... Unless you're Czech, Slovak, Polish or German and you've actually learned about this at school (we covered this twice at elementary school and twice at high school), so some of us actually knew how it's going to end who is going to die or survive.
I don't know why you were bored in the first 30 minutes. I thought it was good. Imho, a film doesn't have to have action scenes all the way through to be dramatic.
I love how realistic this drama was. A good portion of action to please the fans of action films, yet still realistic, no nonsense and it follows the history of the real events very closely. I know many people (Czechs) who were quite skeptical when they heard that this topic was picked for a big British co-production and would be make for international audience, because they feared that the historical facts would be mess up for the benefit of making a big action film (and that would make it unbearable to watch for 90% of the Czech viewers), but luckily none of that turned out to be true. Unlike some war films for international audience which are packed with action scenes and half of those are pointless, don't even serve the story, and are just there to show off the heroism and physical ability of the characters) this is a war drama with drama being evenly spread between big fighting seqences, preparation for the operation and spying in an occupied land. Well done. I'd give it 85%.

I t took me a while to go se this movie, because I did not know what to expect of it, you are correct this story was introduced to us during our "school lives" I am from Prague and stood of that church window , felt the bullet holes and said a prayer for all of the people affected by this ... Lidice, Lezaky and more. I would say they took some liberties but overall they did covered it well, I am glad I did go.

@@Martina260 taking liberties in a movie is fine because it has to be structured well and flow in a movie’s pace. The liberties they took were all great and added more life to the story of people who fought there. Whatever liberties you think they did, it wasn’t negative in the slightest and served the story well.
      It’s a fantastic movie!

I watched Anthropoid a second time, and this time with a friend. I agreed with you about them not developing the love interest in the movie and it made the ending a bit corny. However, my friend saw that a bit differently, she said that when they were reaching out to one another at the end, it had more to do with the hope that Czechoslovakia would once again find love and live for another day. With that in mind, I have to say it came together for me. But yes, this is one of my favorite movies of 2016. Keep up the good work.

Just saw Anthropoid, rented it from the library, and it was awesome. I love Cillian Murphy, and he's really excellent in this movie. As a Czech I was little afraid of Anthropoid, for I know many examples of crap movies when someone from one country makes film about history of other country. But despite some historic buffs I very liked it. And I also recommend czechoslovak movie Atentát (Assassiantion) from 1964, directed by Jiri Sequens. It is still best artistic rendition of this story.

Hi, I think it dependes on the country and your history teacher if you know or not know about the assassination and how it ended up. Heydrich was very important for Hitler. Heydrich was THE ONE who came up with an idea to "solve the Jewish question" (systematic genocide). His aasassination was huge step against Hitler. Of course in czech republic and in slovakia (we are seperated since 1993) is this very important story as much as Munich Agreement, which was also very importatn because Britain, France and Italy basically give Hitler resources to start a war.

I have not seen the movie yet. I hope you made sure Englishmen. Since this event shook my country. And since I was in church and at the intersection where the main heroes Gabčík and Kubiš fought and died for me is very valuable film. Indeed, the filmmakers decided to film the true story of our heroes of the Second World War. I am a person who knows about this event. But it should be remembered the young people in my country they are the true heroes Spiderman and Wolverine. If someone will not like the movie understand. But a group of Czechoslovak paratroopers against Hitler's men and the German army. Thank you all.

Our youth have of what makes it fun. Painting inherits the memorial in Lidice. I was in the crypt where all the paratroopers had to commit suicide. They fired at them from a machine gun, they are flushed out like rats. Gas flown there. Karel Čurda their member is betrayed and is therefore tracked down by the Gestapo. Pors hope that this people will seem ridiculous and it did not spoil director. When I saw Saving Private Ryan, so I laughed it is an exaggeration. Then I went to Omaha Beach. There, I realized that I behaved like a fool. A man must experience this feeling so he crawled deep under the skin. In the Czech Republic, movie yet. But they had to give more English and American actors. That our new generation of actors that does not experience so fully.

Thank you for your review, however you are not in the frame of mind of what is was like for the Czechoslovakian people during that time. You have this view regarding an expedited love plot. You have to remember this is actually how it was. People did not have 10 years to fall in love. You are of a much newer generation. I encourage you to step outside of your way of thinking in current standards and understand history and the mentality for the respective time period. Honestly, you sound naive and uneducated in regards to the historic content of the film.

    • @KMReviews

Doenst matter if it’s real or not. Still has to make sense for the movie. Movies can be accurate and be boring or be accurate and be entertaining, etc. I’m not reviewing the accuracy. I’m reviewing the movies entertainment value. That was an element in the movie that wasn’t done well in my opinion. Movies are subjective. If it really happened that quickly back then it’s the movies job to convey that for everyone in a believable and entertaining way. For me they didn’t do that. Still love the movie, but that’s just one aspect.

The same crap like Operation Daybreak. If you wish to watch historically the most accurate movie about Heydrich's assassination, search for Atentát (Assassination, J. Sequens, 1964). There are couple of inacuracies too, but it still follows true historical events at the maximum.

I watched it last night. People of my generation all know about what happened here so no surprises. I thought it was boring to begin with and then became ridiculous at the end. Look up the facts on wikiparedia. Seven agents were dropped.3 went to Prague and 4 went on another mission. The assassination was accurate except for leaving out the fact that Heidrich was assisted by a Czech woman passerby and an offduty policeman. He died of complications over a week later. They were betrayed by one of the parachuted agents for the money. The church was surrounded by 750 germans with heavy weapons. 5 Germans were wounded in the 6 hours of the siege.Grenades have a large killing zone kicking them a few feet will not save you.Heavy machine guns are not blocked by wooden railingsThe worst part of the film was the way the german troops were depicted like james bond villains piling up in heaps . Very reminiscent of " Where Eagles Dare".Overall very disappointing.

That is what I call the "artistic liberties"... Agree with you there, and also one of the guys, Gabcik? Was going to marry his lady friend? Movie I saw still in Prague, showed very well trained soldiers, focusing on the mission, but this one did got the fact somewhat correct, mom was killed, Curda betrayed his team , and as we say back home... "one can buy a home for some money."...sad...glad it was shown here to help people understand and show history from a very small country , and the extend of that action ...
