  • This is a longer video to help English learners understand when they should use present perfect tense and when they should use past simple tense.
    First, I discuss some basic rules/guidelines for present perfect and past simple, and then I guide you through a worksheet that I used to use in the classroom with my students.

    Thank your for the best explaination. The key moment in choosing tense is the correspondence between two periods of time. Other teachers and textbooks never told me about this.

    I was surprised that still is used in negative sentences. Question: should we replace it with continued in positive sentence? EX: She continues living in dormitory. I hope she rents an apartment soon.

    • @TeacherMikeEnglish

      No. Using "continues" there sounds strange.

    Last question: I was watching this movie many times? Why we can’t use past continuous form?

    • @TeacherMikeEnglish
      @TeacherMikeEnglish  Год назад +1

      It generally doesn't make sense to say "I was ___ing many times."
      We use past continuous to say that one habit or action was continuing non-stop/repeatedly, so adding "many times" is strange.
