A modern tatched roof where the roof itself is closed off and isolated is just as firesafe as a normal roof. In this case the tatch is basically ornamental, since the roof itself is already closed of to the elements. You really want a closed roof anyway, since the Rc value of an old open tatched roof is about 1.5 and you really at least want an Rc value of 6 or higher.
