The color saturation (and many other parameters) are adjustable with the "mSetup.exe" program (same one as used with the Mobius). Wide FOV = Fish Eye. You're comparing a 1080P to 4K (GoPro) with a 720P (808). Set the GoPro to 720P and see how close they are in FOV. GoPro has a 94 deg. lens IIRC .. not sure on the 808. Hard to compare "apples to oranges" ...
Oh man! Thank you for doing this review. I was looking for a cam that can be mounted on my cousin's RC plane that is not heavy, is relatively streamlined, and not overly expensive. I saw this cam on sale over in Cambridge and I was curious about it. Now that I have seen the quality, I am thinking of getting two, and use the second when I go kite flying. It took me a few seconds to realize where you were... I worked in one of the buildings on the other side of the bay
Possibly. Microcenter over on Memorial Dr can be a magical tech wonderland... You never know what you'll find there! I saw these (dunno which model) on the shelf when I was last there helping my friend purchase her new PC and I noticed them while checking the Midland XTC cams.
You can adjust the 808 parameters with a free program called Nr 16 setup. It is a configuration utility for the 808 and you can set,Exposure,White Balance, Saturation,Contrast, and 7 color options amongst just a few of the sets ups you can pre-program. You dont need an 808 to run the prog. to view what it can do. Just download it and check it out. One piece of advice is make sure you buy the 808#16 from one of the recommended sellers on eBay as there are a few cheap copy's and they are not worth a S*** Cant beat it. A lot of Bang for your buck.
Tried the new 808 #16 v2 with the 180 degree "D lens" yet? A few small steps closer to the GoPro experience thanks to the wider FOV and the video out option for FPV.
At 1:18 the keychain looked better than the gopro to me. I think close up, the keychain does really well. Thank you for the video. I have the keychain now and will be purchasing the gopro soon.
Cool glad it helped... FYI as far as i know these are only on sale through ebay. Check the RC group link in the description. If you see something similar on sale in cambrdige its most likely a different model.
Ha, yeah this is a destroyed hawk sky with the salvaged wing strapped to a stick... the bixler is in the USA warehouse too (but it may be back ordered). Never tried the bixler but it looks like a good one.
I REALLY appreciate you doing this video- I use GoPros but just ordered this camera so I can mount it on the back of a live falcon in flight- Thanks- good work!
Thanks.... as it turns out, i lost my camera last week when my plane crashed and literally burned in the ocean :( on the upside it was a good excuse to get an 808#16 V2 which is on the way... cool thing is they now have included lens to increase the FOV and, as you said, i can't wait to try FPV
I think its cause it has a narrower, or more zoomed in field of view.... kinda like how if you hold a camera it "appears" more shaky when you zoom in even though your hand is exactly the same as when your zoomed out
Is there a particular plane that inexpensive that you'd recommend. I'm looking for an RTF kit that includes everything that I need to get off of the ground. Thanks! I haven't had any luck finding anything on Hobbyking US warehouse.
Man that is one flexible FPV rig you have there, you most definitely have some flights in on the old girl. Nice comparison. I have the 808 # 16 and hey you must check out the new Mobius 1080p *30fps 720p * 60fps from the makers of the 808. Techmoan did a nice review but did no comparison. The Mobius has mounting gear package very similar to the Gopro but it is not waterproof and of course, neither is the 808.
aloha... Don't know too much about the #20, from what I can tell it's very similar to the #16. I do think an improved 1080 video camera version of the #16 as well as a new #26 should be coming soon.
My current problem is weight and size. I'm using my application for vertical rockets. If there is a way to hack the FPV car key, that would be amazing.
Hmm... 1) the bixler (but its backordered or lots of shipping) I still think this may the best bet tho for a RTF kit 2) AXN Floater (hobbyking too, but doesn't come as rtf kit i don't think, you'd need to buy a transmitter) 3) Dynam hawk sky (nitroplanes, but two of my friends got it, both with defective transmitters and nitroplanes has yet to get back to them months later) 4) GWS Slow stick (but these dont come as RTF kits but if you have a buddy that knows stuff this is a great slow plane)
For a person who is going cheap the key chain is amazing. Like me i would get the key chain. But i use a fpv system that records and sends live video!!! its very cool. And i cant wait to see more of your reviews!!! :)
Quality of video and resolution are two very different things, DUH... The gopro is clearer even at 720, it has a bigger lens, better processing, and yes much more expensive and bigger. Just trying to throw out a comparison for RC flyers so they can see the pros and cons of each.
xninjagurl The wide angle lens on the gopro is going to be more forgiving if you have a shaky platform. The 808 is using a telephoto lens in comparison to the gopro, looking at an image through a telephoto lens is going to look more shaky than using a wide angle lens.
oh cool, yeah that place by trader joes... yeah, probly not the #16 model, check out the chucklohr website or the rcgroups forums... seems that #16 has the best pic quality and only through ebay
I just posted a video response.. My 80 cam has gone WELL over the speed of sound, crashed form 10,000 feet, and still keeps taking decent video.. I paid $11.00 shipped for mine.. Id rather have the 808 than the go pro ANY day! Lets see you tape a go pro to the side of a rocket ?? you cant you have to build it in. the keychan cam.. a little electrical tape and BAM... you are up and recording!
If you want one camera to do FPV with live recording at the sametime gopro works great, you may have to do an update and buy or hack a cable for the video out, youtube search "how to use a gopro for fpv" by RCTESTFLIGHT , they have a good vid on this
why dont you compare the #3 808 to the go pro or compare #3 #16... why not BECAUSE THERE NOT THE SAME QUALITY it would have maybe been fair if you set the go pro to 720p also
Quincy! I know that park. PM me on RCG, im always looking for good people to fly with. I live in Plymouth & fly with the Wingbusters MAC in Halifax. Cheers, Brian
i think I received #22 and the video is just terrible. wasn't expecting perfect video but, this one went in the opposite direction almost far at the bottom of the scale.
Well a 40 dollar dinky camera trying to match wits with a $300 one over 10x it's size is bound to let down at least a few consumers out there on a point of two, otherwise I'm sure Go-Pro would fold in nothing flat! Sheeze critics, give the lil squirt a Go-pro cam size break!

