ware even if the return is bad. Pick 9 should be high enough for Ware.
@@pheralanpathfinder4897 Sheppard is a slightly safer pick forsure but Knecht has the tools to improve his defense he just had a huge offensive load and step up in competition so he might just need more high level experience. He is significantly bigger and more of an athletic force than Sheppard (29 dunks vs 5) and was 5’8 as a sophomore in high school and kept growing for years he’s a late bloomer which explains a bit why he burst on the scene so late but I don’t think it limits his ceiling a ton since he has the 3 level scoring profile and athletic tools to be a borderline star if everything goes right
Better defense, passing, and 3% while three years younger. I don't see the argument in favor of Knetch.
But athletes often get drafted high in the hopes they learn to play. In Dalton's case I don't think he will be good enough on defense.

This guy doesn't know anything about Dalton, Dalton will be a much better player than Reid will be. If the Pistons choose Reid over Dalton, it'll be as bad as Atlanta taking Trey over Luka! More often than not, when skills are very comparable, the bigger player is the best choice.

Statistically guys as old as Knetch don't improve as much as a teen like Reed. Plus Shepard is already a sniper with solid defense. Will Knetch need a couple years in the G to learn defense?

I disagree with all these “experts” Zach Eddney will make a greater contribution to winning than most of these prospects, I would love to see him rotating with Jalen Duren,giving the Pistons the much needed shot blocker,rebounder and consistent half court shot creator….. I think he’s the quickest option to getting the Pistons into the playoffs

Zach might be a NBA rotation player, but at pick five we should be drafting for potential.
If you want a bold option try looking into Kel'el Ware. Long, athletic, and can shoot the three. That's the model center of the future. Under the rim centers have been devalued in the modern NBA.

Zach Eddney is the best answer for the problem that the Pistons have, he’s a shot blocker enforcer controlling the paint, strong rebounder, we need that in Detroit to matchup with Pozingus,Emblid, and Giannis… Eddney is the most impactful player available, the Pistons would push for the playoffs next year rotating Eddney and a well rested Duren

That's not true at all, Allen is a really real athlete and a better NBA player than Knecht is likely to become.

Yes, of course he is. Better stats as a freshman than Sasser had as a very old senior! Better athlete too.
Reed is a better 3% as a Freshman compared to Sasser as a senior.
They could have a similar performance next season but when looking at upside Reed is a much better prospect.

You need to look at Dalton’s video. He’s operationally ready to perform. He remains me of a player that helped put the Pistons on the map. Kelly Tripucka was a 4-year college player that came in going toe-to-toe with the likes of Dr. J, Dominique Wilkins, Bird, and Bernard King.
Kelly could EASILY get 30, 40, or even 50 points every night. His performances put the franchise on the roadmap to relevance.
If Dalton is available and you want instant offense, take him.
Dalton will also give up 30, 40, 50 to NBA players.
@@cordelldemattei5446 You’re missing the point. As a complementary asset to Isiah, KT put the Pistons on the map. Did he struggle on defense? Yes, but did he go toe-to-toe with some of the greatest SF’s to play the game? Did he help make the Pistons playoff bound?, he certainly did.
The beauty of getting an operationally ready player is the results are instantaneous. If you don’t believe it, go back and look at KT’s first few years. His statistics were surprisingly off the charts.

Monty almost completely misused every player on the roster last season and somehow still has a job. the team you mention didn’t turn it around until Daly started coaching, they also had many more pieces than just the two you mention, plus way better defense.
Rasheed Wallace, Mark Aguirre, Adrian Dantley had a post up game that gave us a very high efficiency scoring rate in the paint. They could shoot threes as well. That's the type of player that we need
Very few teams run post up plays unless they have a mismatch. Scoring efficiency is all about spacing.
Your view of what works in the NBA is decades behind where the league actually is.
Spacing is the most important thing in the NBA, and post up guys don’t matter at all unless they’re superstars (Jokic, Embiid).
