Hand pumps are still really common in the UK. You'd struggle to find a pub that didn't have a few hand pumps.
As a Brit, I am the complete opposite to Emmet. Pretty much all the beer I have drunk comes out of a "beer engine" :)
Thank god for beer engines. Always remember the vital critical saying... Cask is king!
Now you've got a beer engine try a cask conditioned Golden best bitter as drunk by many in Northern England. The key is some torrified wheat to give some body and the West Yorkshire ale yeast which attenuates quite high to give a bittersweet rich taste. When pouring put the sparkler on the pourer and put that to the bottom of the glass.
Word's of the wise
Made my Friday. Love these videos.
My friend owns a pub here in the UK and throws so much cask ale away because it’s only really good for ~5 days due to oxidation. Beautiful beers but require a lot of ‘looking after’
Time in the keg will clear it out. I made an Irish Red last month and it took 10 days in the cold to round out and clear up fully. I used Wyeast Irish Ale. Mine isn't as dark - too light even. I pitched a 2 liter starter cuz I didn't want to decant. May have diluted it. Also only used 5 oz of roasted barley and c120. Also used Golden Promise. It's tasting really good. Less caramel than Smithwicks but VERY similar. Has a nice snappy and mild taste.
This video, it pleases me. Thank you Emmet. Time to watch it again.
This comment is also quite pleasing.
Very nice, lads!
we have a pub here in Seattle that serves all their beers on engines, it's pretty cool to see and very different to most fully carbed beers.
Do I need a beer engine? Probably not, do I want a beer engine? Absolutely
You won't regret it and it looks cool af!
Emmet and Ross have such a chaotic energy every time they brew together.
Ross is chaotic good and Emmet is chaotic neutral
Very cool Guy's. Love your products.
Love the Lizzy T- Shirt🤘 I’ll have to try to make that beer. Looks a lot like Smithwicks.
Your Swan comment was spot on as the spout on this type of beer engine is known as a Swan neck.
Ross and emit are awsome. Love yalls videos guys. Y'all make me laugh all the time.
Y’all Rock!
nice save Ross - good thing it was still boiling in the kettle to sanitize that clipboard!
So rad on the engine!! Getting my motor revvved boiis
Another great vid. When he dropped the clip board I almost pissed my pants laughing
Great job Fellows
another great one!
🤘🤘🤘🤘
M-M-M-MANDATORY BEER... engine?
Love a good irish red.
I regularly brew a Irish red its a great beer, have a dedicated tap for that or a Scottish shilling or a good old English bitter 👍🍻
As someone who lives in the North of England, those pours would have been sent back for a top up, I'm paying for a pint of beer, not for 9/10 of a pint and 1/10 foam.
Oh, we topped em up
So, did you guys put it in a keg with a low pressure co2 charger and a spunding valve to simulate a cask? Can't wait for the How-to...Love this style, very enjoyable brew session - Cheers!
Dude my name is Emmett and these videos are wilds for me
Just bought a beer engine two months ago :)
Watching one on eBay now😉
Yes! The Irish red
You guys are crazy 😄
I was going to post a comment about where was Ross for the electrical on the last video but the into solved that.
I'm from Ireland an never heard of that beer 🤣
Hello from Ireland. Send Emmet back home to us, we need to have a talk about his engaging in those potato stereotypes 🤣🤣🤣
I have wanted to get into cask ale and get a beer engine for a while. I could never understood why finding a beer engine in the United States is so hard and why they are sooo expensive.
What do you think about a Shandy for summer???
Best start ever 😂😂😂🤣
So glad you brewed this in the 20g. I just ordered that unit today and then wondered if it's appropriate for 5g batches. 🤘
Yes, You can use it for a 5 gallon batches as well as 10!
I'm a homebrewer and metal head nice to see some metal represented in the video venom shirts not much into black metal but still metal
You guys should throw some hop rhizomes in that compost corner, probably peak growing conditions
Hey look it's Trent Musho!
Duds and suds! Laundry and beer. LOL
Killians is owned by AB, Irish red was a bit of a marketing ploy
He hooked the lid 😂😂😂 rad!!! When’s the 20 gallon available?

If I had to kick-start something to get my beer, sometimes I'd have trouble.
The struggle is real sometimes.
How does this compare to Killian‘s Irish red?
Nice one guys, did the handpull come with a sparkler? to screw on the nozzle? try that, screw it on tight then back it off half a turn, put the nozzle as far down in the glass as possible and leave it there throughout the pour. About 5psi on the keg to assist and it'll look like a nitro pour with the tight bubbles in the head. As to whether keg nitro was inspired by beer engines, absolutely no idea... all I know is British keg bitters were utter shite... thankfully, craft breweries have proved that beer served by this method can be decent.
