John Browning either invented certain types of firearms or refined them to a much higher level of efficiency, a man whose genius knew no boundaries except the limitations of the materials of his time!
JMB Is one of a handful of American designers who truly changed the way the world thought and did things!

I was LUCKY and FORTUNATE to find a very early 1885 Winchester 4 digit serial number (5574) I believe at Cabela's in SC next to Carowinds. It was in ruff condition but without really knowing ANYTHING about the rifle I bought it for $200 as is.(non functional). The action seemed Ok but it wouldn't stay cocked and the barrel was cut short (missing about 5"-6") and wasn't squared off at the muzzle. I took it home and did some research and found it was 2nd year production. It was a low wall 22short with MILLED RECEIVER which is rare. I ordered parts to get it to function correctly and got another early similar heavy octagon barrel that had been relined to 22lr. I got it working, I spent about $250 in parts so I had $450 in it I sold it at a NCGCA show for $675 and the buyer was EXCITED to get it. It was a interesting project I earlier bought a broken P08 and was able to fix it and sold but MAD AT MYSELF FOR SELLING IT BECAUSE I REALLY LOVE THE P08, I KINDA LIKE PISTOLS MORE THAN RIFLES. I think they're more personal and easier to store.😯😁👍 I appreciate your video even though I while doing research on the 1885 I knew most of that but you did expand on a few facts that I didn't know. 😯😉😁👍

Great video! I especially appreciated seeing the patent model. I came across an original recently with a price tag of $15,000.00. You got my 👍 and sub.

Good stuff. What about production starting back up……in Japan?
What time period did that run?
I handled one of those back in the 80’s and I must admit it was beautifully made.

According to Winchester, production in Japan began in the early 1990s.

I have a single-digit SN, with pistol grip, recently made in Japan in 6.5 Creed.

All the work was done on an anvil and refined with files???
