This all feels like beating around the bush, like an insider that must follow the general rules of his job, but doesn’t sound very confident that Monty will be around. This is a good sign to me, I want Monty outta here!
totally agree with james on ivey and duren getting reduced minutes for now and get monk and claxton. that's what exactly what i'm thinking. im only moving those guys if we are clearly winning the trade.
Completely agree, if you have all the young guys playing lots of minutes how are you expecting anything more than 20 wins.
I don’t think there is any rush to get a coach. Honestly take their time there will ALWAYS be a few qualified nice candidates out there looking for a HC job.
And fans way overestimate how involved coaches are in roster building and drafting or even just the off season.
All is expected of the coach is to be transparent and in lockstep with the direction of those above them and be liked by the players on the team.
Like if the coach does not the guy the front office likes (draft, trade, or FA), then that coach won’t have a job much longer.
Finally a good take in ivey and duren. All that makes perfect sense

I’m not the experts, those guys are. But for 30 mins, I heard a lot of talking, but no clear solutions. Maybe the Pistons are such a mess, it’s making everyone look clueless.
One of the more valuable assets moving forward in the new CBA will be the return on investment, for the players signed at the 15-25Mil range. If Duran and Ivy are given rookie extensions but their market value dips because they are coming off the bench next season, it’s fair to assume that they receive something in that range. They would be approaching their prime in their second contract, and by then could potentially be starters again for the Pistons. That’s probably why we are hearing rumors about Monk and Claxton and will most likely be targeting in FA. If we can trade one of them (Ivy or Duran) plus #5 for Ingram this off season then of course you do it. But otherwise, let’s build some depth and help develop these young kids the right way.

I feel as if we’ll try to do a bit of a roster overhaul, try to sign Cade to a Max and begin the season w/Monty…if he at any point goes on a ridiculous losing streak, I think he gets removed

This is rock bottom Pistons. Trajan can have his vision, but his ability to execute it relies on a set of variables that are not always in his control. It's better to hire a coach that knows exactly what he has to work with

Thanks, James, for setting Ku straight. The Pistons don't need to get rid of the young guys even if they pick up players in free agency. It's called building a team. Unfortunately, Ku hasn't watched enough Pistons basketball over the decades. This young generation are like a microwave, they need everything to happen instantly. They don't give players time to develop. The only great Pistons player that was a star from the start was Isiah. All others had to grind and develop even if they came from other teams. Most teams that win a ring, the star player usually doesn't win until year 6 or 7 unless he had a great supporting cast. I.e the Lakers and Celtics of the 80s. If you can find a team that won a ring and the star on the team wasn't in year 6 or 7 since 1980 please tell me. Go check it out.

I like what JE3 is saying, sign some vets blend it. Look at what Houston did for reference.
I go back and forth on trading some of the young talent. Currently, I am thinking keeping the young talent on the roster. Draft at 5, and just sign free agents. I could see some teams wanting to involve the pistons because of their cap space situations and giving them a solid vet/draft sweetener to swallow the contract. Maybe I’m just optimistic on the youngsters, but giving up on year 2 guys typically doesn’t go well lol
I disagree with JE III that we’ve seen what the young guys can do the last two years. We didn’t have Cade one year and we had Monty the other. We have no idea what these young guys can do when well coached.

James is one of the very few guys that speaks quite objectively, leaving out any bias, personal preferences etc. That's why he's a pro.

The locked on 30min up restriction is pretty stupid
I'm not sure keeping Duren is a real option if they sign Claxton.
If you're paying Claxton $25-30m/year thats not a 24-26 minute guy. And he's 24 so its not like Duren can replace him eventually like if you signed Valanciunas.
And you're not going to pay Duren $20m+ to be a backup. That's just bad resouce allocation. So you should trade Duren before you tank his value by benching him. Plus it creates an uncomfortable dynamic in the locker room to keep Duren after he is demoted.
With Ivey, if you only bring in one veteran guard that's fine. There are enough minutes and hopefully they can craft a more defined role for him in that scenario.
I feel like you constantly just looking for a scapegoat in Ivey... makes no sense in his 2nd yr. He improved down the stretch pretty well and had some big games this year. Then also, saying he's bad defensively isn't a good take. He's avg at least. This is a classic "I didn't like him when we drafted him so get rid of him."
The pistons r just trying to lower/negotiate with Monty to lower buyout amount. The problem is Monty wants all his money and probably woke get another job during the duration of the contract so there is no offset for the pistons. Only way I see him coming back is if owner doesn’t want to swallow the contract.
My problem is too many cooks in the kitchen. The other thing is how the pistons are firing everybody but it’s framed as the new guy is doing the firing. Know bringing in a new guy is firing everyone.

If we can trade the 5th pick, Duran, and Ivey for Lauri Markkanen then re-sign Simone Fontecchio, and Claxton, Monk, and Gary Harris in free agency I GURANSHEED we'll be playing the Celtics in the ECF next season.
I don't think Monty is going anywhere. Troy didn't make any improvements to the trash team the year before. He brought in Monte Morris and Joe Harris like that was going to be a factor. That team was doomed. We had Killian, Kevin Knox, Beef Stew and Isiah Livers in our starting lineup at times. All trash. Monty is about to get a pass.

The idea that coaching doesn’t need to be in place until summer league is crazy and dysfunctional if the Pistons really believe that.
They definitely need a coach/gm to be in place by the draft. It would be a bad look if they drafted without coach input
I am not sure how many teams really care what the coach thinks for who they draft unless if said coach has explicit role in franchise besides just being coach.

As you have seen Cade doesn’t need a wing like that he’s the wing he needs Zach and no other that’s the fit. Period. How can a wing move the needle. Oh snall hall. Everyone is not built like the Warriors. And if we go traditional . We need Zach Edey. I don’t know how it’s said that we need a shooting wing. Guard=Cade. Center=Zach.
