Dowsing is the safest and most practical way for anybody to make contact with the power of their subconscious. There used to be a whole lot of mystery surrounding how dowsing works but it’s pretty straight forward really and what I will cover in this video is HOW to get to grips with dowsing rods for yourself. I touch on some of the typical issues a learner dowser faces and what to do about them.

Dowsing can be used to find anything
Dowsing is mostly known as a way to find water, but it can be used to find anything.
How does it work
Dowsing is one of those things that a lot of people dismiss without ever trying it. I can see from the viewing stats on my videos that quite a number of people don’t understand what is happening when they see shots of the rods I am using. Presumably for many it looks as though I am either moving them to point in a certain direction or they are just falling that way. That’s not how it works.
Critics use the terms “ideomotor effect” to dismiss dowsing. Ideomotor stems from “ID” from the deep psyche of human beings and “motor” relating to the muscular function of the body. Dowsing works due to subconscious minute muscular movements.
Our subconscious processes around 20,000,000 environmental stimuli per second vs. 40 environmental stimuli interpreted by the conscious mind in the same second. Our brains are filters.
Dowsing is driven by the subconscious, hence the need to allow the mindset (brainwaves) to settle into a different rhythm to normal daily monkey chatter.
How to hold dowsing rods

Other sorts of rods - lightweight or not … it’s up to you: try some different types
Hold them level with the ground.
Rods move inwards to cross to indicate a “yes” and apart for a “no”.
Dowsing do’s and don’ts
I’m going to start with the DON’TS:
DON’T panic and don’t give up too easily if you can’t get the rods to move immediately, it took me 3 days.
There will come a time of testing when it all seems to go wrong. Stick with it and suss it out. This is the point at which you are starting to cement your relationship with your intuitive side of your character. The door to your intuitive power now opens freely when you start to dowse.
DON’T ask exactly the same question twice. It will ALWAYS give you the opposite result.
DO practice. On things that are tangible in the first instance
To start with there might only be a slight movement or only one rod might move.
There will come a time of testing
The right mindset is important and seems to be the same as that required for meditation.
Know yourself. Dowsing is a part of the deepest aspect of you. Love it.

It’s generally recognised that practices such as mindfulness and meditation can have a positive effect for wellness on our lives. Dowsing does this too…
Dowsing is the very best way to harness your intuition and access the influences that are usually kept in the subconscious. Change is possible by harnessing the power of the subconscious

This is an excellent explanation and demonstration of L rods.
I have been dowsing with L rods, Y rods (forked stick), pendulums and bobbers for over 40 years. Dowsing is an excellent way to find answers and whatever you are looking for. Tim has some really good hints for learning to dowse and on improving your dowsing.
It takes most people awhile, maybe even a year or more of frequent dowsing, to perfect their dowsing abilities in a certain area.. Everytime I dowse I learn more and more. It is kind of like learning to play a musical instrument, the more you practice the better you are at it.
Like Tim says, "I wonder how many have given up on dowsing rods once the answers seem to be inaccurate?" What I find, when I think the dowsing system has been inaccurate, is that if I review my question, I actually got the answer to the question I asked! If I write my question or request down, I know exactly what I really asked for.
I encourage people to go to dowsing classes and learn as much as you can from different dowsers. I live in Northern California and I still attend the American Society of Dowsers (dowsers.org) chapter meetings frequently. Dowsers are very interesting people to be around.

To get the best from dowsing rods the first thing is simply been open to what they do. The more you use them the more you will be convinced. Hold them parrallel and ask them a question. hold that thought in your mind and nothing else and they will tell you the truth
I personally believe it's electromagnetism. The earth is a grid of magnetic grids. You can find conductors with another conductor. Just my thoughts
I agree. I think it is tied to the effect of the earths magnetic field somehow.
Nice video Tim. I was shown the use of dowsing rods over 40 years ago to find buried electrical lines, and have used it myself a few times to find underground wires. I always thought it was the rods picking up the electrical field of the AC voltage that made the rods move, until I found plastic water lines also. I'd never heard of using the rods to ask questions of our unconcious minds until recently reading a book describing the technique. I'll give the rods a try for other things now. Thanks for making this knowledge available.

Don't be so mad. Keep trying if you aren't successful. I use special mahogany handled rods and they great at helping me find loose women.
Interesting, yes, I give up trying with them as soon as I find the answers incorrect. I fail the subconscious test! And sometimes they just spin like whirling dervishes! Thanks for the information ❤
Mindset Helen, have a look at the mindset video about brainwave frequencies and see if you can allow enough time to drop into the different brainwave patterns to allow a better connection and more accurate answers to come through. By the way, I still say to people that I really only expect around a 80% success rate, so I really suggest using dowsing as a guidance in life especially for BIG decisions not something to be taken blindly as 100% accurate every single time. Nobody's perfect ... It still can be a great aid to "tuning in" and assisting with intuitive insights...an accompaniment for intuitive gut feelings or messages from spirit for those of us who may not be as sensitive as some Highly Sensitive People out there :)

I have always had a interest in dowsing but working in farming for 30 odd years have never had time to do so
now aged 72 and just retired made a couple of rods from welding rods and tried in back garden with metal in mind only went 6
steps and rods crossed at 45 degrees so got 40yr old metal detector out and found a old penny. I am very much in tune with
nature and have been told by a psychic that i am a healer but have never tried it out other than on a lamb that was convulsing
which recovered never to have another fit and is still living now some 13yrs later, so once we get out of lockdown i will hopefully
give it a good go.

Hi Marya, thanks - the garden is slowly coming along, weeds left to do their own thing while we sort out the basics. We know you need to relax and chill with your rods and get friendly with them, you were doing great dowsing on the workshop where you were relaxed and confident :) try not to get wound up in the dowsers inner conflict and exasperation that can occur :) :)

BTW I still don't reckon on getting 100% accurate results all the time and so suggest that for the really big life questions dowsing is used as an additional guidance to intuitive responses, however else you get them coming to you.
I've recently started with a pendulum and encountered all the pitfalls you mentioned. Does one need to meditate first? If I've already received contradictory responses to a question, how long do I wait before asking again? When I first started I got a clockwise spin for 'yes' and to and fro motion for 'no'. Can I trust that these will stay the same?