Yeah, I've been eyeing the mobius as well as the new #26, both look pretty awesome

The #20 is on Amazon you thinking of upgrading to it?
Thanks for the video.
Aloha
Outstanding!!! Thank you for taking your time to post this...Very informative!
Yeah, i've seen lots of post and questions about that exact problem... I've yet to see anything about doing that successfully
I REALLY appreciate you doing this video- I use GoPros but just ordered this camera so I can mount it on the back of a live falcon in flight- Thanks- good work!
Is that Quincy? Great comparison.
I've updated the firmware, i also just got my wide angle lens too... videos coming with how these all turn out!
Thanks.... as it turns out, i lost my camera last week when my plane crashed and literally burned in the ocean :(

@sentimentaloldme cool thanks... i too am suprised with the video quality of this thing
Haha, I randomly stumbled upon this and you are out of Boston. I used to live right by that park.
Is there a particular plane that inexpensive that you'd recommend. I'm looking for an RTF kit that includes everything that I need to get off of the ground. Thanks! I haven't had any luck finding anything on Hobbyking US warehouse.
If you're looking for a cheap HD small camera, I recommend the key chain.

What FPV system do you use? I am looking to do something similar with a live video + recording
Good info and good video. Not much left of that poor HawkSky mind, Did you hack it up for FPV or have you just crashed it a lot ? :-)
I'm in Boston, it took 2 weeks from when i bought it.
yeh, gopro on setting R3 (720 # 60fps)... just put up new FOV comparisons with updated firmware and wide angle lens
the keychain camera has a 120degree lens available, comparable to the go-pro
What class of the card was this recorded? Is class 4 card good enough?
#26 wow I think I will Wait a bit.
Thank you so much for replying.
Aloha
what program did you use to render this?
Quality of video and resolution are two very different things, DUH... The gopro is clearer even at 720, it has a bigger lens, better processing, and yes much more expensive and bigger. Just trying to throw out a comparison for RC flyers so they can see the pros and cons of each.
There is an internal lipo... it charges via a micro usb cable
How fast did your camera get shipped to you? I want to put one on my champ but do I really have to wait 3 weeks like ebay says?
Ha, yes agreeed... for the size and the price you def can't go wrong with this
How were they mounted? Why is the 808 video shakier even though they are recording the same thing?
xninjagurl The wide angle lens on the gopro is going to be more forgiving if you have a shaky platform. The 808 is using a telephoto lens in comparison to the gopro, looking at an image through a telephoto lens is going to look more shaky than using a wide angle lens.
Does it do 60fps? I thought 30 is the highest
oh cool, yeah that place by trader joes... yeah, probly not the #16 model, check out the chucklohr website or the rcgroups forums... seems that #16 has the best pic quality and only through ebay
@TurboCatOnline thanks!

It's still a descent picture for the cost of the cam you know

woa! now that is a video I'd love to see!
yeh, class 4 acutally works best, the higher classes sometimes screw up
@sentimentaloldme Thanks! I'll have to try that.
I just bought a cop cam for $11.00 will say how it does. In 2012 this was most likely state of the art cams.
Quincy! I know that park. PM me on RCG, im always looking for good people to fly with. I live in Plymouth & fly with the Wingbusters MAC in Halifax.
Cheers,
Brian
the keychain is excellent for use so or on a kite .why pay a lot of money ?
how can you compare a 1080p 250$ camera against a 40$ 720p keychain....
the new keychain camera comes with a wide angle lens ("D")
thanks
think it ist possible das the 60fps are not real 60 fps
Awesome, thanks!
neat plane !
Looks great and proof of what I've been saying for years -- gooPro is just hipster marketed hyped crap
Corel Video Studio :)
Poor video and audio quality, but for its. $6 cost and what use it's meant for (covert usage) the vid, aud, date & time stamp, it's perfect....
haha, yeah out of mercy the plane is no longer with us
i think I received #22 and the video is just terrible. wasn't expecting perfect video but, this one went in the opposite direction almost far at the bottom of the scale.
nice
Your video is bad. It doesnt show the 808 #16 with the 120degree lens. Why did you not do this?
It's all about relativity and TRADEOFFS!!! Isn't it?
ummm, i just did
Battlefield suav
Your welcom lol
crashes... many many crashes
