It used to be, a good few years ago. I used to listen to it all the time. It got taken off for some reason.
She died... without a whisper.
That always hits me.
I've always wonder if that means
- The soldiers killed her without even letting her speak (shoot first, ask questions later)
- "Whisper" is more metaphorical, and means she stood firm upon interrogation and did not say anything about whom she was harboring
I hope it means the latter because that is a nice touch of even a "weak" person standing strong.
@@Woodside235 Exactly. I believe it is the second one. She never said a word.
She refused to tell them anything so they shot her
6 years later, this is by far the most underrated/underappreciated piece made by Mick. The mixture between the melancholy of the violins and the violence of the guitars is truly masterful... one of the top tracks Mick has ever produced imo.

@bing bingbung But you have to be fair buddy, its leveldesign and mechanics as well as the overall gameplay were pretty good. I wish more (coop) shooters would be that well made. So what YB lacks in story it makes up for its gameplay. However i think Wolfenstein 3 will undo the damage.
@@nejcl3152 That wasn´t very nice.
@@the_furry_inside_your_walls639 Weirdly enough i found it was the exact opposite. To be fair tough, you do have a point here so don´t think i completely disagree with you. However the Machinegames Wolfenstein games always had huge balancing issues which were at their peak in WS2. YB kinda fixed it since now that you´re on par with the enemies and you have a partner by your side, you can play much more aggressive this time. I recently finished the game and in retrospect i also think a standalone singleplayer game with a few changes here and there would have been better, but what we have right now is miles away from the catastrophy everyone describes it as. It´s just a spin off not being as good as the main games. Assault Horizon didn´t kill ace combat, Judgement didn´t kill gears of war and YB won´t certainly be much of a problem for future wolfenstein games, either.

You know, this song actually invokes the bittersweet feelings about the main game's ending. The violins coupled with the guitar just seem to convey the right amount of anger and sadness which to me personally is an incredible thing to accomplish with a song like this.
Man for a second there I thought you hugely misspelt 'villains' as violins. I'm not sure why.
bittersweet is exactly the feeling it gives, well put. masterful tune.

Both TNO and Old Blood are pure masterpieces of storytelling and music. This actually made me tear up, no shame in admiting it.
I dunno about story telling but it's solid gunplay for sure. Old Blood was great in the second half with the horror aspect but the first half was missing a LOT of story as it was.

That'd be pretty awesome to see. then throughout the song you see him and his friends fighting and dying together
So much emotions in his track:
The feeling of being scared;
The feeling of having fear to stand up for what's worth living for;
The feeling of loss, depression, sadness and defeat;
The feeling that you are forced to give up at a corner and to submit like a slave.
But at the same time, there's a part of you that wanna snap saying: I CAN'T STAND WITH THIS BULLSHIT! ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!
So you stand up against what scares you, what brings you fear, what demoralizes you.
Incoming the feeling to fight
The feeling of anger and hate against your oppressors
The feeling of rage from your endless torture
The feeling of vengeance for what you lost
The feeling of having the will to live and moving forward.
The feeling to protect what you hold dear to you and what's left to hold.

I wouldn't be upset if Mick just did a whole heavy metal album like this song. Seriously, this has to be some of his best work.
Despite many might say otherwise, the soundtrack is the backbone of a game's soul.
I loved playing Wolfenstein TNO and TOB, especially for the music.
It really strikes a special chord in my soul. I can't listen to this without shedding a tear and it's a pain I like to feel. There's struggle, desperation, resolve and hope in those notes.
Notes that are brush strokes coming in my ears, painting the canvas in my mind and the picture is breathtaking.
There was 3 of us this morning.. I am the only one this evening...
I sincerely think this is the best end credits song I've ever heard. It just matches the global feeling of Old Blood so much. It's so depressing and shows how lonely B.J. is in his battle, since 3 out of the 4 allies he comes to met dies in front of him, letting him carrying alone the burden of saving the world from the wicked hold of the seemingly unstoppable Nazi forces, and yet it has (just like Blazko) this "We won't give up anyway" vibe...
To me, this song resumes perfectly the final mindstate of the game: "I've been through hell and back, I've seen surreal horrors and discovered the darkest secrets, I've lost my friends and seen my world set ablaze by the Nazis... But now there's hope to turn the tides as we're heading for a final mission to save the world..."
As B.J. says himself: "I feel the weight of the world pushing me down. I try to carry it nonetheless...one last time...then I can rest."
... And sadly, he couldn't have been more wrong.
This song marks the end of the old wolfenstein. The Castle Wolfenstein games to Wolfenstein 3D to Wolfenstein 2009, and loosely connected(not really in the timeline, but using names and characters from the old timeline to the new Machine Games timeline) The New order and The Old Blood. It’s the end of an era spanning 3 decades. Though Youngblood sucked, I can only hope they make the final game in the machine games timeline, though I hope they make 2 more, one about the second American revolution, and the end of the Third/Fourth Reich. I hope for a comeback for the machine games timeline and a strong close.
Might as well be! Funny enough, one of my favorites is Prey (2017) "Mind Games" as the ending credit.
The song isn't for Mick but he did work on that game as well lol