Hello Rhonda Take a look at my video about mindstate here: ruclips.net/video/9136h5HGmRQ/видео.html It is important to allow the mind to settle and fall into the different relative brainwave pattern. That's the feeling that you will get as you meditate and if you ever do any healing etc that's a similar feeling too. Try re-framing the question rather than simply waiting a certain time to ask it again. No you cant trust for sure that your pendulum will stay the same especially if you are using a crystal. But its quick to double check each time when you pick it up to use it fro a session. As you get more confident you will know whether you need to check the response each time . It really is about practice practice practice, so try these points I've mentioned here and let me know how you get on.

@@Mihalyofficial focus using a simple meditatyon technique such as mindful meditation as you want to get out of the day to day mindset and into the "receptive" mindset. meditation as a part of your daily monring routine will help your dowsing too.
a great introduction for a hopefully great seres of dowsing vids. Maybe you can make a video about the different reactions of the rods when you go a random way. i always get some reactions like crossing rods, diverging rods, both go to the same direction - but its hard to interprete what it means. i learned to find old mines and the dimensions under the earth, but it would be great if you could explain the reaction of the rods and what is in the earth when this or that rection shows up.

Great idea - dowsing is all about asking the right question and receiving the answer to those questions via the rods or pendulum (so its a conversation in that sense). My grandfather located wells for free with his forked peach tree branch. I've used dowsing far beyond such things. Everyone is born with dowsing ability and everyone uses it in their own way. More evolved dowsers don't even need man-made dowsing tools. Body dowsing, mind dowsing and other forms of dowsing exist.
So interesting regarding asking the same question twice & getting opposite responses! Thanks for this, as I’ve asked myself things twice regarding where I should move to & came up with conflicting answers during muscle testing! Great to know!
It's an interesting one and I did wonder if it might be connected to the whole concept of connecting to the flipside of a reality choice... or simply connecting into the oppposite "spin" of electrons etc but that will get me accused of psuedo science :) :) ...... !

Hey Tim, great work! Very helpful and fun to watch. Yes, clearly some bright person needs to create affordable cases for dowsing rods :D Do you notice a change in dowsing accuracy during certain moon phases and/or planetary alignments? Someone ransacked my car a couple nights ago and took some items i cared about, some i cared nothing about (like parking meter receipts - weird), and left the contents of my glovebox in a neat little pile on the car floor. I pulled the Trickster card from a Native America oracle deck a fews days before that incident. Very apropos. If you care to answer here, what kind of dowsing questions would be most appropriate to ask when narrowing down who (what?) committed theft? Would you prefer to using the rods or pendulum for such inquiry. Again, thanks for the very helpful videos!
Hi Regina, I'll answer each question in turn, but first thanks for the thanks! Dowsing accuracy and the moon phases - good question!! And the answer is I haven't looked into it. As with all things "subtle realm" the relationship between the moon and a person's dowsing will be applicable to each individual. Some people are very affected by the moon while others are not in the slightest. If you keep a journal you may see a correlation for yourself?
Regarding the car break-in - so many things to consider. Firstly what are you trying to find out and why is it that you want to know who did it so that you can get your stuff back or so that you can report them or for what reason? I would initially start by not dowsing but instead think about what the situation as a whole means to me. ie I would say, what does my car represent in my life? (travel movement going forward capability to interact with people - all that sort of stuff, but you need to do it from your perspective not mine) then I would think about what those things that were taken from me all mean to me? Why MIGHT they be better off out of my possession (just saying, as a hypothetical question) And then I would have more information on which to dowse from a more "universe action/reaction point of view ie what might the universe be trying to say to me with this ...is it anything at all or is this just something that happens (in the manner of "s**t happens". The final way of looking at it is just to double check with the elementals in the land where you have made your paths etc recently. Just double check that you haven't upset any of them or indeed taken something from them by making the changes that you have made perhaps without consulting on all aspects regarding how it might affect them? Don't get stressed by this idea though as its just a thought and the little people are very adaptable, so there wont be any harm done, but it s just possible that the universe wants you to be more aware of them as a whole in your life (just saying!) See how you get on and let me know.
If I was outside dowsing I would use my rods, if I was sitting at my desk I would prefer to use the pendulum, for me it is about whats practical ie am I in danger of taking my eye out with the rods swinging around?!! Outside rods are less caught by the wind and are better for direction finding too. Inside rods are great if standing up and chatting with a spirit or a guardian energy personality :)

Hi Tim, I am considering learning about dowsing, partly because of episodes of strange phenomena in my home over the last 15 years, and due to the fact that I have been told by three psychics, each many years apart, that I have a crossing of ley lines through my home. I am aware of unusual activity which is at different degrees at different times. It's not an old house but of course I'm aware the land it's on is the key. I was hoping to learn more about where these energies are, and where they cross in my home, with a view to making the area as spiritually cleansed as I can. Do you think the rods will help with this? Any advice would be appreciated.

I don't feel my home to be negative or in any way troubled by the energies but there are indeed many unexplained occurrences. I feel there are sections of my home that are not at all like others, I felt this as soon as we moved in, almost as if those sections are not merging well with the others. Dowsing rods on the way, looking forward to becoming acquainted with them. I've just watched your "Jane" videos, so many things resonate. There is a room in my house and I'm told a soldier wanders through, I think he is the shadow I keep seeing walking across the hall from that room. The room in question seems to attract mess, it's a dining room but we only use it rarely as we have a kitchen table that is used daily. I cleansed the room last week with white sage and tidied it up. I looked in it earlier and mess is coming back, people just seem to gravitate to dumping stuff in there from shoes to coats, papers etc. It's a cold room and always feels quite odd to be in, like it resents people being in its walls. Last week, something turned my tv on twice and I keep having my eyes drawn to the digital clocks in the house when numbers are duplicated on them, for example 11.11, 16.16, 20.20. Last month there was an episode of the tv turning on by itself at night, volume loud, but this has now stopped. I have recently developed a gentle ringing in one ear that lasts 2 or 3 seconds, and all one side of my body tingles. I am really hoping my rods help me understand these energies more, and work with them.
Great let us know how you get on. Don't get too distracted by things like noticing the clock giving same numbers, its when it starts behaving oddly more akin to your tv that is more significant. Your soldier is probably an echo held in the space rather than a conscious personality but having said that it certainly sounds like the space could do with a jolly good clear out - spiritually. So the underlying intention could be from the management to get you to pay more attention to this spiritual side of life.... s indeed it seems to be for a great many people. Keep in touch on this one and let us know whats occurring. the shadow might not be your soldier and don't get spooked by it being a dark shape as dark shapes don't necessarily mean "bad" its just not quite in our wavelength of light. But whatever you do always get in the habit of putting on psychic protection before you do any of this clearing or dowsing work that way you wont get surprised by anything affecting you that you didn't expect. Its just sensible precaution.

