Totally agree. We have 3 children too (4yrs, 2yrs and 6 months) and we stick to 4 gift rule for birthdays/christmas. ‘Something you want, something you need, something to wear and something to read’ it’s working well at keeping us focused on not over spending or getting too much for them xxx
I totally agree with you . Children have far too much stuff these days, it’s overwhelming and they can’t possibly play with it all, half of the time they forget what they have got ! Aren’t you doing unbirthday presents as you usually do? Again this isn’t something I’ve been aware of until very recently. I get the reasons why but thankfully it is something we’ve ever done so I am quite pleased as it’s yet more expense and stuff to worry about! Happy Birthday Lily xx
We dont go overboard with presants either,we usually go out for a meal and take them out to do something special and then give them a presant or 2 ... hope lily enjoyed her birthday 😊
I'm with you, we have 4, and the amount of crap is just getting overwhelming. The older ones (2 boys 16yrs and 15yrs) just get a decent pair of Nike's and an outfit. The 2 younger ones (girl 12 and boy 10) are still in the wanting toys stage, but they are almost at the same age. Our biggest problem is that all their birthdays happen from September to December, so we all end up completely overwhelmed!
It's the pressure from others. I always used to feel bad if i couldn't get alot for mine. Said to myself why the hell am I letting myself struggle to get the kids alot of presents it not worth the stress just get what I can afford. Now I set myself a budget of what i can afford some years may be more or some may be less. I have my youngest 4th birthday next month his got quite a few presents but I stayed in my budget plus got quite a few learning stuff as his starting school September. Even tho lily hasnt got much to open for her birthday her pile is still big with the waterpark park and dinner out that all adds up so what you would normally spend on presents might add upto the same with the day out and meal aswell as he presents. Hope lily has the best birthday and she will love all her presents 🎉🎉
There is a point when you just give the kids what they ask for and not just buy things cause the pile has to be so big or you bought it cause you wanted her to have it. And then get upset it’s not used enough or put away when she never wanted it in the first place. And your kids have other relatives that could be buying them stuff or putting something in the bank on their behalf. A family without aunt/uncle/grandparent might get more from parents than a kid with extended family.
Hope Lilly has a lovely birthday enjoyed seeing what you got her I’ve got 6 grandsons staring at 18 months and finnishing at 11 would love a grandaughter lol Hope you all enjoy your holiday it’s boiling in England today xx
You've had some lovely weather in the UK lately! I'm hoping g it stays nice once we're back from our holiday. Maybe one day you'll get a granddaughter 💓 I love having boys but it is nice having a girl too 💗
Do people with kids still have the old fashioned tea parties at home or in the garden, playing musical chairs, musical statues, pass the parcel, pin the tail on the donkey etc? Those parties were my absolute favourite when I was little! Much better than having to stand around waiting your turn for the trampoline at the local leisure centre & then have a tiny kids meal after. Hands up who loves a good old fashioned tea party? Ps happy, happy birthday to your darling daughter! :) Her birthday presents look so bright & colourful & fun. 🎂 🎈 🎶 👸 🎉
Yes, we do ☺️ no way am I intending hundreds of pounds to standing in atrampoline park for 2 hours and watch as no one eats their crap food 😂 I loved my birthday parties at home when I was small. Thank you so much ❤️
I totally agree with not buying loads of presents, it’s hard finding space for them and they forget what they’ve got, I tend to buy my niece about three to four presents i know she will really play with x
Happy Birthday Lily. Presents are fantastic. I love a day out/ experience for a gift…..I have done that for my daughter….. for her she loves theatre tickets. Oh and a birthday on holiday is amazing 🥳
😂I'm 45 and love trolls watched it loads of times 😊and soft toys my eldest is 18 and loves em never too old for teddy's 😂❤weldone claire your a fab mum to them kids I always say less is more 😉have a lovely Tuesday
I think it's up to each parent to decide what's best for them. My sister is like you, she limits a lot as to what she buys their kids....so be it...her choice. I on the other hand spend a fortune, not necessarily on lots and lots, but at their ages now i buy more expensive items, this year Zachri wanted a new phone, an apple one, so i bought him an iphone 13pro (13 because it was his 13th birthday),plus gets a day outing of his choice followed by a meal out and i only do family birthday parties as with his autism he struggles with parties. So it's each to their own ...i dont tell anyone else how to buy gifts and i certainly dont want anyone else telling me not to spend my money on my children and it's nothing to do with buying into commercial consumerism nor do i buy tat.... Same with Christmas, i know parents who spend a max of £150 on each child, i spend @£800 to £100 per child, my friend alloctes £2000 per child...we all do what we do & no-one should be made to feel guilty or bad. Some friends complain about what i spend, but not once do I comment on the small amout they spend. Sorry for the rant but it riles me when people have a go at mums (we're the ones that mostly get the pressies, my ex husband often only found out what they got on the day)...you're damned if you spend a "small "amount and you're damned if you spend "too much" ... so you're just right not caring what anyone else thinks. You're children are always so happy and thankful for whatever they get. Children who have SEN needs quite often can cause arguments on birthdays and Christmas as it's so overwhelming and over stimulating them...they can appear ungrateful or throw a strope because something they really wanted wasnt there or theu think a sibling got more or got something they want but never asked for....so for them and us birthdays, Easter & Christmas can end up with someone in tears..good fun ...not x
Absolutely, to each their own, everyone should do what suits them when it comes to birthday gifts, i jist feel for my lot, with as much stuff that they have, they don't need tons more. And I agree, Christmas, and birthdays can be a challenging with SEN children xx
I don't blame you and it's all the kids do is dump it everywhere mom has to clean it up and that's just they don't need that my kids always knew if they didn't clean up stuff that the big black garbage bags are going to come out and one year that's what happened and guess what they got for Christmas those same big black garbage bags full of toys

We didn't do un-birthday presents this year as we were on holiday, instead we gave each of the children €20 as spending money on hol x
I totally agree with you….its pressure from others. You have got her things she will love. Xx
Thank you xx
Those presents look amazing she will love them! Perfect amount! Unfortunately the presents seem to get more expensive the older they get
She was very happy with them 😊 I agree. Once they get to 10, I think they want more expensive stuff, dont they!