This seems to be a translation of a French resistance song called La Complainte du Partisan, with some bits of the Chant des Partisans mixed in together. And all of it modernised and more punchy... This has a strong meaning to me as a Frenchman, my great-grandfather had been arrested and deported by the Wehrmacht for various acts of sabotage, and my great-grandparents on the other side of the family had been saved from arrest by a couple of German bakers...
A strong song if it manages to evoke all of this to me, outstanding job, Mr Gordon, thank you very much.

Your story reminds me of what happened to my grandfather. He was on the side of the republicans during the spanish civil war 1936-39. He was from Asturias from a little village in nowhere. One day they were preparing a battle against the fascist somewhere in the north of spain. He was just moving stuff around when suddenly a
lieutenant approched him. They soon found out they were from the same area and he asked him if he want to join him on a tour to get some infos from the hq, well he said yes and was thinking to come later to help the rebels organize things.
He heard later that day, that they got attacked a few hours later. The nationalists killed them all, no survivors. That happened to him before he got married, before he had kids. My father told me that story few years after he died.
I'm here because of luck and the spontaneity of my grandfather.
He doesn't because it isn't. As the description says, its a cover from an older translation to English. The same translation Cohen used. But in terms of the rest of the music, it has no resemblance to Cohen. That said, Cohen's probably where he heard it first.

Totally agreed. People who played New Order will know they are flying to their doom with a glimmer of hope
Interesting fact : the airbase, RAF Kinloss, was just a training base in the real WW2. It gives the feeling not only *how massive* the airborne operation to take down Deathshead is, but also *how desperate* the situation for the Allies is. They are using every airbase available for their remaining transports because this is their last dice roll.

My favorite thing about that appearance is that at the end of Old Blood Fergus mentions he really has to take a piss, as you're about to launch the assault on Deathshead's compound. And at the beginning of New Order Fergus asks you to take the pilot controls because apparently he never did get to take that piss.

In my opinion, this is one of Mick's best lyrical songs. It matches the ending of WTOB, you win and think the Allies have a chance at winning, a moment of solace, but we all know how that turns out. The beat drop brings back the gameplay of Wolfenstein and BJ's undying endurance to win and do what's right. Bethesda honestly does not deserve you after what they had done.