At the moment i suspect you are not framing a clear question in our mind. Dowsing is only really useful when you decide what you are going to ask focus on that question and see how/feel how the rods respond. Its a two-part process. If you want to tune in and receive guidance and your sensitive enough to do so which it sounds like you are (or will be with your own confidence and understanding self-developed a little) then there's often no need to use rods or pendulum. So for you the important thing is to work with what you get and identify where/when you find it happens for you (tinitus in this case) and recognise what the 'language' is that you are being taught. :) :) I think the tinitus in your first description and the indication of "no" was probably saying exactly this :) If you dont want to ask specific questions dont use dowsing rods or pendulum. Dowsing can be limiting/distracting for those who are already able to tune in without the need (or desire) to use it. You may find your way much quicker without such a tool that is there to help the less sensitive of us. Stay grounded, stay well and enjoy your journey.
Thank you for this informative video. I am 71 and when I was little I watched my father dowse with willow branches to find water . I want to learn dowsing and have been researching different rods. Some dowsers say use solid copper, others say brass, and others steel. Dose it matter what material to use. Is one material better than another for a certain purpose for instance one for finding water and another for contacting spirits?
Hi No, it doesn't matter at all. Its entirely up to you and your personal choice as to material, weight etc.

Yes I do, I "dabbled" for a while some years back, then have taken it up again as we live in an "interesting" area and intuitively I knew I had to dowse to understand what was going on. I'm still very much learning and have hit the crossroads stage, where my answers are not always accurate. I am definitely being asked to take what I'm doing seriously rather than just "playing" at it.....So your video was good confirmation of this!

I have a question... what do you think about those supposidle very sensitive dowsing rods with this "electronic box" attach to it... they say they can sense stuff from a long distance. Perosnnaly, I think that we can do it with our normal rods if we are tuned well... but... I might be wrong. What do you think Tim?
Hi Amyah I've not had personal experience of the sort of rods you are describing, I presume they have some purpose in the electronic box for gauging amounts of XYZ the dowser is picking up ie maybe levels of electrical activity for example. So in that case they MIGHT help save time but sensitivity-wise?... no, I don't see that they will help with actual ability to pick up information. The other thing is I guess they MIGHT also help persuade slightly more skeptical people of the efficiency of dowsing, but that's a completely different set of issues to sensitivity of the dowser using whatever rods they choose.
Thank you for your answer... it is approximately what I think but, it is true that if non-dowsers see a "machine with numbers that blinks" then, they might kind of believe. Did or do you experience, when you are searching for... exemple... a certain metal or a flower to not only detect it with your rod or pendulum but also have the smell? I had this experience several times. As I was dowsing on mining sites, I realized that each metals have a distinct smell... it was a pretty unusual experience. I presume that very sensitive dowsers can have all their senses involved in dowsing. It is a very wonderful world. Thank you for your videos... I love them. Oh! A last question... is your kind of rod available to buy somewhere or was it only your mentor who was making them?
Hi What you are describing there by becoming aware of the smell of the metal you were looking for was how effectively you were tuning in to the thing for which you were searching. The key to effective dowsing is to really be able to connect in some way with what you are looking for. So in your case it would seem that your physiology is geared to picking up smells whereas another dowser may look for the same metals for instance but they might "feel" the metal so their body's preferred way of processing the information would be geared more towards "feeling" things ie the sense of touch instead of smell. I expect that you have many of the other senses at play as well and not just the sense of smell but I guess that it struck you as being unusual. Most dowsers say they can feel the dowsing response in their body in some way either just before the rods or pendulum responds or as it does so. This opens up the whole area that I haven't touched on anywhere in my videos yet - that of using a "witness". A witness in this context is having a small piece of what you are looking for present with you as you dowse for the larger area of it. So if you were dowsing for a lead seam in a hillside for example, then you would have a very small piece of lead with you as you dowsed, That would enable your senses to tune in to find the much bigger buried lead deposit as it gives information about what you are looking for to your subconscious (in this instance via your conscious awareness)
Just a note I have been using dowsing, in agricultural setting for years, but recently picked up a nasty feeling on a strong line, scared me a little.

Get 3 groups of people, map out underground water in 3 locations, 1 with high probability of hitting a vein anywhere you dig. A second with a moderate probability of hitting anywhere you dig. A third with a low probability of hitting water anywhere you dig. 1st group should consist of experienced and successful dousers, the 2nd should have the process of dousing explained to them and attempt it as first timers. A third group should consist of people from who pick sites at random. This should be repeated at all 3 sites. If no significant difference between results is found, it's all pretty much random chance, but if a significant difference between results is found then there might be something to what you say. I'm not dismissing your opinion at all. I'm just saying that it would be a good way to know for sure.