Good Job on the irish red ale!!!!!!!!!! Is the recipe you used available ?????
A link is in the description
You need a Sparkler on the end of the beer engine
Also very rare to find a beer engine in Ireland (apart from my shed)
Never would have guessed that. Always thought of Irish and British beers being similar but sharing a slightly different history. Are red ales meant to be served on draft, or has the real ale movement not brought them back in Ireland yet?
@@mitchellfite879 the only Red Ale you will get here in non craft pubs is Smithwicks. It's served on draft. I only know of two or craft pubs in dublin with a beer engine.
Do you just do a primary fermentation and then to the keg?
Yes and Yes.
Secondary fermentation does next to nothing. If you want to clear there's better methods.
Thanks for the info. I was just curious because I haven’t noticed much sludge on the bottom of my bucket after the secondary.
@@smokinjoe1840 same here, one fermenter, but I use a 7gal SSBrewtech Brewmaster conical so my beer transfers out above all sediment/trub. I also throw a whirlfloc tab in 10mins before the end of the boil for a 5.5gal finished batch. Batches have decent clarity.
Why’s the handle on the beer engine upside down?
fuckin yeast gogurt!
Beer engine aka cask pump
You should have had Irish Potatoes with that. #STAYSAFE
You can't produce the Shamrock in the foam with that device...but love it anyway.
I can't even figure out how to do that with the nitro tap
Kilkenny, I would say, is the typical Irish Red ale here in the Republic of Ireland boys.... I love, how smashed you are in this.... come home to Ireland boys... come, come, you belong with us
or Smithwicks too
I was watching all the videos and I was wondering what happened to Rachel?
These are common in the UK. I've never seen one in Ireland. So this is conflicting viewing for me 😂
Forget the CO2, you should allow oxygen in if you want it to style. Yes, you'll have to drink it quickly but i'm sure that won't be a problem for you guys
Do you send the equipent out of US?
Unfortunately, we don't.
@@ClawhammerSupply Plan to? Homebrew is big over here, too. I would buy it for my next upgrade. Hola from London.
Arh man you killed the poor with a sparkler on the end .the sparkler give it its lightly carbed with a creamy head .nxt time try it with the sparkler
Brilliant guys, spuds and all! 😁 Here's a video of the master Paddy Moloney on the wild Uilleann (elbow) pipes.
Wild and free like a true Irish Red; a lot different to the more ceremonial bagpipes.
ruclips.net/video/NBD4PxhGMdE/видео.html
Don't let the heads on these guys throw you; they're mad for the craic and musical magicians to boot.
i think those are zero's, not o's
If you use nitrogen, isn't it nitronation nor carbonation.
*handpull
Парни обязательно нужны Русские субтитры!
"irish" red is an american beer, but now it's a style. either way it has alcohol and tastes good
You guys are great. Honest. But........Rachel? We miss you rachel 😢. That aside awsome video from a scottish bagpipe player who also homebrews lol. Keep up the great vids
Does dude have painted finger nails? Revoke his man card NOW!
1st here and I don’t know what I’m watching 😂
will i get fired here, if i insult you? :D ;) well................ do you declare anything wich contains alkohol a beer? If so, why is fermented grape juice called wine? the " reinheitsgebot" will tell you what brew is worth it to be called a beer! ;)
Why does ROSS THE BOSS have black nails?
Not sure. Ross is a mystical man and some mysteries are better left unsolved...
If your going to make a video the least you can do is paint your nails before filming. At first I thought you had dirt under your fingernails. Gross! At second glance I realized you nail polish was chipped. The little things matter. I’m sure Emmet wouldn’t mind shelling out 40 buck for a petite and manie for yea. Everyone loves a good looking cohost.🥁
Lol... Next time Ross shows up like that we're sending him straight to the nail salon.
@@ClawhammerSupply 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽Thank you. Great video by the way!
I find the fact you are wearing masks just for this video is superbly disappointing....thumbs down
The masks...
....are mandated by our state. And are for the protection of the crew, of which one has a high risk respiratory issue.
@@ClawhammerSupply Masks worsen respiratory issues. That's like saying "we're wearing wet socks because we have a rash on our feet".
@@fivefingerfullprice3403 every country in the world that previosuly had a culture of wearing masks (Singapore, South Korea, Vietnam) have all had incredibly low death rates f Covid.... so shut up
