    Congratulations! Another one off the bucket list. BTW: Were you in training when you spent so much time walking along the river / canal banks in East Anglia?

    • @MinimalList
      @MinimalList  3 года назад +7

      I did lots of 10-17 mile walks and tried to keep up a 20 minute pace. The problem was that we spent the summer in The Fens so there were no hills for me to climb.

  • @18robsmith
    @18robsmith 3 года назад +30

    Very wise not to leave Lorna "in the dust". I think your way of stopping and letting her walk on at her pace then catching her up is pretty sensible.
    Well done to the two of you on completing the walk.

    While I don’t enjoy being cold and wet, I do love the moodiness of the mountains on a rainy day. So lovely. I admire you fortitude and positive attitude. You chose the higher road (pun intended) to keep an eye on Lorna. She has a great friend. Congratulations to you both.

    It's been very interesting. I'm sure both of you had some realizations along the way about pacing, what to carry, what to eat, and how much of a daily trek to do. If you do another someday you'll be better prepared. Well done!

    Congratulations Jo & Lorna. My husband Denis and I have watched all your videos on all your channels. Even though we are retired now and in our mid to late '60's, we too love long distance walking. Since 2005, we have travelled to the UK in the spring/summer/autumn timeframes to walk. The rules freedom to roam rules are so conducive to walking; we don't have the same freedoms here in Australia. We have walked 10 of the national trails; in 2005, we did the Coast to Coast, then in 2007 we did four long distance paths, stringing them together starting at Chepstowe on the Offas Dyke, walking up to Prestatyn, then from Ulverstone to Carlisle on the Cumbrian Way, up to the West Highland Way and on to Inverness on the Great Glen. in following years, we completed the Dales Way, Hardrians Wall, the Cotswold Way, the Pennine Way and our last was the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. Once all the covid restrictions have eased and we feel comfortable flhing and travelling safely again, we are considering the South West Coast Path - all 1,000 kms. You are so lucky and we envy you the freedoms you have to walk. We take every step with you and George along the towpaths and can't wait to hear all your plans for the future. Much love to you both, from Donna & Denis in Victoria, Australia.

    Just watched the 6-part series, it was excellent! It's rare for thru-hike vloggers to get a good narrative flow going, but being able to draw from your 4 years experience as the vlogger aboard your narrowboat clearly helped here. You not only crafted your experience into a compelling story for casual viewers, you managed to make it truly useful for those planning to do the WHW themselves. I'm hoping you & Lorna can get together & discuss on camera what you might do differently next time, whether you were satisfied with your gear, footwear choices, section stopovers, etc. - as long as you don't have to edit it. (Your plate is already too full!) Now I'm off to binge watch Lorna's version, thank you!

  • @MartinJames389

    WELL DONE on reaching Fort William, wet but satisfied, I hope
    The ruined houses you passed are almost certainly the result of the barbarity of the Clearances between about 270 to 150 years ago. There are thousands of such ruins all over the Highlands. They all had the roos ripped off and many were burned as soon as the people were evicted. It always annoys me when people refer to the Highlands as "wilderness". Much of it seems like that now, but it was an inhabited landscape until relatively modern times.
    Glad you had decent weather in Fort William before you left and saw Ben Nevis free of cloud. THANKS for this great series of vids.

    Hi Jo. I’m very happy for you both that you made it. I tried to explain a few vlogs before about the West Coast weather. How lucky were you? Only the on last day did you experience the typical weather. We lived there for years and couldn’t even have a cat flap because the rain blew in! You are a very kind lady, looking after Lorna with great sympathy and I’m sure she is very thankful. Next walks? Pennie Way, Coast to Coast,, South Downs for warmer weather!. Treat yourself to Wainwright’s books, full of ideas right up your street. Well done and Michael must be very proud of you.

Am still a bit less than a year behind in watching your canal adventures but slowly catching up one a night. I am eager to get to your Fens adventures as friends live there who we stay with on our trips across from Aus so it’s an area we know. It is snowing this afternoon in Chicago as I'm watching this last video of the series. Thanks to you and Lorna for easing me through the end of fall with your Scottish adventure.

    So at last you got the full walking Scottish immersion, you can now hold your head up high and say I walked the Scottish highland. Congratulation to you and Lorna. Glade you found a way to walk with Lorna that did not brake a simple rule of walking with other's (say together)

      Yeah, there was no way I was going to leave her out on the trail. Especially in that weather.

    Well done you two , pity you had to spilt up most of the way . Lorna had a hard trek but pushed on so all credit to her . I thought you would have trouble Jo but you did well and you both deserve a medal 🥇
