The best example of a Murray cod fishing bite window
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 5 фев 2023
- Many of us have heard of the bite window when fishing. A short time frame in which the fish come on the bite really well before shutting down again. Murray cod are notorious for this but I am sure that it extends to other species of fish.
In this video the bite window is very pronounced, and lasted for around 45 minutes or so.

You are a typical kid. Dad sits there silently while you talk your head head off. Settle down young Robert 🤣💚
LOL
What a champ! You have given me and my brother-in-law the get up and go to wet some line and fish the ovens! Only a short drive from Albury
Thanks Ben, good luck mate.
I love the bite windows lol Good little Session Robbie
Thanks mate. They just come out of nowhere don't they?
Awesome session fellas. my young bloke loves that stumpy to Robbie 👌
Thanks mate. It's am awesome colour!
Great viewing as always mate ! Thanks for sharing Robbie :)
Hi Robert, thanks so much for watching.
Another awesome vid🇦🇺
Thank you so much Martin.
G’day Robbie, great to see you out with your dad again, mate 👍🏼. The river looks so great at the moment. Couple of nice fish during the day also mate, cheers…
Thanks so much Wayne. The river sure is in excellent shape. It's always a delight fishing with my dad..
Wow amazed at your casting skills. Great video always great to see your dad.
Thanks so much Vincent. It's always great to be out fishing with my dad.
I was going to comment the same. I wish I could cast half as accurately as Robbie.
@@jonathanleahy4931 practice makes perfect but he is exceptional.
@@Vincentdonnelly5158 my old man would setup buckets in the back yard and just tie a sinker on for us to practice. That was a long long time ago. Haha.
Hello rob
Mate I was just digesting yesterday epic fishing trip and ping another one today ...both great mate ..
Think I feel the same as you regarding them tiger leeches 😱..
Lovely to see you out with dad ...
Well done fellas and a big heart warming thanks
😎🏴
Thanks so much Michael. They really are disgusting things those tiger leeches. Haha I hope you're having a great day mate.
Great video as always mate. Hope you enjoyed fishing with your dad
Thanks so much mate. I always love fishing with my dad.
Great video Robbie another amazing video last night I went out surface fishing for cod i got 3 including my new Pb of 90cm all on the chase baits smuggler the big one bent the wing on the smuggler but I fix it
WOW that is incredible, well done mate. Unreal!!
Good one looked a fun trip 👍👍👍👍
Thanks Cam. What a glorious morning we had.
Great vid robbie 😀
Thanks so much Jack.
That was great, 😆 🤣. Nice to see your dad.
Thanks Deb, it was a great morning. Very slow apart from about 45minutes of madness.
At the weir wall on the still side, headed out left to the boat ramp, straight down the middle of the river, trolled a 2or4 bladed yellow black and red spinner bait and got a cod from my feet to my shoulder long. Thought I was snagged for a couple of minutes. Very rare experience but there must be some big ones there, if you ever get down there with the kayak. A few years ago so not sure what the fishing or water is like there to date. It’s the only cod I’ve ever caught there.
WOW I bet that caught you by surprise. I have caught them not far down from there.
There's a lot of redfin being caught there at the moment.
Great video! It’s funny how you arrive at prime time but they only start biting in the middle of the day haha
haha You're not wrong mate. Interesting fish! I wonder why they came on the bite all of a sudden? The bite window opened as soon as the wind sprung up, I wonder if that had anything to do with it?
That sure was a beautiful place that is for SHURE thanks Robbie
Thanks so much Tim. I am so blessed to live where I do.
Thank you -some people tell me I’m nuts but that’s how it works well done
Thanks Peter. There's nothing wrong with being a little nuts mate, I quite enjoy it. 🤣🙏
@@robbiefishing about 6 years ago I experienced the bite window over a period of 4 hours in the Murray near Mathoura in a period of 4 hours we could about 20 legal cod and that was it - this was the best day’s fishing I have ever experienced
@@peterhipwell4632 WOW that's incredible. Amazing fish aren't they.
Great video Robbie hope your thumb better great area you are fishing
Thanks so much Kelvin. Yep, my finger has made a full recovery.
