It came out a year before I was born lmao. Even when I was older, my mom only let me play games she already had on her computer and I didn't know how to use the internet anyway lol
I'm honestly really upset that I wasn't a newgrounds kid. I stayed more on Y8, Kizi, Friv or the like, and watching everyone talk about their love for these characters makes me wish i could be a part of it. Very glad Friday Night Funkin allowed me to learn about them however.

I think the biggest issue in the community currently is the age of the characters and the lewding If pico is 21, then the others are also adults, but others say otherwise and it definitely has caused lots of fights ive gotten to watch

Looking back, despite the controversy the series sparked, there's something I find cathartic about playing as someone who fights back in a *very* darkly comedic series. Dark comedy and Pico series aren't for everyone (even I couldn't laugh at certain parts). She's less talked about, but if Pico was Fulp's escapism character, Nene was the most relatable for me. I also found myself relating to Nene because she's also a girl who felt ashamed of herself. She's an Asian stereotype with putting herself down too much and the whole "honor" thing, but I found it more amusing more than anything because it is true to some degree for me as someone who's also Asian and anxious. I remember reflecting that there was a sliver of relief that I can just chuckle a bit about a fictional character who's undergoing the same in spite of myself in a similar situation as she was, just without the promiscuity and herpes. I appreciate the interpretive aspect of the characters because that means I can imagine what kind of upbringing she, Pico, and Darnell had that made them that way.
I won't lie, when I started playing FNF and saw Pico, I got that sense of de-ja-vu as if I have seen him before. 2007 to 2008ish was when I was introduced the internet and I just vaguely remember my uncle playing flash games on the computer and seeing a ginger kid with a gun. Whether it was an actual Pico game or not is beyond me, but that memory sort of sits in the back of my mind when I play FNF on Pico's week (Or at least what's left of it lmao)

Dunno if I've ever said this before, but on the subject of Pico's School being more than people give it credit for despite all the toilet humor (no pun intended), here's my addition: The most evocative stories are the ones willing to laugh, because then you know that it was made by a human. It's just a lot clearer that someone actually gives a damn when they have a wide range of emotions in their work.
I love this show, I'm glad you promoted it over my no clip answer on twitter. The one thing i'd be curious about even though you explore flash history is a bit what happened to those devs on how important they are to the gaming scene to this day. Some went to do animation but Edmund Mcmillen influences over indie games is astonishing. Tom Fulp had a lot to do with behemoth games... And still has the newgrounds spirit even though less raw. And Egoraptor, an animator, did a very popular let's play serie, produced dream daddy, a game that had a lot of success, and even is a member of starbomb, which is basically musical game parody. Also maybe some theme videos would be cool like counterculture in flash content. But that's what I'd like to see or know. The thing you do is amazing by itself and even though I was very invested in newgrounds and flash history. I learnt a lot from that vid. I don't want to sound like i'm the center of the world or like I know better. I don't, I'm just wondering if you'd find that content interesting... Anyway great video, can't wait to watch all there is about all that.

Although it's a bit of a running theme through the series, so maybe wouldn't warrant an individual examination? But the counterculture of Flash, and how influential it's been on mainstream games moving forward is something I'd LOVE to pay greater respect to! Thanks a lot for confirming the FnF Pico as BF's ex. You don't know how much people are on denial about this. Like they try to say that Tankman's roast about them being "sexually ambiguous friends" is something else (like making Pico non-binary, trans, etc). It's literally meant to be taken as "Wow dude, you out here trying to save a girl when your """friend""" seems to love you more than she does". Another piece of info that seems to be highly unknown is that Pico's first song would of been named "Long time no see" instead of just Pico to further indicate their previous connection, but it was scrapped because the name was too long and didn't fit with the short names of the other songs. Seriously, what's the problem with it being canon? Nothing at all. They are not together NOW, they just used to be back in middle school, then they broke up a few years after and actually stopped seeing each for a long time (the song's beta name). For me, they're so cool and just friendship goals, to be able to get over their break up and become best buddies as adults.

There's an entire 11 minute and 48 second playthrough of Pico's School here on RUclips. I went to the FNF wiki and found an page on Pico. That's where I found out about his original game, Pico's School and, after seeing the playthrough, I immediately fell in love with the characters in it. (Nene's Interactive Suicide is still so ridiculously, yet hilariously, messed up to me.)
Playing PICO as one of my first games filled with gore at a really young age, was truly eye opening. I just thought the game was cool and "different" to other games that were softer in themes and I still loved them. Nothing harmful was even put into my head and I practically just went on to playing other trendy flash games. It was a nice era.
I only remember pico being the character that inspired riddle school games, I was surprised to see him reappear in fnf, knowing all the history this character carries is cool to me!
im 30 years old, played Pico when i was hella young and easily influenced, yet the part at the end you pointed out where he tells Cassandra to use her rage/hatred etc. for a more positive outlet actually stuck with me to my adult years, sad i just saw this video now, had no idea it had this much of an impact over the years, it literally set the bar for satire for me (like oh this is really bad yet i never was like im gonna do this irl) ive played just about all of Fulps games over the years, recently saw Pico on FNF and it blew my mind hes still super relevant, and im mindblown how much i learned from this video, good stuff dude, i always wondered what happened and where Pico ended up, and led me to this video after a quick google search, never realised half the creators i follow on modern social media started on NG, just wow, well spoken and informative good stuff man, i got alot to think about haha

afaik all the Pico canon are supposed to be canon due to the existence of portals, guarded by P-Bot. Like Portals from other worlds originating in or connected to Newgrounds like There She Is, Alloy, and even Homestuck to an extent. This was evident in Newgrounds RUmble, where each fighter hailing from different worlds and timelines fight it out to be the King of the Portal So yea Pico x BF is indeed canon to some extent, especially in the FnF lore canonicity