I think its all about balance and gravity. You eventually get to the base of the vortex of the surrounded land. You find the lowest point which could have heavy metals or water which settled there over the ages.
Hi TIm. Great video. Other videos recommend a rod 20" inclusive of the handle. Can I used a shorter rod since a 20" rod using a 5" handle gives me 15" of projection which makes it difficult to maneuver and carry around.
Yes there is no need for specific length of rods to use - go for whatever you feel most comfortable with. There are some extendable versions that are light weight and you can get from American Society of Dowers or the BSD here in UK which also come with a carrying pocket/pouch - they might be useful for you.
Intuition is referred to often by many in the esoteric world as the high mind or the etheric sheath or body, which is often placed on a cosmological position next to soul. The etheric body is described as souls primary body as it enters into the realms of duality. As such, those who are in tune with their true selves receive clearer communication from the high mind or etheric body, and therefore those people are described as more intuitive. Dowsing seems to me to be a primitive method for opening a line of communication using the etheric body, and it seems that as one becomes more in tune with soul, or ones true self, then such methods could be dropped altogether, and a simple knowing without a physical medium like dowsing rods could be employed. Any thoughts?
Your highly details description and observation, I think, is right :) Dowsing is the easiest way for those who are unused to harnessing their intuition to learn the ropes as it were. Dowsing opens up the channels and helps the connections be made so as one develops ones ability to dowse one also develops ones own access to instinct/intuition/gut reaction/subtle perception .... Some dowsers do indeed abandon their tools in due course, some people who are already highly sensitive don't ever bother with using the tools in the first place. My own journey took me via dowsing to explore the world of intuitive contact and for me led to working with different forms of energy of personalities within the different layers that sit next to our dimension. I went through a period where I stopped dowsing and relied upon my communication with my spirit guides, but as I am not a natural performer (I mean that in the most fundamental sense and not to denigrate stage mediums) I was more confident going back to dowsing as a support for information that I could then feel I was reliably able to pass on with some usefulness to my clients. These days I use a combination of the dowsing and the connection to "spirit". Its also important in all this to remain properly grounded for most of the time in the very real and necessary physical world of practicalities. As in all things a balance of intuition and practical logical thinking is essential for wellness.

Yes, exactly. When we dowse its like we connect to a field of information. As we dowse and stay in our initial connection we CAN ask that question again, immediately, if we dont disconnect, but usually when learning to dowse what happens is that the person asks a question, they get a result they are not sure about (because they are learning) and in that moment of thinking logically "Oh maybe I didnt get that right" or whatever, its like they disconnect and then when they dowse again they re-connect at a slightly different point to the field of information and it often comes back with the opposite response. I dont know why. Sceptics would say its 'cause dowsing doesnt work, but if you practice and if you trust then the dowsing gets better and you get more confidence and although it is never 100% "right" the answers get mroe reliable. I suggest not asking the same question twice in order to help the confidence of the novice dowser for this reason.
My father used something like this to find sex of any thing, plants or animals. He ties a gold ring at a end of string then if it moves vertically then its a male (I think) if it makes circles then it's female. I don't remember which was which but i know that he was right all the time. He used this on eggs for our farm and plants in our ranch.

Two other of my family members and I got the rods to cross on the same spot.
Neither of us asked any question. I did not tell them where my rods crossed to make sure they were not cheating, I just asked them to do the experiment by walking on a straight line which would pass by the point the rods crossed for me.
What does this mean?.
You found a spot of crossing earth energy or a spiral, most likely, and they then dowsed to find the same spot - you said you told them to find the same spot that your rods crossed so that is what they have done. The question is really what did you find at that spot when your rods crossed. You will see from other comments here that rods will cross even if you don't ask a specific question, it not great dowsing protocol as although often this will be an earth energy line crossing point or a spiral but unless you ask a direct question you wont know what your rods are telling you in their response.
I have just learned about dowsing. I would like to learn more and be able to dows myself one day. Is it possible to communicate with animals or past loved ones?
The main thing is to practice as much as you can on things that you can verify and check are accurate. Then once you have got confident start on things that are more metaphysical.

Hello Michael the only real difference it would make is whether the weight FELT better for you . Nothing wrong with bending wire coat hangers many a good dowser has started with them but they are very light and also do you feel an emotional attachment or a value in those rods? Your relationship to your rods can make a difference too - do you feel comfortable do you LIKE those rods (do you LOVE them?) :) :) So not so much about what they are made of more about how you feel with them ...

Its not so much about one being more suited to beginners, although like you i found rods much easier than pendulum. Rods are great for outside work and for locating stuff, whereas pendulum is good for inside house work perhaps when a client is with you and you are working quietly in an intense space. Basically rods dont get blown about as much as pendulum and rods will point against wind direction too when outside. Personal preference - no need to feel one is "better" than the other.

I have only seen figures out the corner of my eye and in my peripheral vision. I have seen a lady dressed in long black dress zoom silently across part of my garden on a bright summer's day. She was going faster than a running speed and with no sound and no visual indication of legs moving. That was odd. I have seen what appear like cartoon characters attached to people at shoulder level too... and heard things :)
I tend to regard spirit and spectres etc as "normal" rather than paranormal but of course that is the label that we all recognise. You will find that earth energy is a very natural thing but it links in with all sorts of forms of consciousness... as does spirituality. It's all subtle energy - so things that are at the extreme edges of our perception.
Divination is the ascertaining of information by the interpretation of omens or an alleged supernatural agency. In other words, you are accessing the spiritual realm but on the side of witchcraft, tarot, psychic, so on and so forth. However, accessing spiritual energy (or subtle energy) is an extension of the natural energies in which we have existed as a species for eons and are a part of creation. In our human selves we have emotions of extremes: love and hate and all stops in between and so when we access the subtle realms we also have the ability to access subtle extremes too. Caution is advised on the spiritual path so one treads forwards with confidence about what one is encountering. Dowsing remains the safest way to access any of this potential and is linked very closely with intuition .