"There were three of us this morning... I'm the only one, this evening..."
There is an entire story in that one sentence and its haunting
"Theirs this dream. Something important. Its gone when I wake up. No time for dreams, I guess. The monster never dies no matter how many times you kill it. It just sheds its skin and changes form. I can feel the weight of the world pushing me down, I try to carry it nonetheless. One last time, then I can rest."
Captain William "BJ" Blazkowicz.
A crime that this isn't on Spotify
Це насправді велика пісня, в деяких моментах вона буквально тримала мене. Дякую Вам велике
This song... no matter how many times I listened to it... it never gets old.
It's 2024. It's relevant.
This is not just a song. This was so f*cking unbelieveable, I even have no right words to describe it. You made something what exhausted me physically.
Love this song (and the game too)
This gave me hopes that new DOOM soundtrack will be good
Update: DOOM soundtack is ass kicking
\m/>.
This is beautiful.
The soundtrack wasn't good. IT LEGENDARY!
mick, thanks for this absolute epicness!! .... as a wolfenstein fan while playing Old Blood i felt that the OST was breathtaking, then i got this insane track at the ending and i was like "holy moly that's sick!", i would try any games associated with soundtrack made by u , keep it up 👍
+mohamed elkholy Rock on man! Thanks for stopping by!
DOOOOM
SWEEEEET.
Mick Gordon Hi, Can You Please Send Me The Notes To Play This On My Guitar, I Love This Game And Your Music, I Hope Your Composing The Soundtrack For The Next Wolfenstein Game
Mick Gordon, you are a legend in my book of one of the best video game soundtrack composers. First played DOOM (2016) in 2018, then Doom Eternal when it came out, and now finished with The Old Blood since it's a prequel to The New Order. Thank you!
My favorite part in this song(besides the whole song itself) is the ending when the violins slowly intensify, it's just filled with so much emotion
ME TO 😔
I've listened to this so many times. The Old Blood is definitely great, but I think the ending as it bleeds into the start of this song for the credits pushes it to new heights.
I agree, and especially since the game's ending leads directly into the opening events to "Wolfenstein: The New Order", knowing that not everyone will survive that.
I love the transition from guitar to violin at the end
That drop at 2:33 OMG tingles down my spine! The juxtaposition of the soft guitar and then bam into the metal riff!!! Even though you're an Auzzy Mick, I still think you're awesome! (From a Kiwi)
Truly a masterpiece. This songs conveys deep feelings, a perfect alchemy between melancholy, grim resolution and the will to fight on and on.
Finally played The Old Blood, by the gods, we need more of Mick Gordon across the gaming platform, you, fucking, LEGEND.
damn near cried even though the war in no way touched my family or my country. Only Mick Gordon can pull that off. Huge respect :)))
Where are you from that World War 2 did not affect? If I may ask.
@@kjj26k sure, I'm from India. Yes, our army played a huge role in the asian theatre, but the British ruled with an iron first over us for 200 years, so world war 1 and 2 were like a drop in the ocean of acts of inhumanity. So much so that we had a faction of rebels join the japanese and the axis powers against the British Empire.
*A timelessly underrated masterpiece right here.*
"Theirs this dream...
Something important...
It's gone when I wake up.
No time for dreams I guess.
The monster never dies no matter how many times you kill it. It just sheds it's skin and changes form. I can feel the weight of the world pushing me down. I try to carry it nonetheless. One last time, then I can rest." - Captain William "BJ" Blazkowicz
I cannot stop listening to this absolute piece of art. It should be much wider know , especially with everything going on now
Mick's music is unmistakable and unrivaled.
"A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame is the imprisoned lightning, and her name Mother of Exiles. With silent lips "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me..." - Captain William Joseph B.J. Blazkowicz
"Death at the door again. Can't greet you today. I have a war to win"
sgtdanny69148 "Shooting, stabbing, strangling nazis" - Captain William Joseph B.J. Blazkowicz He's emotional and badass at the same time :P
"Don't tread on me."
His end speech in NO get me to cry every time.
"Nazis dead. Nazi robot's dead. Broke all your shit. Helicopter secured."
It's been almost 5 years and this masterpiece never fails to make me tremble.
Thanks so much Mick.
The original version of this song is good, but this version, Mick, you have made a masterpiece.
This song hits like an asteroid...
Especially when you *know* what it is about.
❤
Thanks to Raycevick, now I think The Old Blood is the best one of all 3 Wolfenstein games by Machinegames yet less memorable of all for people
same i came here from him too
I did the same; I can’t wait to play the old blood!
@@Barnes0420 it's well worth it. Both the old blood and new order are great. I've yet to play the new colossus
The old blood is just pure shooting bliss, nearly every combat encounter is set up in a very methodical manner, and goddamn is it satisfying to get through those ordeals
The final boss of Old blood is interesting.....
That is on of my favorite soundtracks ever. I listen for this like 1000 times and it's still so great
Zloy_dedulya same here :)
Listening to this perfectly represents the glooming massacre that unfolded to all those poor soldiers in the end of the old blood getting on planes to fight at deaths head compound, the sheer tragedy of it, paired up with brian blooms amazing voice acting. Fuck me sideways mick. Awsome
I don't think Brian Bloom gets enough praise or recognition for how well he did voicing B.J. across these games. He's made such an amazing and wonderful protagonist, who's words can make you laugh, cry, grieve, or cheer.
It's the best credits song ending the game I have ever heard , it fits perfectly in the universe and the subject of this game.