Once again u have nailed it being a line hall driver your stuff relaxes me at the end of the day have u thought of getting the thank you button were we can donate to u I do it for one of the cooking smoker guys and would love to support you more as would a lot of other people I'm sure. Keep up the great work cheers from grumpy
Hi Colin, thank you so much for your kindness. I certainly do do a lot to help, usually away from the camera and probably more away from fishing. I believe in helping others.
I don't have that button, but could maybe look into it. I do have a Pattern account though. It costs $4.50 per month, no contracts.
For that you get to see my videos early, as well as fishing reports and a monthly Patron exclusive live stream.

RobbieNostradamus joins RobbieFishing and RobbieCooking! Some nice fish there - I assume Dad had a blank - maybe the last invite you get for a while 😂
Haha thanks Frank. I called that one. When we booked 2 in quick succession I was so glad that I made that call. LOL
CHERISH those trips with your dad Robby!
Absolutely I do U.F.
@@robbiefishing Great!
Who knows why we have bite windows with Cod, but they do exist? Round about 10am and 4 pm seem to be the times when fish come on the bite more frequently.
Good little season mate gee the river full to the brim
Thanks mate. Yeah it's certainly higher than normal for this time of the year.
Nice fish Robbie
Thanks so much mate.
I caught my first cod on a stump jumper yesterday, went even smaller than the first one you caught, not always big lure big fish lol
Haha didn't I prove that! LOL well done mate. 👍
Keep fishing with your Dad Robbie. I miss mine.
I'm sorry to hear that mate. I love fishing with my old man.
Did you launch at bundalong? Or not that far down ... I love it up there ... Haven't managed to get up there this summer .. maybe in the autumn
Hey mate we were just upstream a little bit, same area though.
Are you fishing open banks and middle of river or just hitting snags Rob?. Great vid mate.
Hi mate, we were fishing all banks and casting to snags wherever they were. In the middle, on the edge etc...
Great video Robbie! Hey in your ultra setup for trout do you run braid to mono leader or do you just spool the whole thing with mono? Looking at getting a ultra light setup for trout
Thanks mate. I use straight mono. I use braid on my bait caster reels, but much prefer mono on spin reels.
@@robbiefishing awesome thanks for the reply!
I've still yet to catch a cod haha. Set a rod up just for cod so hoping I'll get one at a reservoir soon. Great vid as always! 😁🎣
Thanks mate. Good luck on the cod. I know there's some great lakes in S.A. for cod fishing, I just don't know where.
@@robbiefishingthanks 😁 yeah, Happy Valley in Adelaide, South Para and Warren near Williamstown, Myponga. Can get them in the riverland too closer to the Victorian border. No crayfish here though haha. If you're ever in SA, I'll show ya. Oh and you can land stomper redfin at Myponga! 😁🎣
I see the problem, you need to spend 1000 bucks on a rod and reel then you'll start to see some progress 🤔
@@davoandstorm9801 haha my biggest cod this season is 82cm and I caught it on a old fibreglass rod with the runner missing from the top eye. LOL It's a broken cheap rod and reel. 🤣🤣
@@robbiefishinghahaha my shimano beast master rod is missing the runner from top eye too lol meh, still works 😂
Not a bad session!
Would a shimano slx setup with braid be good for a cod setup?
Hi mate, I think so. I've never used one. Probably best to ask your local tackle store buddy.
Did the bite tie in with solunar bite times? Wife and family laugh at me but I reckon it is a good indicator especially if barometric pressure is above 1017 hpa. Doesn’t stop me fishing outside the times though. Lol
Hi mate, it was right in the middle of know where. The moon set at 2am. It was the first thing I checked. Haha
is this video recorded before or after the last incident.
Hi mate, this was filmed after. This video is only a few days old. It was filmed last Thursday.
Hey mate we've got the exact same boat as your dads- we were never told the make/ model. What is it? Great video like always mate
Thanks so much Michael. I'm not sure of the exact size and model, but it is a Bermuda. It's a great boat.
Was it a moonrise when they came on mate? I’m just curious to know
Hi mate, no that was the first thing I checked. The moon set at 2am. LOL
@@robbiefishing haha crazy how you get those days when it happens, I break down good days but I think it’s just right place right time
Any info on the old boys boat Robbie? Size brand etc Looks like a good stable fishing tinny cheers
Hi mate, it's a great boat. It is a Bermuda. I think it is 4.25metres.
