I have long been following the TRC , but with this particular story , I'm absolutely shocked and have no words , but it is my first time to cry from a witness story.
His parents and sister were killed in 1990 prior to the capture of the Old Road by Charles Taylor’s rebels. It was not in 1992. Tgey were my neighbors at the time in Gaye Town.
I remembered waking up in the early morning back in 1990 to the tragic killing of the Nah family by Doe and his gangs. Jonny story is a survival of a true crime story.
The witness went through a lot and we can understand why he got the years wrong. We should really appreciate his courage to have testified at the TRC hearings. I am sure the witness intended to say that the massacre of his family occurred in August 1990 instead of August 1992. Between July and August 1990 there were lots of killings in the Sinkor and Old Road areas allegedly by the then AFL. Cllr. Verdier did a good job trying to make the witness remember, but we can never tell his level of trauma. I remember his story was first reported in Mr. Tom Kamara "New Democrat" newspaper in 1993 and by then it was reported he (the witness) was already out of Liberia.
This must have been very traumatic for the young man. You can tell that's it's like he's reliving that horrible tragedy as he's giving his testimony...
The commission is doing a good job but security should be provided to these traumatized people you can not bring people to testify and then there is security guarantees
My cousin Nathan Tulay, who was a friend of Johnny, and I were going to see this boy, he was a child then, and to encourage him and we got arrested by Krahn soldiers who were assigned in that Gaytown the morning of the killing.
What is the purpose of this commission just to call people and get information leave people to protect themselves you must protect these people do not try to be funny...

The reality and crux of the matter is the incontrovertible facts his family was murdered albeit sketchy and questionable details with timeline and juxtaposition of events. Howbeit cruel, never ever shall we as people ever aid, abet or wage senseless war. May God help this man and all who went through trauma!

This is a made up story. Did the commission call upon Bishop Michael for questioning? The reason here is because, Nah Jr mentioned that he helped him to leave Libraria for Ivory Coast? The commission has to analyze so many factors before making a conclusion. First of all the abbreviation CO was never used by the AFL during the war but was rather used by the rebels. (2) The late President Samuel K.Doe wasn't alive during 1992. (3) Nah Jr just mentioned mofthi which is a military word. This brother is sounding like former rebels. My reason for saying this is because, how can a civilian used a military word if and only if he/she doesn't have a military experience. He also mentioned that he doesn't know about his brother whether he's still alive because when he stepped the soldier guys escorting them, he manages to escape. So he does not know whether his brother was killed or not. He did mention from the beginning that they were only four ( his father, mother, little sister and him). How can he give another misleading information about his brother when he was asked. The TRC has to be very careful and honest in their conclusion when witnesses come over to testify.

Many Liberians who knew madame Famatta Nah knew she was a young lady between the age of 18 and 22 years of age when she was unfortunately killed in August 1990. The witness stated his year of birth to be 1975. Meaning he was 15 years old in 1990. A 22 years old Famatta Nah would have only been 7 years his Senior. Is it possible for a 7 years old child to give birth? Besides, that we all knew Johnny Nah to be a very light-skinned Malatto man. This individual who wishes to represent himself as the biological son of Johnny Nah is Sudanese dark. Unless his mother cheated on Mr. Nah, his complexion disqualified him to be the son of a malatto man. Second, Jerome Verdier as a respected attorney of law should have known leading a witness to answer a question in a certain way is highly against the rules of civil/criminal procedures in any court of competent jurisdiction be it Liberia or the United States of America. Yet counselor Verdier on numerous occasions led this fraudster to say president Doe sent Dweh to kill Mr. Nah and his family in 1990 and not 1992. Verdier knew no one would have taken the witness seriously if he had not forced him to the correction. Thirdly, we can't be oblivious to the fact the motive behind these fabrications. This fraudster and his spouse had very little interest in seeking justice for the Nah's family and everything to do with their own financial opulent. The simple fact the witness' wife insisted in getting financial compensation from the TRC and the Liberian government makes it glaring clear what their true motives were.