I would love to hear your theory on why asking the same question multiple times seems to always yield conflicting results! And I got giddy with excitement when you brought up asking the same one twice and you said "never ever do that". This is because any time I do a coin flip for some answer, I stop after the first decisive flip. (if I drop the coin and I feel that "whatever it's on, that's the answer", then I take that answer. But if I drop it and feel "I should re-flip", I'll pick it up and flip it properly.) I just always figured that ignoring the first answer is like betraying your belief in the practice.
Also, quick question. Do you believe that the force turning the rods is NOT of your hand, or that it IS of your hand? Because I carefully examined and it does seem that your hands, as well as the hands in the various dowsing videos I've come across, experience movement (I'm NOT trying to be accusational by the way). Hello Bret - I can only theorise and any scientific minded who may read this will have fits of apoplexy about the repeated asking of questions I think that we connect (somehow) on the zero-point field to the object we are looking for, I don't know what aspect of an atom it might be: electrons, photons ...who knows, but I wonder if as we connect we set up a bridge in that first attempt to an aspect of 'spin' of the electron etc and by asking the exact same question again we set up the link to the alternative 'spin'. I realise that the word 'spin' as used in physics isn't actually spin but I assume (lack of knowledge) that designated pattern of movement defined as 'spin' is only anti-clockwise or clockwise. It's my 'musings' and not scientific and not based on anything precise. What I do know from experience is that we must as any person such as a clairvoyant does we must link in to the quantum soup, the zero point field in some way. Animals such as birds have been proven to do this and so it is only a matter of time before it is proven that humans too have quantum process going on in us. To me dowsing is a quantum process a link into that energy field that can give us information, but it is driven by intuition which in itself is only an extreme version of what psychology calls System 1 thinking. (That is intuitive/instant rather than logical which is System 2 thinking). All this doesn't rule out the "mystical", it is my attempt to rationalise what occurs and how we might interact with a field of existence that science knows exists and in which we seem to be able to experience a lot of the phenomena that sensitives and mystics have experienced for literally eons.
In answer to your second question: I think the most common dowsing response is a subconscious reaction of the body to the thought. hence the use of the contentious phrase that cynics use to dismiss dowsing ie the ideomotor effect. Ideomotor is the unaware (subconscious) action of the body. An effective dowser will remove their attention from the dowsing tool and go by the feeling they receive and hence one can detect a 'yes' or 'no' even before the pendulum or rod has started to move. Now, I have said that MOST dowsing responses are like this. BUT I suggest that not all are. I have also experienced situations where the hand has been resting on a table with a rod sitting stationary and then in repose to a question "what is your name" the rod has spelled out from an alphabet letters of a name. That happened to me when communicating with spirit years ago when new to all this and at the time THAT was spooky! Not only did the rod swing from a standing start but it also spelled the letters in succession J A N E so it went back and forth across the alphabet. In this respect this particular example is like a ouija board which I have never used and I don't advocate using. But I mention this dowsing example to illustrate that I don't think ALL dowsing for everyone is simply a subconscious reaction every time.

I'm not saying I will do it, because I don't currently want to invoke anything that will put me in over my head, but this shows that a ouja board, or any 'ceremonial' type of array, with symbols is not necessary for tapping into that zero point field. (by zero point, does that mean the yang of yin yang? like the nothing which opposes the something, or the unity as opposed to the separation?) Of course I now have EVEN MORE curiosities about the subject, and don't think I can ever lose my passion for all of this big mess (in a good way) of an experience lol
Oh, and yes, a spin, or rotation that exists only on one plane is only ever clockwise or counterclockwise. But the technicality is that 1 of the 2 can occur on all 3 planes of rotation, roll pitch and yaw (x,y,z). And when asking a binary question, I would imagine that to be akin to rotating only on a single plane. (the following is now my 3rd edit on this post haha) p.s. I think it's worth mentioning that I can't remember a time when I have heard the word apoplexy nor apoplectic, until earlier today. And I felt the need to look up the definition and remember it, and now hours later here I am, seeing you use the word apoplexy.
Thank you so much for the clarification of 'spin' ... interesting ...it does reiterate to me the relatively 'thin' existence we have access too via our senses here in this physical dimension compared to those conscious aspects being aware in the dimension next to ours, ie the zero point field. That is the quantum level of existence where particles appear and disappear and nobody knows where they go or come from...zero-point field that is the place from which all in this dimension is created, hence to answer your question I consider it to be "the unity as opposed to the separation" and to also be inhabited by the angels and archangels, who might be considered as (some of) the architects of our reality....

Hi Tim nice video its the best one I have found so far. I have tried finding water and been semi successful I fully relate to your thinking on trust the first answer and you must be receptive and confident. I always ask Gaia before I try and pay full credit for finds to Mother Earth as I am just a vessel. We have together located water and accurately "within 1 meter" found two underground sources 1 on top of the other. It was very interesting as the hole was cored and the fractures/water in the rock were measurable at 16m and 19m, before beginning the drilling 15m and 20m were the target, so not bad for a novice. As you have described I got cocky and fell apart I do believe that it was a test and yes failure was the result. I also believe that it is a gift and for my part can not be sold but must be given and payed forward. I am going to click on your channel and have a look around once again nice vid and thanks. To doubters it matters not as your opinion is as important as mine and mine is it does work, happy hunting.

Morning Tim we are going to drill again in the next fortnight hopefully a good source this time as its getting expensive but there is nothing without water. Since my failings I have refrained from dowsing because I felt like I had lost the gift but your explanation has helped rejuvenate my belief. Today I am going to apply your thoughts and try again to establish "recheck" the location, quality, quantity and depth of our proposed site. We are in granite country so drilling is hard but everyone around us has good bores, we are a bit higher but I believe Mother Earth has something for us and will provide. Our needs for water are purely to green/grow our little spot which is sparse but coming along, more water would mean more trees, wildlife, grasses etc. I do believe if our intentions are to enhance and not pillage the universe will be with us, like you I believe we are all one. A simple explanation for this is the atom, all things are made from the same basic component which under scrutiny is mostly air the atom. Yet in "reality" ours of course, a rock is different to a feather yet all have the same fundamental building blocks, truth can never be reached because there is so much to be learnt and that may be the biggest secrete of the universe. It is not necessary to understand everything but it is important to believe.
Kurt I'd also recommend if you can afford it getting hold of a professional water dowser in your area if your livelihood depends upon it. A professional will have years of practice and know precisely where to find a good source for you usually with the first drill. I thought from your first comment that the water you had found was good enough for your needs, but now it sounds as though it wasn't perhaps? I usually recommend people who are dowsing start with questions that that are less critical and once they have gained experience move to more important ones. My mentor Hamish Miller brought in a professional water dowser when he wanted a bore hole drilling on his land even though he was a proficient dowser in a different area of expertise. Trust is a great thing but sometimes we also need to be practical and sometimes the management are giving us a completely different lesson to the one we think we are getting. I wish you all the very best and I wish you well but I also urge caution as only you can tell if your course of action is the best one to take.
Agreed 100% we have had 2 dowsers look at it as well as myself and I have only confirmed their findings. One only found drilling site, the other found site and confirmed viability and quality I am aiming to find depth. Will let you know how we go after the drill. The driller is a no water no charge and one of his stipulations is he must choose the site by divining so if we are on the money he will confirm the spot.

