That fft function re-samples the data and interpolates the points at the fixed sample periods. It would be easier if that interpretation/resample function could be run by itself, and it wouldn’t have to calculate the fft and ifft.
Is this guaranteed to be without loss of precision? Have you overlaid the two waveforms to compare them and verify? This would be one way to ensure that the values given by this method are at least roughly the same as those on the original plot.

Usually i import it to matlab as is and simply interpulate the data against equally spaced time vector.