Fun little side fact to read while listening to this masterpiece, that you probably didn't know and most likely won't care about cuz it has absolutely no use for you:
The word "Partisan" is actually a Persian/Iranian word, and it consists of "parti" which refers to Parthians, a group of Iranians that beat the shit outta Selucids and Romans alike and created the Arshkanian/Parthian empire, and the suffix "-san", which in Iranian means "like", so basically, a partisan, is a warrior that fights like the Parthians, and the Parthians were actually known for their impressive guerilla warfare tactics.
Oh woah that’s actually really cool thanks for the little history lesson!
Interesting
Iranian history is one tribe beats all the others, fights across the middle east, picks a fight with a Major power, major power war exhausts the Nation, another tribe beats up the other tribes and takes over.
English history is invaders invade, build up and melt into the population, repeat.
Civics side, it's peasants get angry, king tries to passively kill them with war, they win the war, king has to give them rights, repeat.
Nice to know
This is everything art is supposed to be; thrilling, poignant, and the encapsulation of an entire era in a single composition.
Almost 5 years later and dozens upon dozens of listens and somehow this song still retains its impact. It’s an incredibly grim portrait of a time we were fortunate to never experience ourselves and a reminder that even in the darkest of times there is reason to hope and that there will always be someone who will rise up when no one else can or will.
This melody heard without even knowing about the game. Incredibly strong! Courageous! And a little aggressive! Frisson!
Besides having a great (god-like even) ability to convey emotion into music and make it fit within the setting of the game, Mick Gordon also is an amazing OST composer in a way, that tracks he produces fit amazingly in story-heavy games like Wolfenstein, they fit to the cutscenes they are not overbearing, they just amplify what is happening on your screen.
He could easily compose a whole OST for a movie no worse than John Williams or Hans Zimmer can. The movie-like quality of this one hit me particularly.
I would even go as far as to say, that this track wouldn't stand out in one of earlier U.N.K.L.E. albums which always had a OST vibe to them. That slow beginning or ending where drum and guitar parts are gradually fading out out to leave an orchestral string section playing in - Classic James Lavelle style.
Cannot describe the first time finishing the game and listening to this song. My 7yo boy became addicted to this song and played the shit out of this game, a few more rounds and he'll be able to finish it in a lower difficulty. And also, can sing most of this gem.
this is by far the BEST end credits song for any thing I’ve EVER seen. And I’ve been playing games since i was 5
I've been listening to this song every day since the invasion started. When I see the images of the men and women in Kiev preparing to defend themselves, I'm reminded of this cover in particular. There's an aura of grit that makes it feel rooted in the now.
May God with all people who defend themselves in Ukraine Syria Yemen Palestine and all the world.
Meltipool the tanks still burn and so does freedom.
This war in Ukraine is completely different than the German invasion of France that produced this song. The Russians are, primarily, trying to take back territory where most of the people speak Russian and consider themselves Russian citizens. The Ukrainian government has been shelling its "own" citizens with artillery and has killed thousands of innocent civilians. This has been going on for several years prior to the "invasion" when Putin decided that enough was enough. The Ukrainians are not the good guys here. I'm not saying the Russians are "good" either, but if you have to make it into a moral comparison, it's "the bad guys" vs. "the very bad guys", with the Ukrainians being "the very bad guys".
Bug off ur war means nothing to me
@@MiliMo101bug off this comment means nothing to the people fighting
That was amazing. It captured the foreboding atmosphere perfectly, with a tinge of "Leading to the final battle".
So many games and films and series completely underrate the impact that score can have on the tone and emotions and experience of the art form. The game was great, the music made it epic.. and that's been the case with EVERY game I've played where Mick's been involved. I got tears in my eyes with the power of this song.
SPOILERS FOR WOLFENSTEIN II: THE NEW COLOSSUS
After playing Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, I notice some of the lyrics were kinda foreshadowing to the events of that game (with different circumstances of course) It wasn't intentional, but it's a perfect fit for a prequel game.
"An old woman gave us shelter, kept us hidden in the garret, then the soldiers came; she died without a whisper." - Caroline Becker in the beginning.
"Oh, the wind, the wind is blowing, through the graves the wind is blowing, freedom soon will come; then we'll come from the shadows." - Revolution in the ending
A variant of the same lyrics are in the original French. It is about going into the hills and being on the run from the Germans.
The lyrics weren't foreshadowing considering that this is a translation of a WW2 french resistance song, but I wouldn't be surprised if the lyrics were part of the inspiration for the series' themes and story, especially since it was the guys over at Machine Games who wanted this in the game and asked Mick Gordon to create a rendition of the song for the Old Blood in the first place meaning they knew of the song already. Their game's story and themes are clearly inspired by the acts of rebellion shown by freedom fighters during the Nazi occupation of France, so parallels between a WW2 freedom fighter song and their story makes sense.
hey caroline isnt old :(
I finished this game yesterday. My jaw was on the floor for the duration of the credit rolls. The music is so well made. Tailored to the tone and atmosphere of the game. Truly a superb job