Thanks for commenting. I'm actually trying to illustrate the exact opposite. that dowsing is NOT anything special! Dowsing is just a facet of what psychology refers to as "System 1" thinking, which is intuitive and spontaneous, not "System 2" which is logical and analytical processing.
@@KnightsRose I understand what you are saying. I think dowsing is an somehow related to conductivity of the body. Some people have it, others to a lessor degree. In 200 years, people will have a much better understanding of how the body and brain work, just as we know much more than those of 200 years ago.

Hi some professional dowsers do work fro exploration companies. Others use dowsing along with metal detectoring to find metal stuff beneath the ground. I wasn't very good at finding things so I do what I do. If you google dowsing and treasure I think you will some up with some videos of guys who have had some success. I know you think its nonsense, I don't blame you either, but I'd recommend you try it and see how you get on - you never know you might hit some thing valuable?
I might strike something valuable by buying lottery tickets as well... You flat out avoided my claim. If dowsing worked, it wouldn't be used in "some" exploration. It'd be used as the norm. Since it is not, then you yourself would possess a power that would net you more than "some" treasure. Fossils, oil, gold, gems, precious metals, etc would be in complete control of the dowsers... but NONE of them are. Stop lying, to yourself, and others. And stop taking money from people. The fact that the rods themselves can be made from any material, or bought over the internet shows the rods themselves are nonsense.
If you truly think someone has subconscious ability to locate natural resources, then those people would be working in every company that deals in said natural resources. Yet, you are just a con artist who takes people's money to "clean" their house. Witchcraft, voodo, dowsing, and so forth... a bunch of complete fabrication that sociopaths such as yourself use to con unfortunate people.
And, let's say you don't want people's money. Then, the fact that you don't simply use your dowsing bullshit to locate the most suitable farmland to help starving nations' agriculture makes you a terrible being, just the same. Recently acquired a pair of dowsing rods and a guide on dowsing and was just walking around the house to try and, well, basically just walk and keep the rods as stable as possible, when I reached a certain spot in my hallway, the rods crossed over and went back forward again as I moved on, I turned around and retraced my steps to the same spot and nothing happened, but when I retraced my steps again they crossed over again and then faced forward again but this time, when I turned around and retraced my steps again, they reacted and crossed over again, this happened four times in exactly the same spot.....what does this mean, my mind was clear and I didn't ask any questions?
Hello Paul We cant actually tell what it means for sure if you don't ask a direct question in order to receive a clear response :) The rods will react to your surroundings but if you ask a question like "show me the most powerful and beneficial earth energy centre in my flat/house" and you follow where the rods take you then you have asked a question that can be clarified. Dowsing is a two-stage process ask a Q and receive a response from the rods, even if that response is to show you a direction in which to walk to a certain spot. Best example question to get used to the rods actually is "Am I standing up?" The rods will tell you yes or no. Start by dowsing for things that you know the answers to already to get the feeling for it. Does that help?

I've held rods before and they started doing a brisk swing 180 degrees. It was odd because they usually just crossed.
Hello Melissa - usually crossing rods indicates and "yes" response and a 180 degrees swing away from each other usually represents a "no". Ask to be shown your "yes" and they should cross. Then ask to be shown your "no" and they should swing outwards as you describe, but your responses MIGHT be the other way around, so don't be surprised if that is the case. Sometimes they are.
@@KnightsRose thanks for the reply! They weren't swinging away from each other. They were swinging together, parallel to each other like a sweep, not away from each other. I held it up over my head at 90 degree to see the response and they had a stronger sweep. I was in an area where I've always thought the most water was. It was interesting.

To use dowsing effectively you need to thing of it as a two-stage process first stage is ask a question that can be answered with a yes or a no. Second stage is watch the rods respond with that yes or no. :) You were asking a question in your head and that is fine as the impetus for dowsing response is built upon the intention to find the specific thing being asked about (in your case, underground water). Best to just keep the rods at sort of elbow level and more or less parallel to the ground for best most reliable response. Rods that end up sitting next to each other ie crossed and parked with tips facing the other hand is basically the same response as crossing rods is a "yes" or can be used to mark the position of a feature such as underground water line beneath where the rods are.

Hi Your best best is to contact a dowser who is experienced in finding lost things in the physical realms, as I work more in the subtle realms. So google either the British Dowsers (GB) or American Society of Dowsers (USA) and they will put you in touch with somebody that does this often and they will dowse for you remotely.

Yes absolutely. Get a bit of practice first and then have a go. If money depends on the outcome then you might find you are attached to the outcome so in that case blind dowse it instead ie write on two identical bits of paper a "Yes" on one and a "no" on the other. Make sure they are identical and turn them over. mix them around a bit and then ask which piece of paper has the correct result for the mare to indicate if she is in foal? Phrase a question something like that. See how you get on.

I suspect it's one of the new tenants. I wrote down the name of all the tenants in my building. Hello Irma yes you can a have a good go at it once you are confident with what you are doing. once you have got familiar with your rods or pendulum, google "blind dowsing" as the biggest problem you will have is getting completely detached from the personal nature of what you are trying to find out and also removing any emotion from the seeking too!. I havent yet made a video about "blind" dowsing, but intend to in due course. Dont forget though, I dont suggest that dowsing is 100 accurate all the time so if I were you I would be careful about accusing anybody on the basis of what you might find by dowsing (especially as you are new to it) , however, it will give you some further information to think about and add to what you decide to do about the thefts.

I'll let you know how it goes. I read a book by Jean Haner on Dowsing. I ordered the rods. Two came in the box but I didn't know why. I just began using one, to look for items I've lost - it's worked 3 out of 4 times. This was super casual use. I'm definitely going to work on the home clearing. I'm interested on Feng shut which is also about creating better energy in the home. I am so glad I found your channel.