@@robbiefishing cheers for the reply mate looking to get a tinny for missus and kids will keep an eye out
The small fish hitting the big lure it likely a defensive bite rather than an eating bite. Doc Lures says alot of bites are the fish defending it's territory as opposed to biting it for a meal.
Hi mate, I definitely believe that. Greg from Doc lures is such a nice guy. I think I was on episode 1 of his amazing podcast. Haha I've been on a couple.
@@robbiefishing yep I've listened to them :)
Hey Robbie got a suggestion for a video. Bait fishing out of a kayak. Find a good spot, anchor down. One rod for cod, one rod for yellas, if they’re biting will be fun.
Thanks so much mate. I have thought about it, but I reckon a canoe would be better.
I get quite stiff sitting in one spot and not moving in my kayak. A canoe is a lot more upright.
@@robbiefishing fair enough Robbie. You do what you feel comfortable. Yeah you’re probably right about that.
@@bussieboy7064 Thanks mate. I am hoping to have a new canoe pretty soon..
The Lower Ovens River???? Did Dad pull the plug out for a few minutes?
Yep, sure is the lower Ovens. 👍👍
I hope you finger is feeling better robbie
Thanks so much mate. I've made a full recovery. ??
Do you do much soft plastics fishing for Redfin? You need to get into plastic fishing for Redfin. I find the best ones are pink 2.5 inch bait junkies in pink and zman 2.5 or 3 inch in motor oil amber or midnight oil are my favorite plastics for Redfin hope you or others find this helpful
Tip the people starting plastics fishing
Dirty Water - Bright lures , Pink , Green , Orange , Yellow.
Clear Water - Natural Colors , Motor Oil , Midnight Oil , Black , etc.
I kayak fish for reddies at a reservoir on crank RPMs and tend to do okay but hit a dry patch after their morning feed. Got talking to a bloke while I was dry and he pulled up 4 on GrubZ while we were chatting for about 10 minutes! Guess what my plan is for next weekend lol
Thanks so much Nathan, I fish for redfin with soft plastics all the time. I love it!!
@@grainovsand3229 haha nice
@@robbiefishing they are so fun
@@nathansoutbackfishing Yep should be good fun, got one rod with the crank RPM for trolling and one lighter rod with pink GrubZ on 1/8oz jighead to get nice and deep in the reservoir. Took your advice to get the pink one for a bit more visibility in there
Oh yeah the fish are gettin bigger 😆
Haha but still not big enough. LOL
That's very strange fishing crap in the morning soon as 10 or 11 bang you're on then shuts down half hour later
Thanks mate. I've seen it before with cod, they're an interesting species that's for sure. Haha
Haven’t watched it yet - i will - but tell me the date when you got them and I’ll have a crack at what time you got them
Hi mate, these were caught last Thursday.
@@robbiefishing half way between the 1st quarter and full moon - my ALL TIME favourite moon phase for natives. You got them between 10 and 11 in the morning (daylight savings time). Moon massive influence on 2nd Feb this year.

First I always wonder “you reckon there is Murray cod around where I live” and I always say, nah prolly not. The only reason is to catch a fish and say “what a ripper fish”.👍👍

Hi Mim, I can't remember exactly which video you are talking about. It's happened a few times. LOL
Good vid. I can't believe some of the stupid comments your getting. As always very entertaining.
Thanks so much Andrew. I haven't seen any on this video but I certainly do get a few. LOL Sadly not everybody is kind.
You are spot on about bait fishing in the middle of the river yet lure fishing from the edge. Makes no sense?
Haha none at all, yet we all do it. LOL
yew
Until i watched you i'd vever use lures like that
I got a 71cm on a ballista hunch back in the ovens it is my new pb
WOW What a beautiful fish, well done mate.
if you dont get a pic you cant call it caught, seeing is believing windows
might need cleaning to see the scenery.
Hahaha
Haha strange how suddenly they switch on the bite. like there's a big cod down the depths..someone say KFC?
Hahaha
skull drage the fish in robie
It's good for their health.
