  • A 346 km day loop, taking in a fantastic remote cave temple full of bats!
    𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐦 𝐋𝐮𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐚𝐞 𝐒𝐮𝐚𝐢
ถ้ำแม่สรวย / 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐦 𝐋𝐮𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐚𝐞 𝐒𝐮𝐚𝐢 is a beautiful #cave with multiple caverns and hundreds of #bats! The concrete route to the temple cave is just a few kilometers off the main R118, snaking its way around Mae Suai Dam, providing great views of the dam.
    𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝
Apparently, the cave complex was discovered by accident in 1985 by villagers who went up to farm in the area. At the time the entrance was small and hidden by vines, but when discovered, the villagers crawled into the cavity out of curiosity, which is when the huge cave complex was revealed.
    𝐄𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠
There are two entrances to the cave. One entrance has been enlarged, making it easy to walk into. However, for those who are more daring, (and for those who wish to see the full cave complex), you can enter (or exit) the smaller entranceway and navigate the difficult craggy rocks and slippery ladders. Well worth doing for the additional caverns, but exercise caution.
    𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞
Inside the cave are huge #stalagmites and #stalactites, forming interesting shapes. Some of them look like elephants and others like temple pillars. The bacteria which covers the cave walls form stunning ethereal-looking glittery veils.
    𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐨
When visiting you really need a powerful torch to see well and navigate around. The ground and rocks are slippery in sections and of course, there is bat #guano (so best to wear a mask).
    𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬
Basic. There are basic bathroom facilities with running water to the right of the main cave entrance where you can also wash your hands after visiting the cave.
    𝐓𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞/𝐒𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐞
There is a small shrine and meditation/merit-making temple area also. No fee is charged to visit the cave (but always good to leave a donation).

    𝐆𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞
The fastest route is via the main R118 (145km from #ChiangMai). Not my favourite route, but it is quick and there are plenty of eateries along the way (i.e. #DoiChangCoffee shop: goo.gl/maps/JN...)

    𝐎𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬
To break up the monotony of the main highway, I suggest taking the R1150 (see map route below) (or the R109). Then once you reach Phrao, take the R1001 to #Srilanna National Park and #MaeGnatDam area.
For a special treat head to 𝐏𝐡𝐮𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐟𝐚𝐡 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐭 for a cool drink. Non-guests can enter by paying 50 Baht (which can be redeemed when you buy a drink. I bought a strawberry smoothie - 120 Baht ). The statues of running horses and the miniature #Singha lion set upon amazing grounds are just fantastic. 𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: goo.gl/maps/sG... #PhusafahResort
Additionally, #WatBanDin is well worth viewing in this area too. This temple has some of the most unusual giant dramatic and colourful dragons I have ever seen! More on Wat Ban Din and other attractions are in this previous trip report: motogirlthaila...

It's been some time since you've posted, come on you need to post more often... Always enjoy your videos, very interesting.

Thanks Bill! I do post regular updates and small reels on Facebook and Instagram. It just take quite a bit of time to edit videos for RUclips. I dont want to just put anything up without some decent editing. Seeing comments like yours does help a lot too. Often I think what I do isn't interesting enough for others to watch too. So, it is good to get feedback that it is! Thanks for the support.

Thank you to both you and Bill. It just takes a bit of time to edit them. I will aim to get more up more often. Thanks for your support!

@@motogirlthailand Yeah the editing does take time but it gets easier/quicker with time, most of my videos are just riding motovlog type video's, I don't really do much off the bike stuff although I do plan on adding this sort of thing in my upcoming trips but yeah I'm sure that'll make the editing even more complicated trying to mix on and off bike stuff... Will look forward to your future adventures.

I watched the premiere live, but didn't leave a comment down here.
Echoing the two earlier comments, but the thought of editing is what has stopped me putting up my own videos. No excuse, really, as being retired I should have lots of time 😜

I am glad you decided to leave a reply! Yes, it does take up time. It is really ok if I am in the mood to do it (as well as having free time). It is just a challenge to juggle several different things in my life as well as actually making time to enjoy a ride! Maybe give it a shot and see what the outcome is? :D