All good. Ive just done experiments with dowsing and I want to understand how you overcome the propensity for the balance of the rods to tilt in conjunction with the axis of the handle. Its akin to the effect of carrying a plate with a marble on it and believing that you are keeping the plate level. You cant- its simple physics. The subtle 'off axis' of your hands as you move allows the rods (which are weighted away from the axis) to swing with the same physical result as the marble on a plate.- I was disappointed to discover this as the initial "feel" of the rods shifting dramatically felt somewhat supernatural. - Any tips- as Ive consciously kept the rods absolutely level and they cease to behave so "alarmingly well".
Have you watched this old one of mine - that may help ruclips.net/video/IyN4oK15vgA/видео.html I like the plate and marble analogy although to me that suggests that you are using rods that are way too light for you. You may be using some with "handles" around the vertical section that you hold? There are some rods that use "sleeves" around the handles but for me those are awful, they just swing around all over the place. The last thing you want is to be focusing on what the rods are actually doing in your hands. I know that sounds crazy but what your mind wants to be focusing on is the object that you are looking for, whether that is a real thing or an answer to a specific question. The more you worry about how the rods are sitting in your hands the less likely you are to get a good response. You will notice when the rods move without having to pay much attention to them. SO... I suggest: try using rods that are slightly heavier, don't use sleeves. Always start with your arms holding the rods down by your sides, bring them up into the search position (like six-shooters) wait for them to settle and then ask the question that you want to get an answer for. If you cant keep the rods level with the ground then its best to favour a slight tilt downwards of the tips otherwise the rods will fall back towards you or worse you end up with a circular motion of spinning rods like helicopter blades. Some people can dowse like that but its not recognised good practice as it doesn't really maximise the efficiency of the question and answer process that dowsing is good at using. Let me know how you get on .... the other thing of course is that if you are a creative person you may be getting a strong response that is surprising you?? Let me know anyway :) cheers
Tim , I am struggling with Pendulum dowsing ,sometimes I get the results but sometimes not..I aim to master this for healing.
try "taking a step back" and have a go with rods. You will have to leave your frustration behind too in order to start gaining more confidence. Its tricky when one gets in a negative loop like this. Just leave it alone for a while if you don't want to try using rods. Or drop me a line and we can try to sort it out in a 1 to 1 online session.

Hi Tim. I used the dowsing rods going towards my partner and they opened up. He used them towards me and they crossed. Why? I know its the energy aura field but why does his open and mine cross. Is it the directions of the energy?
You are both detecting the auric field or heart charkra, perhaps (depends on which you were looking for) but your partner's dowsing response for indicating the "edge" is different to yours. In this case I would say that the differnces are not about the flow of the energy you are looking for but of the way that you are each likely to respond to the dowsing stimulus. Its not uncommon for example for people to get rods moving apart as a "yes" indication despite most people getting rods crossing together as the "yes" indication and a ot of dowsing instruction says the "yes" is the rods crossing. But it really doesnt matter as long as you know which it is that the rods are indicating. When learning this may change and then settle down to one response, so keep an eye on it and check every now and then which is your "yes" (and hence your 'location indicator' too) and which is your "no".

it doesn't really matter, its personal choice as to what feels good for you as a dowser. There are loads of different sizes. These rods were made specifically for me by my mentor blacksmith, Hamish Miller and they measure 30cms x 12 cms . similar ones can be bought from Penwithpress.co.uk or the British Society of Dowsers (or American Society of Dowsers) also sell a huge variety of rods in both size and weight.

A friend told me he forgot the location of the water pipes in his yard so he used dowsing, i was skeptical so we dowsed around my yard and sure enough the rods crossed around the general area of the main water pipes. So I became curious, and now I'm here.
I am reading this to see what his experience is.
We live in the country and made rods with coat hangers just for fun. It actually worked when I walked over our buried water pipe. I never asked questions, just walked and the rod moved. I find it fascinating.

Hello David I learned dowsing by myself and the notion of permissions wasn't one that came into my awareness until many years after I had been dowsing at which point I regarded them as being more or less unnecessary. However, if on occasion my dowsing gives me "silly" results I ask the question "is it OK to ask this?" or if I feel before I ask about a particular issue that it may be "sensitive" i ask if it is OK then, but otherwise I don't ask permissions. The management are in charge of the information flow so if its not appropriate I won't get the info. Formal teachings such as those from the BSD will advocate asking permissions and that's entirely appropriate not least because a formal training should be consistent from different teachers working under the same instructional "banner". I usually suggest if a particular system works for an individual, use it, if it doesn't, try another approach.
what if they wont stop spinning
Are you using holders for the rods or are they just sitting your hands? If you are using holders, take them out. The way you are holding them and compensating for them at this stage is most probably causing the spin because they don't have enough friction. Once you have got used to using them you may then find that you go to places where they do indeed still spin in your hands and then you will be more familiar with the way they feel and more experienced and can then judge for yourself what is going on . Most likely if this happens it means you are are at quite a powerful earth energy centre. However many consider spinning "poor dowsing practice".... its not very helpful especially for a beginner, mainly because you get limited into one way of working with the rods and the process can offer you so much more.
I'm wondering if a robot could be designed to hold the rods and go in the direction the rods guide it. That would be a sure way of removing conscious influence.

Yes, thanks adam, as you already realise the more "sensitive" a person is the easier it is for them to do it without a dowsing device. Using the same "formula" of asking a closed question to get a yes or no response without a dosing implement but using a part of teh body for a response is called deviceless dowsing and of course working straight from intuition is the direct unencumbered process of working with ones intuition.... Learning to dowse is a great way for many to start to harmonise and reconcile both teh logical and intuitive aspects of being human.

Its incredibly difficult. Most of us want to but in my experience it hasnt really roved very successful. Hello Ross, yes it can be a very similar experience for the dowser - of course it's different for each dowser, but yes, I get a sense about things and impressions too - as you say it's like remote viewing where we get "downloads" or packets of information being received about something it's not often a linear consistent flow of images or sound etc. You may enjoy some of the other videos on this channel as we touch on remote viewing in some of them too.

