Did you guys run the calibration again after adding the A80j as a center channel? I just find it strange that Sony would make the effort of introducing the S-center mode if it didn't make the system sound noticeably better.

I bought the HT A9 and the immersion is excellent, however the phantom center is quite weak - the sound doesn’t seem to be coming from the source (people speaking on screen) and it is distracting. Sony needs to expand to allow non-Sony TVs to act as a center, or sell a dedicated center channel to pair with the brain, otherwise this system cannot achieve HT in a box dominance.
I just got both the HT-A9 and the SW5 subwoofer used off ebay for around $1600 both in very good condition and I am loving it so far. With the HT-A9 compared to my previous Nakamichi Shockwafe 7.2.4 SSE (in actuality more like a 5.2 system with faux height channels) it is night and day. Setup and adjustments are a breeze thanks to the on screen display, movies and music sound phenomenal with it, I've had no issues so far with drop outs unlike the Nakamichi which popped up from time to time. For not having an actual center speaker, the phantom center channel sounds pretty good although I noticed dialogue generally got vague and drowned out so I actually keep the voice setting on all the time. The dialogue/faux center channel sounds much more clear and the overall eq just sounded better in my opinion. Does it beat a dedicated home theater setup, no? Are there better value soundbar options out there, definitely. But for my needs and someone who doesn't want to deal with the hassle of setting up a home theater system with a receiver, speakers and wires (plus the fact if you live in an apartment and can't hook up a traditional system), this is excellent. If you have the money, definitely get the HT-A9, of course your mileage may vary but it gets a big thumbs up from me.

I have this with an A90J 65inch and using the A90J as a center speaker sounds worse, the center speaker thing is just bad but without it it sounds amazing and you can’t even tell you don’t have a dedicated center speaker. I love the sound it’s amazing but Mine is defective unfortunately, works stable for hours until it starts to intermittently drop the sound for a quick second consistently. Called Sony and they told me it is defective after trouble shooting it so I sent it in to be repaired today. We’ll see if they can fix it.

Question for you, is it possible to connect say my Sony HTST-5000 soundbar system (use it as center sound and manually disable all other effects) and connect it to the HDMI output to HT-A9 system. The HT-A9 will go directly to my TV E-Arc. Will both systems work with this type of connection for my LG-G1 TV?
is it okay if my sofa is in the middle and its blocking the connection of the front and back speakers? if this is the case will it work? my front speaker is placed 1.5m from my sofa and also 1.5m away from my back speakers. if this is the case, i will need to buy a tall speaker stand. this will be a hassle for me. i am afraid that both speakers cant be able to connect to each other resulting in a failed connection. the blackbox have to be facing the all of the speakers when installing too?
A great review thanks! I would’ve liked to have lingered over/discussed the advanced settings a little bit longer… (They’re not exactly self explanatory). It does seem to me, from having used the HT-A7000, that when audio enhancement is turned on, the voice enhancement is no longer available. So while it does dramatically increase the soundstage, some of the voice audio/dialogue disappears… At least that’s how it was with the A7000… Did you find the same thing with the A9?

How do the front right and left speakers know how far they are from the TV in order to make the Phantom central front speaker? my set up and room configuration will mean that the right speaker is much closer to the TV than the left speaker. How can the software possibly produce a front speaker accurately in the middle of the two without knowing the distances?

Thanks for the video! But I don't think the comparison between XGIMI Aura and JMGO U2 is persuasive. It is just the tone is a bit different. Aura has a cooler tone, while U2 is warmer. Personally speaking, I think the images projected by the XGIMI aura look much more natural while JMGO U2 images seem to be color distortion....😓

Fantastic review!!! I have a Nakimachi 9.2.4. Sound bar with an LGC9 65” Tv and was waiting for a new Nakimachi to upgrade their system. It seems like they won’t be doing that so this Sony A9 speaker system is something to seriously think about.
i have them .. and doubt that very seriously... main problem is there is no atmos volume level control AND SERIOUS DROP OUTS ... im guessing they need lots of firmware updates. Wether they'll somehow add atmos level control is questionable

I am kind of sick of the traditional home theatre look. I dont really feel like in wall in ceiling. I think those look good and its just a modern look. Well, different look. The sound from most reviewers is incredible. I just have some concerns about BB reviews and a few YT videos right now with some dead speakers in hta9.

Agreed. Theoretically, since it is a wireless connection, wouldn't it be possible to send out the same sub signal to any number of subs at the same time? Why is there even a limit to the number of subs that can be used here at all? Recall that with Sony's "Fiesta Mode" on their portable Bluetooth speakers they can allow signal to propagate to up to 100 Sony Bluetooth portable speakers at once. Well, if they can do THAT with their Bluetooth portables, why can't they do essentially the exact same thing with the Sony wireless subs? Just think of how many more wireless subs they could sell to people if they could?
Sorry no. However, the HT-A9 will create an excellent phantom center channel speaker and it sounds so good you will believe you have a very good center channel physical speaker.

You still have to be in the center for the most solid phantom image.
