- Ive put my BMC recovery back on the road and my youngest son Luke has taken some great videos both in the cab and from the outside too so please check out my other videos and enjoy the sound!
You put a grinning SMILE on my face John. And this is what counts these days . . .
He he i like that AL and yes i agree these are dark times and yes it does the same for me this truck 👍
That sounds absolutely glorious. Thank you.
Your very welcome Andrew, thank you
That’s what I call an amazing old school symphony. The V8 Perkins sounds great. Old machines never dies they just get better and noisier.
I agree 100%
Loved the mastiff , I drove them for L Wilson of Sheffield back in the 1980s , very nice to hear the noise and see a bit of film.
Lots of interesting lorries in Sheffield in the 70s and 80s, my uncle used to fix Fruit machines and i used to go with him and when he got a call for Sheffield i knew it would be a treat, full of run down old brit motors.
Very nice sound of that Perkins v8
Cheers Wayne and im glad you have found my stuff on here too.
Versy nice ONLY ? This beast beats ANY german TANK !
Look at the inside of that, proper workhorse and a sound to match. Scania V8s even with custom stacks don't sound anything like that. Artwork of gear changing too, bravo sir for keeping it going!
I love your comment Jay and the Scania V8 boys really don't know what to make of it ha ha, i was out in it last Sat and yts a pure joy to drive and see the reactions of folk.
Those scanias would make mince meat out of it.
I drove a 4 wheeler back in 1972,16 ton gvw on long distance haulage, With a load of ten tons it flew along and was comfortable for the era.I recall the water cooled oil cooler was a bit prone to fail .The Eaton two speed axle, which we see used here enabled you keep her pulling,😊
That was interesting to read and this recovery Mastiff of mine was originally a 16 flat lorry carrying Bales of wool for Brooke Dyeing of Holmfirth and they said once it was loaded it used to catch the others up on route so your not wrong Michael.
Top sausage! I once had a full day in a G-cabbed Boxer and quite liked it, but this looks much more fun, and the V8 sounds great!
Thanks Chris and yes i guess it would sound a lot better than the engine in a Boxer for sure.
Those perkins v8,s had a distinct sound all of their own. I had Dodge k850 with a 510 and a six speed gearbox it went like a rocket .
I like the way it sounds a real old school thumper.
Hi John. Nothing like the sound of a V8 Perkins!
Oh Yes Norman as we both know, i believe the Dodge has a new wheelbase?
Yes John, now down to 146" wheelbase which is 2" longer than the nearest factory option!
Brings back memories of a super mastiff topmix mixer!
Funny enough i spent a day with a bloke who had a Super Mastiff Mixer. i got footage on Hi8 film
Sounds great, Double clutch, my a 16 ton lovely Lorry here in Great Britain
My dad, had a Mastiff artic use to love that truck, I use to drive it on private property, wish I had it now
I love the Mastiff. Mine has the V8.540 in it and I was still working it up until 5 years ago now its semi retired
Its some machine yours James and with them pipes too -wonderful!
Wow John that takes me back to 4 years old running around the South Wales valleys hauling Burnt Red Shale for road building! V8 Perkins Mastiff with Telehoist Tellite body giving a generous 11tons payload, Dad was forever kicking the exhaust back on he said as they were low to the ground for site work😩
My Dad had 1 in the 70s, sounds Ruff, and she will go off the Speedo
Sounds great,more videos please
I will when i get time Glen -cheers.
Great video. Nice sounding engine 👍🇬🇧
Nice to see that in Huddersfield- wish I'd seen it about!
I never saw it when it was still working either im afraid Alex.
Love the V8.510
Used to go with my dad in his Leblanc chieftain that sounded like that
0.47 la sonorité de rêve !! 😃
What a lovely growl on that engine. Pity the video was so short though.
Sorry about that Norrie but im glad you love the sound and i was out in it last Saturday.
This driver is killing this engine .short stroke v8s like this Perkins and the cummins 504 need to be revved, at least 2500 rpms between shifts, and use the two speed as a splitter .because of there short stroke all of there hp is produced at higher rpms this is why some drivers had fantastic runs out of the ford d 1000s and others did n0t
There no law to say you need 2500 rpm in any truck I’ve been in let alone this one. Diesels have low down torque. You are just so wrong it doesn’t kill the engine . It’s an old vehicle and should be treated with care which the driver is doing and they like to be lugged.
This Driver (Me) has owned this lorry now for nearly 25 years now -but you are right about the Revs and im only driving it like this as its not pulling any weight and you get a deeper V8 sound for the video and sound recording, at high revs its just a high pitched scream and i think i know what people would prefer to hear.....but when i have towed lorries in the past with it -i agree 100% it wont pull unless the revs are high with it being a short stroke engine etc....it gets BIG smiles at shows when i drive like i am in the video
@@cidertom5140 Trevor does have a point but you do too and its pulling no weight in the video so why rev the nuts off it. Thanks for your comment Tom.
@@octopus680 the only engine I can think of that needs the revs is the good old screaming daemon driptroit Detroit green leaker.
@@cidertom5140 He he yes indeed, my old boss loved them.
What a beast ❤❤
Thanks Paul i had to move it yesterday and it always brings a smile to my face.
Sounds Gorgeous
Gear shifts excellent
Drove mastive tipper 8wheeler first job i had in the 90s it wsa stretchd tractor unit sounded good but not to powerfull but was old truck 👍
Pure bloody music!!!!
Ha ha yes i agree.
had one of them with a ready mix body on proper truck pulled like a train
Wow give us a go ❤
Its been in action today...
My dad whos just passed had a clydedale but they also had a 18tonner mastif v8 i remember them well
What is the ring shaped rod for, on the top of the shifter?
❤️thaskyou
Thanks for looking xx
Are u driving it on Ur car license or hgv one
HGV Licence holder since 1988 and all my lorries need a HGV to drive them
The community bus we have can be driven on car one wher short off drivers at the mow
日本と同じ左側通行、と言う事はイギリスですな😮
The exhausts are very V E R Y empty dear John, huh ?
Bring it over to dewsbury
In the uk I'm surprised thought gonna be down under mate
They are rare now but back in the day there were quite a few in the UK
Where is it now
Still owned by me in Yorkshire. 🙂
Chingon donde es
Hope it’s not burning oil
It does burn or leak oil at all this Perkins lump, its only ever had a core plug and recently a exhaust maginifold in the 20+ years ive owned it.
@@octopus680 gosh you must have agood one
At anything over 16ton gross these V8 510 were useless,we had Seddon 24ton tractor units and were the worse trucks we ever had,we were never brave enough to try the V8 540 after that, bought Volvo and never looked back.
I can believe it David as you got to rev the nuts out of them just get anything at all, but it has towed a heavy eight wheeler back to the yard a few years ago with a big Vac tank on it...
Sounded great in Dennis fire engines
Chega a ser estranho! Eu aqui no Brasil ver veículo com o volante do lado direito 😆😆😆
As in the Ford D1000
Yes i have a 540 Perkins in my Ford tipper.
Driving on the wrong side of the road. LOL.
Well i could drive on the pavement or hit the parked cars i guess lol...
Yip I agree the brits shot themselves in the foot, never invested in their industries, such a sorry, mistake😢
Isn't it just -all lost now.
Fabulous…!!!!
Cheers Trident.