Hi thanks for commenting. I'm sure some people can get 100% accurate results but I don't profess to do so and my point is that most people can't but that shouldn't put them off dowsing. Everybody can dowse and the more we practice the more likely we can get to our best possible "hit rate" and it will develop as "the management " upstairs wants it to develop for us. :)
Tim have you ever considered that you are deluding yourself given that many dowsers have been tested and have been proven that they only get what would be a result by random choice? And given that you even know about the Ideomotor phenomenon but still believe you can dowse is incredible? When you said to practice dowsing and know roughly when the item is, surely that gives you a clue that you have given a clue to your mind where to make the rods move to? Did you ever consider trying to win the James Randi $1million challenge? Many have on dowsing and failed. Too late now anyway, it has been withdrawn. After 9 mins watching your video I heard you mention "Frequency" and "Channeling" OH boy, now you're getting deep into it hey?
Hi yes i have often considered that i might be deluding myself. However having asked myself that question for over twenty years I remain convinced that all dowsing is, is that which I explain in the video - its a natural instinctive reaction... its not right 100% of the time but it enables information to be picked up that cannot be explained by usual Newtonian type science. Its an extreme example of differences between type 1 and type 2 thinking where intuitive responses overcome logical deduced ones. Just as there are many experiments that deduce dowsing is no more than chance there are also experiments that conclude otherwise such as many of those by scientist researcher Dean Radin. Thanks for stopping by and thanks fro commenting in a reasoned way :) we beg to differ on our acceptance of this stuff.

Found this - "Radin's ideas and work have been criticized by scientists and philosophers skeptical of paranormal claims.The review of Radin's first book, The Conscious Universe, that appeared in Nature charged that Radin ignored the known hoaxes in the field, made statistical errors and ignored plausible non-paranormal explanations for parapsychological data". - So he isn't a good example to use to justify your belief in dowsing I would think. Can you point me to his dowsing experiments? I would be interested in seeing them and how they compare to all the other tests I've seen that ALL show dowsing fails miserably?
See if you can get hold of a copy of his latest book. Its an interesting read. You seem to be genuinely interested despite being cynical so I would suggest actually trying dowsing yourself. If I can find the time (!) I will go through some of Radin's stuff and see what I can find for you but Its a bit pointless us both trying to find examples of other people's work to justify something we both believe in from opposite ends of the scale. Its not about objectivity its about the subjective experience of what goes on and I do accept that we are all influenced by our cognitive biases and all sorts of subconscious inputs all the time. I get that, I also get that there are many things that are still unknown about the way we function as animals/biological mechanisms. btw I think Derren Brown is fabulous and think he is really clever as a mentalist (there's a label) programming the subconscious of those he is working with. I get that the science minded logical thinkers of society need proof and dislike what they perceive as woo-woo nonsense but behind much of the hype or seeming woolly-ness of the way a lot if it is presented to us there is something that "happens" and that is what is really interesting. I cant tell you what that is, as I don't know the system I don't understand how it works, but for me it involves faith and spirituality and from a scientific point of view I think it is extremely difficult to provide evidence for either way especially when those conducting the experiments (on either side of the line) have vested interests in the result. I think this really hit home in a conversation I had a few years back with prof Paul Davies (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Davies) who said its not that science dismisses the role of consciousness in science its just that they cant put it into an equation.
LOL I won't be trying dowsing anytime soon or finding that book and good to know you've heard of woo woo. The ones who conduct all the dowsing experiments don't have a vested interest on how the results come out. It's a double blind study. As Richard Feyman said “It doesn't matter how beautiful your theory is, it doesn't matter how smart you are. If it doesn't agree with experiment, it's wrong.”
You're quite right science is indeed built upon double blind, However the mainstream at whatever period of science has a vested interest in maintaining the status quo, at keeping the established set of laws and observations until such time that they can no longer be held to be true - that's the whole point of scientific method, to establish objective set of cicumstances from which to build forward. You'll know that and indeed that is what you will say you are facing me with. But when I say the vested interests I talk about the whole of science not the individual experiment. Like I said to start with we can both find examples to support our views either way. and while I can understand that you enjoy challenging people on their woo-woo beliefs its just your fun. Its not going to change anybody's belief. In many ways I am grateful to you for contributing to the conversation and for doing so mostly in a polite way. :)
I'll leave you with this, which you will undoubtedly want to challenge too :) Professor Jessica Utts is chair of the statistics department at the University of California at Irvine. In 2016 she was also president of the American Statistical Association (ASA), the world's largest community of professional statisticians. In her presidential address to the ASA, a meeting attended by 6,000 statisticians Utts said this, "The data in support of precognition and possibly other related phenomena are quite strong statistically and would be widely accepted if it pertained to something more mundane.... I think people are justifiable skeptical because most people think that these abilities contradict what we know about science. They don't." I believe some of her talks can be found on youtube too.
Whether we like it or not there is a growing movement in the fields of consciousness studies and areas of specialisation such as quantum biology and epigenetics that suggest a radical re-alignment of science will soon take place. Whether or not that realignment includes some of these so called psi features remains to be seen.

yes, or vice versa. That's why it's so important to take ego out of the equation, and do your best to silence the "monkey mind", because it can mislead you. But on the same token, sometimes, being mislead by that part of our mind IS the correct answer to our question haha. What a funny thing divination is. Sorry, I don't understand what you mean. Do you want to clarify?
The intention is by far the most important part of any divination practice (and anything else in life lol). You can have impeccable form, but if you're unsure of whether it will work or not, it's unlikely that you will be getting any answers. You can also do a "yes or no" type of divination with a simple coin flip. Whether you catch the coin and turn it onto your free hand, or catch the coin and just open the catching hand (giving the opposite result of flipping it onto your free hand), the answer you get will be the right one in the moment.

That's right - its not magic. Ideomotor effect = unconscious movement of the muscles hence movement of the hands. It's intuitive not conscious.

I do not believe this guy at all !! I can tell you I can grab two smooth rods, not thinking about a damn thing and take off walking and it works...