I won't lie, when I started playing FNF and saw Pico, I got that sense of de-ja-vu as if I have seen him before. 2007 to 2008ish was when I was introduced the internet and I just vaguely remember my uncle playing flash games on the computer and seeing a ginger kid with a gun. Whether it was an actual Pico game or not is beyond me, but that memory sort of sits in the back of my mind when I play FNF on Pico's week (Or at least what's left of it lmao)

Dunno if I've ever said this before, but on the subject of Pico's School being more than people give it credit for despite all the toilet humor (no pun intended), here's my addition:
The most evocative stories are the ones willing to laugh, because then you know that it was made by a human. It's just a lot clearer that someone actually gives a damn when they have a wide range of emotions in their work.
I love this show, I'm glad you promoted it over my no clip answer on twitter. The one thing i'd be curious about even though you explore flash history is a bit what happened to those devs on how important they are to the gaming scene to this day.
Some went to do animation but Edmund Mcmillen influences over indie games is astonishing.
Tom Fulp had a lot to do with behemoth games... And still has the newgrounds spirit even though less raw.
And Egoraptor, an animator, did a very popular let's play serie, produced dream daddy, a game that had a lot of success, and even is a member of starbomb, which is basically musical game parody.
Also maybe some theme videos would be cool like counterculture in flash content.
But that's what I'd like to see or know. The thing you do is amazing by itself and even though I was very invested in newgrounds and flash history. I learnt a lot from that vid. I don't want to sound like i'm the center of the world or like I know better. I don't, I'm just wondering if you'd find that content interesting...
Anyway great video, can't wait to watch all there is about all that.

A highlight episode of prominent creators who started out in Flash could be cool! Although it's a bit of a running theme through the series, so maybe wouldn't warrant an individual examination?
But the counterculture of Flash, and how influential it's been on mainstream games moving forward is something I'd LOVE to pay greater respect to! Especially how it really opened the door for mobile games, and the indie scene.

Thanks a lot for confirming the FnF Pico as BF's ex. You don't know how much people are on denial about this. Like they try to say that Tankman's roast about them being "sexually ambiguous friends" is something else (like making Pico non-binary, trans, etc). It's literally meant to be taken as "Wow dude, you out here trying to save a girl when your """friend""" seems to love you more than she does". Another piece of info that seems to be highly unknown is that Pico's first song would of been named "Long time no see" instead of just Pico to further indicate their previous connection, but it was scrapped because the name was too long and didn't fit with the short names of the other songs.
Seriously, what's the problem with it being canon? Nothing at all. They are not together NOW, they just used to be back in middle school, then they broke up a few years after and actually stopped seeing each for a long time (the song's beta name). For me, they're so cool and just friendship goals, to be able to get over their break up and become best buddies as adults.

It makes no sense for it to mean anything else, like the trans or nonbinary thing just is too out there. Also it's just a classical "lol you gay" roast.

Only reason I had no idea that Pico was from an original game and not FNF is because I didn’t have access to Newgrounds very much 😂 Once my parents found out the shit that I accessed on there, that was it. I don't know everything yet but I'm trying my best to learn the history. The only thing that completely baffles me so far is strawberry clock, I know nothing about it and just don't get it lol

There's an entire 11 minute and 48 second playthrough of Pico's School here on RUclips. I went to the FNF wiki and found an page on Pico. That's where I found out about his original game, Pico's School and, after seeing the playthrough, I immediately fell in love with the characters in it.

Playing PICO as one of my first games filled with gore at a really young age, was truly eye opening. I just thought the game was cool and "different" to other games that were softer in themes and I still loved them. Nothing harmful was even put into my head and I practically just went on to playing other trendy flash games. It was a nice era.

im 30 years old, played Pico when i was hella young and easily influenced, yet the part at the end you pointed out where he tells Cassandra to use her rage/hatred etc. for a more positive outlet actually stuck with me to my adult years, sad i just saw this video now, had no idea it had this much of an impact over the years, it literally set the bar for satire for me (like oh this is really bad yet i never was like im gonna do this irl) ive played just about all of Fulps games over the years, recently saw Pico on FNF and it blew my mind hes still super relevant, and im mindblown how much i learned from this video, good stuff dude, i always wondered what happened and where Pico ended up, and led me to this video after a quick google search, never realised half the creators i follow on modern social media started on NG, just wow, well spoken and informative good stuff man, i got alot to think about haha

It's actually unreal how big FNF is. Most ~11-16 year olds all know who Pico is now through that game! I wanted to ensure as many new fans as possible understood he's not a new character :)

afaik all the Pico canon are supposed to be canon due to the existence of portals, guarded by P-Bot. Like Portals from other worlds originating in or connected to Newgrounds like There She Is, Alloy, and even Homestuck to an extent. This was evident in Newgrounds RUmble, where each fighter hailing from different worlds and timelines fight it out to be the King of the Portal
So yea Pico x BF is indeed canon to some extent, especially in the FnF lore canonicity
